Dreams and Daydreams - would this get too complicated?

{{Yu+Me Dream}} didn't have any characters named Yume, though. It also has a plus in it.

The problem is that I can think of too many names. I was considering just calling her "Dream" or "Wish," but those were... Bleh.

Plus, "Ami," while appropriate for an imaginary friend, is kind of the wrong language.

Also, "Yume-Hime" has a nice sound to it.

Progress Report:

• Working title: See above.
• Current setting: Greensboro, NC. Serial numbers filed off.
• Plotting: Mostly done. I have a good idea of how everything's going to flow. I decided it would be much simpler to just start with A Minor Kidroduction that lasts several chapters then jump ahead a few years instead of trying to hop back and forth through time like a flea.
• Currently trying to find: A name for the goldfish. Attacks for Yume. I'm considering just giving her a sword and being done with it, but that's not very Magical Girl-y.

And finally...

Concept art. This is the kicker. If this was an online novel, I'd probably half fucking done with the final work by now, but I've actually had to teach myself to draw from almost-scratch specifically for this project, and it's kind of hard.

The final designs are less than a third done. But that's still a lot, since I have tens of characters and almost as many locations to design. Thankfully, you don't see most of them in the beginning so I won't have to worry about finishing most of them before I start.

I'll release it in batches once more of it is done.

Also, @Dealan: The most useful "piece of advice" I've gotten from my own dreams is that I should definitely scrap the idea of having the Dream World be a place with a definite layout and consistent designs. I noticed that the settings in my dreams are completely scrambled, with very weird geography and travel times. I'll open a door at my school and end up in Brazil. So I definitely want to incorporate that element of randomness into this.

Edit: Also, anyone can feel free to suggest another name for the title character if you can think of one that fits. I want to keep with the Theme Naming, though. (Each major character in the Dream World is named after a different part of Laurie's psyche. "Fear, Loathing, Anxiety, etc." "Yume" means "dream," for the uninitiated.)

Edit: I'll have to go back re-write large portions of this to get rid of some of the similarities to Sucker Punch. This will take a while, so hold on.

Update: 79 pages of the draft script done. Unlike almost all webcomics, I'm writing the whole thing out beforehand like a real Graphic Novel.

However, it's kind of unpolished.

Not only is there no intro, there are literally no finished scenes (that don't have holes in them) so I can't post excerpts yet.

Once that's fixed, I'll be starting a real thread for everything about this project - complete with the series title right the thread title, so look for that sometime within the next month barring a really awful Schedule Slip.

(It seems I'm pretty much talking to myself at this point in the thread, though.)

This is just one out of over 10 threads I've started for this project in the 14 months I've worked on it, so I don't really consider it "my thread."

Plus, I have all those other threads: Plotbunny shelter, the list of names, etc.

You're definitely not talking to yourself. I have this thread in my watchlist, if that says anything. I just don't have anything useful to say. But yeah, I'm still waiting for this.

Well, that's ok. Look forward to seeing you in a month then, be it on this thread, or the other. I really do look up to you, so I'd love to see some of your actual work.

We finally have a (Really rough first draft of) a synopsis.

Script's almost done.

7 months late, but considering I had to do a ground-up rewrite, that's to be expected.

I'm going to kill this thread soon - since it's a concept/brainstorming thread - and start one for the actual, finished project. Hopefully within the next week or two.

But remember I run on Valve Time, so that might mean in five years.
