My main concern is music updates. Why is the Midi for my Doom so 8-bit when youtube videos show totally rocking midis? How do I change this?
ALL CREATURE WILL DIE AND ALL THE THINGS WILL BE BROKEN. THAT'S THE LAW OF SAMURAI.There are quite a few music mods out there...
Here's one, and Doomworld has more. Not sure how you replace the existing midis, though.
Was Jack Mackerel. | i rite gudWould make more sense to go with the Play Station soundtrack, imo.
Except [condescending response follows]. Because [sarcasm here]. You do understand [snark], right? POTHOLE TO SARCASM MODEI will bump this thread for great justice!
(also, I've found a few interesting things about TCT's doom hack... specifically, Yukari does NOT replace the head. Technically she's the object that fired the enemy spawners in Doom 2 itself. the head's replacement is an 8 ball. Killing either one has the same effect of ending the level.... and it's surprisingly easy for Yukari to kill herself if you set 2 to fight.
Any advice for finding secrets? There aren't a lot of telltale signs that I know of, except for different tile graphics.
ALL CREATURE WILL DIE AND ALL THE THINGS WILL BE BROKEN. THAT'S THE LAW OF SAMURAI.The only advice I have is Try Everything. Seriously some of these secrets are GuideDangIts
Apocalypse: Dirge Of Swans. If you can, find a Computer Map, and check for grey areas.
Still doesn't always help. I do remember one secret where you had to either activate or shoot (I forget which one) the wall on the other side of a room. Oh, and the room was a large ring of acid.
Other secrets may be activated by running over a section of floor, requiring you to run at full speed to get to the door before it closes.
Don't take life too seriously. It's only a temporary situation. And sometimes they just go overboard in areas - IIRC there is on map in episode 4 of Doom that has a staircase. On that staircase, practically every single STEP is a secret! And yes, you have to go up all of the steps to trigger all the secrets.
Good news! DOOM is no longer banned in Germany. And it only took 18 years.
Jonah FalconI don't see how this is good news. It never was completely banned (although there is not really much of a difference). The only thing that the "unbanning" did is that it's allowed to be sold in stores again. Which will surely happen.
Strangely enough, the GBA version wasn't banned though.

Apocalypse: Dirge Of Swans. It seems that Zenimax bought id Software. And on Wikipedia Rage, Prey 2 and Doom 4 are mentioned under "upcoming games" on the Bethesda page.
Wait, wasn't Prey by 3D Realms?

People aren't as awful as the internet makes them out to be.You'd expect a series that involves killing demons to be less controversial. Why, it's practically a Christian game. Sell it as a 2-in-1 pack with Bible Adventures.
Except [condescending response follows]. Because [sarcasm here]. You do understand [snark], right? POTHOLE TO SARCASM MODEReminds me of what Sandy Pertersen said, concerning his Mormonism and Doom.
Actually, the same thing could be said about Wolfenstein. Germany is quite concerned about... nazi-stuff (overly so, actually), so a game where you fight nazis should be accepted with open arms. But instead it's still banned here, due to symbols like the swastika. In fact, it's completely banned, not "just" on the index. The same with the original version of Return to Castle Wolfenstein (while the swastika-less German version is on the index due to the uncensored violence).
I just read that Zenimax themselves requested a re-evaluation.
Not the first time, something was taken off the index either. Some songs of Die Ärzte were taken off, which resulted in a re-release of an old album.

People aren't as awful as the internet makes them out to be.Prey was made by Human Head Studios and 3DRealms, but I guess Bethesda got publishing rights.
"Hipsters: the most dangerous gang in the US." - Pacific MackerelHow about a bump?
What for?
Well... have we talked about the Stronghold mod yet?
Started playin' DOOM a while back, but I honestly forgot about it. Though I think it's somewhere on the XBox Arcade, so I may give that a once over.
I mainly want to play multiplayer, though that's hard to do on Mac's. Ah well.
Doom used to be on XLBA, but apparently it was taken down a year ago. According to this article, it was supposed to be back up "soon", but that must not have happened. Doom II is still available, though.
I tried to take on Thy Flesh Consumed, and gave up at the third level. Holy fuck that's hard.
ALL CREATURE WILL DIE AND ALL THE THINGS WILL BE BROKEN. THAT'S THE LAW OF SAMURAI.Episode 4 is easily the hardest one in Doom.
E1 is not hard at all, mainly because ammo is abundant and you fight the same 5 enemies all throughout (besides the 2 barons at the end), and they all aren't incredibly threatening. E2 is a little difficult at first, as it's easy to run out of ammo early on, and it adds more enemy types. Plus, the end boss (Cyberdemon) is more challenging. E3 amps up the difficulty further, as again, it's easy to run out of ammo in the beginning, and the second level has a lot of enemies in it, a good portion of which aren't the kind to drop ammo.
E4's difficulty seems to stem mainly from an overabundance of enemies, as ammo isn't a problem. That, and having more Cyberdemon encounters.
I found that E4 got progressively easier as it went on. I'm not sure if that was level design, or how I had more ammo and health from the previous levels. Or are you supposed to play every level with a fresh life or be labelled a DOOM noob?
Don't take life too seriously. It's only a temporary situation.I've always thought that starting any level (besides the first one) with just your pistol was a Self-Imposed Challenge, and not how one should normally play Doom. I don't think it's noob-like to carry over your weapons from one level to the next.
Wrong, he was asking about graphical improvement packs like Duke Nukem 3 D was capable of.
