I don't think historians actually use the term "dark ages" any more. But I mean, look at this stuff

Okay, I'm frakking squeeing right now. Seriously.

Valve must love me or something:

  • First they give me Portal for free
  • Then they announced Portal 2 for the PS 3
  • THEN they said it'd be free on Mac if you got the PS 3 version
  • AND THEN they put it on sale for $40 just when I got my graduation money
  • AND FINALLY, THEY GIVE ME FREE TF 2.

That was the best use of $40 ever. Heck, I may need to buy L 4 D for the Mac just because I love them so much now.

Speaking of air intake:

I watched a video of Need For Speed II: SE today. Specifically, a video of the Ferrari F50 on the Northern Country track. I noticed that the sound effect for the Ferrari's engine noise/exhaust note has two "parts" to it: One is the scream of its V-12 engine and the other is a noise much like blowing wind, as if the F50 sucked in a lot of air.

Mind you, such a noise would probably be better suited to the Bugatti Veyron Super Sports, which sucks in a massive amount of air at top speed.

I don't know why, but it seems not a single work I have helped create has featured an author avatar of mine as a lead/secondary character.

Of course, I'll be getting rid of that once I go from Stuck to Brad and The Rebels, I'm moving away from that.

Also, I think I might make all of my stories "episodes" like Stuck is divided up into. Perhaps I could just make my next two books novelettes/novellas and release them together.

But first, I have to get the three I'm writing now done.

I used to draw comics when I was 12 that had myself as a character. It bugged me, because all the other characters were made up, but I didn't grasp the idea of an Author Avatar. I thought if I wanted a character to represent me, it was "dishonest" to not have them have the same name/appearance/etc. as me.

There's a disconnect in the logic that film critics and afficianados are snobs due to the breadth of films they watch. Snobbery implies a sort of exclusion, whereas in my experience it's been non-film lovers who make arbitrary cut-offs. They won't watch a movie if it's black-and-white, if it's in another language, if it's for chicks...

I think I'm getting better though. Yeah, both Tres are young male black nerds with mohawks, but one is a giant jerk that goes good eventually and the other is a slightly-cuckoolanderish dude with a tendency to force himself into sticky situations.

I, meanwhile, am a boring young male black nerd with a mohawk, but I've got socialization problems and weird interests.

"But it's ttly s-f because it's got spaceships and shit! So what if the Force is basically magic?" Apparently, it can't be "fantasy" if it has Space Opera trappings, because fantasy is "medieval crap," or some such nonsense.

That's it. I will be attempting to compile the magitek Raygun Gothic setting concept that's been lurking at the back of my mind—mostly just for shits and giggles, but partly because it would make people like that blow a fuse.

Well, unless my husband wants the concept. Because that way, I know I'll still be able to play with it if I so choose.

Wasn't Star Wars described as being a Fairy Tale in Space?

Star Wars is a fantasy movie with space opera trappings. It doesn't make the movie any less amazing.

Fun fact, Doctor Who is no harder science fiction than Futurama.

I'm starting to think that I like way too much soft science fiction. I find it weird as I think that Hard is actually way much more my alley...
