..or does he? The typical grammar-averse mumbling in combo with lyrics like "I'm looking like Death Note, looking like Case Closed" and "Anime's swag, flying like Goku" sound pretty legit, but other information is terribly scarce. Judge for yourselves: [1]

I know what you said, sugar, but 'platonic' still entails a world of ideas.

Wow.

this is, Unexpected.

But if this becomes as memetic as Superman, it might mean more people are otaku like than first thought.

Soldier Boy? Who the hell does he think he is? THE HEART

Also, since when were you under the impression Animae and Magma weren't hugely popular? The fans just stopped pretending they weren't fans and started stepping out of the closet. Heart Is an Awesome Power.

Anime and Manga are still rising in popularity. But due to economical stress, its not as notciable.

The fact that even rap artists are admitting their like for it says something, sicne you wouldn't except them to like it (Except Kanye West).

^ Oh I can believe it. Some ghetto kids were once talking on the bus and the one kid mentioned something from Bleach, and the other guy was surprised, but he said that he respected him for watching it. So Yeah.

I hope there isn't a sudden boom in anime popularity just because some rap artists like it. Sure, it means I don't need to explain it to every person I come across anymore, but only stuff like Naruto and Bleach is going to become mainstream for a good while.

If Young Jeezy releases a single that serves as a scathing commentary about the Nanoha/Fate and Nanoha/Yuuno shipping wars, I think I could die a happy man.

I'm pretty sure ODB was never an anime fan, or at least, he never rapped about it.

Also, that's probably fake, the voice doesn't really match up.

The black community has always had strong ties with asian entertainment trends, dating back to the days when one of the only legit roles a black actor could hope to nail was as The Dragon type character in a martial arts film. And it doesn't hurt that many Asian girls have a thing for black men.

I does not know what anime is anymore.

I have also forgotten the meaning to the word "swag".

If Soldier Boy looks like Goku, and he looks like Peter Pan aswell... Does that mean that Goku is Peter Pan, and uh... Vince McMan?

I... I don't want to be part of a fandom associated with someone who writes such horrible rap songs...

And it doesn't hurt that many Asian girls have a thing for black men.

Some do, but I don't think that's an actual demographic trend.

The only actual study on this I've seen is one done on the userbase of the dating site Ok Cupid, which found that Asian women actually did show a conspicuous preference for white men, and all other things being equal, were less likely to respond to black men than men of any other race.

...eventually, we will reach a maximum entropy state where nobody has their own socks or underwear, or knows who to ask to get them back.

Soulja Boy even has a Tales Of Vesperia icon in his Twitter page. I think it's Raven, or maybe it was Raven and then he changed when I wasn't looking. But other than that, it's no big deal, many people have always liked anime, and among those "many" people some of them are famous artists. I think one of Robin William's Evangelion miniatures was used for a scene in... that movie he did where he was a creepy employee in a photo place or something, and there's a Reggetón singer that totally has a song that references Mazinger Z (and Sayaka). Hell, just the other day I was looking for a good bike to buy I saw a totally badass hell's angel's-like chopper with a Mazinger Z drawing in it. It looked like the kind of thing Death would ride in the most Metal apocalypse ever, anime or not. The only "closeted" fans are the ones that are too insecure to admit it.

...and those that live around the annoyingly flamboyant and over-the-top fans that won't shut up about how great anime is, but there are those for all hobbies and nobody likes them anyways.

"And it doesn't hurt that many Asian girls have a thing for black men."

With me, at least, that's true-most of the guys I find attractive are black.

There's plenty of famous anime fans (lady gaga, madonna, kanye, robin williams, hayley williams, lupe fiasco etc) so why are people surprised?

All I can say is this... KILL THAT MOTHER***** SON OF A BITCH!!!

How dare he even watch anime, let alone create a horrible, tuneless rhyme about it. First he had to murder classic songs with god-awful covers (Spin me right round) then he had to have commercial success and thus infect the media with his awful music. Now he wants to infect Otaku?!

Never!! Go back to singing about drugs and prossies you pretentious leech!

Btw you may have noticed I dislike rap music...

^^ Furiko, is that from the LULZ: a corruption of L-O-L albums?

I have also forgotten the meaning to the word "swag".

Swag = "Confidence" (think the PUA definition of it, as nebulous as that is)

Sure, it means I don't need to explain it to every person I come across anymore, but only stuff like Naruto and Bleach is going to become mainstream for a good while.

They -do- branch out into other anime series, you know. Aka people who watch TTGL & whatnot.

Besides, Code Geass is still pretty fuckin popular & there is old school shit likd DBZ for older niggas.

The fans just stopped pretending they weren't fans and started stepping out of the closet. Heart Is An Awesome Power.

There was never any sort of 'closet' in black america, as another poster remarked evil grin

he black community has always had strong ties with asian entertainment trends, dating back to the days when one of the only legit roles a black actor could hope to nail was as The Dragon type character in a martial arts film.

There was an article on this in 'Stuff Black People Like'...and I cannot find the damn article ;_;.

As in the weeabooism towards Oriental cultures...then again the same could be said about european descendants and given it is -hard- to change races you can't tell which is more weeaboo

I still remember Y Ruler of Time's video review of this. This song is complete and utter shit. The Japanese-style beat in the back's kinda nice, but then it gets overtaken by Soulja Boy's mumbling incoherent nonsense. And he's proclaiming so hard that he's a big anime fan, but from this song, I can't see it. He's just listing anime that's either mainstream (e.g. Death Note) or easy to find on TV (e.g. Case Closed), without saying anything that shows he's done anything but found a list of names on Google or something like that. The only actual depth into any anime he uses is referencing Pikachu and several characters from Dragon Ball Z. And as one TGWTG comment stated, "everyone and their grandma knows who they are".

This doesn't kill any respect I have for rap or any love I have for anime. I just wanna shoot Soulja Boy off his high horse. The trope One Of Us shows that being a celebrity nerd ain't exactly rare.
