Aniplex of America licenses Sword Art Online, Blast of Tempest, and Magi.

Okay, I figured that SAO and Magi would be theirs, but I didn't see Tempest coming.

Side note: I can't believe the Funi-noitaminA ad has what's her name from Robotics Notes in a maid outfit, glasses, and cat ears.

Going back to Aniplex's licenses, I wonder how they're going to handle Magi. From what I recall, it's going to be four cour. That's going to be one expensive release that they're going to screw us over with.

Ouch, about 52 eps? Makes sense, but still...this would be a good time to follow the leaders, so to speak (12 ep dual language boxset for around $50). But of course they'll never do that.

It's still Ongoing, I think.

HELLOWEEN! BLACK SABBATH!

I still think people are overestimating how powerful they are as a verse.

They definitely are more powerful then Dragon Ball, though.

Not to mention thye are a part of the Duo that references heavy metal in their attack names and character names, like Jojos Bizarre Adventure.

I just realized something: We have almost no new threads related to manga. Almost everyone just talks about anime.

I understand that this is because anime titles are easier to coordinate conversations about; They have set times and durations. This means that everyone is watching them at the same time and there is a lot to talk about at once. It is still a little sad that only about 20 out of the top 100 titles (based on one site with an easy-to-look-at list) have had even semi-successful threads based solely on their manga. (to be clear: that number includes the ones that had threads but haven't been posted in for ages and the ones I recognize.)

Others have developed threads because they got an anime at some point, but I tried not to count them.

I don't think we should have threads for all of them (there are a number of... [[((Understatement}} eichi]] titles in that top 100), but I have to wonder how many people are reading the different manga.

I don't mind discussing ecchi titles that are marketed as such. I do mind people inserting fanservice in stories where a camera with a pornographic mindset is an obnoxious distraction.

I've been reading the Takao Saito back catalog on Jmanga.com for the last few months...and only this week made the connection that he's the guy who does Golgo Thirteen. It's interesting, for example, to see him on the children's superhero series Barom One.

Yes, it was turned into a tokusatsu series in 1972 and an anime remake in 2002.

Notably, it did Fusion Dance as the method of transformation before Firestorm did, which had the side advantage of making the hero's secret identity much harder to guess.

NYCC is just about over, but plenty of licenses all around, mostly on the manga side. However, Aniplex licensed Sword Art Online, Zetsuen No Tempest (Blast of Tempest), and Magi Labyrinth Of Magic; NISA got Denpa Onna To Seishun Otoko (Ground Control to Psychoelectric Girl); and Funi announced Wolf Children Ame And Yuki and dubbing rights for Toriko (along with the announcement of the leads — Ian Sinclair as Toriko and Josh Grelle as Komatsu).

The manga announcements:

Viz got Tiger And Bunny (as well as the yonkoma), Sunny, Monsuno, Ugly Doll Comics, and physical releases of Ruroni Kenshin: Restoration and Barrage.

Yen Press is bringing Puella Magi Oriko Magica, Puella Magi Kazumi Magica, K-ON! highschool, K-ON! college and Are You Alice?. They're also digitally co-publishing Square Enix's entire digital catalogue, expanding it to worldwide.

Kodansha licensed Sankarea (which will be receiving the subtitle "Undying Love" for its English release), as well as No. 6, Vinland Saga and Tokyo Mew Mew a la Mode. Fairy Tail will be releasing once per month from now on, too.

To be honest, I was amused at the revelation Monsuno had a manga adaptation (Animesque First?). That'll certainly be something for the cast to sign.

NISA getting Denpa Onna To Seishun Otoko is awesome. The artbook for that is going to be lovely. (For the record, it will be released in January 2013 on Blu-ray + DVD.

So I've finally got around to setting up the wi-fi connection for my PS 3 at my college. I was just about to sign up for Neon Alley... until it turned out that I need to give my credit card number... Since I only use prepaid cards to add cash onto my iTunes and PSN accounts, you can see my problem. Does anyone know a way around this?

Well, that was interesting...

Just Archive Binge-d the 30 chapters of Akame Ga Kiru. A LOT more blood than I initially expected. My only real complaint up till now is that the flash-backs happen a little to easily and quickly. Not to mention everyone gets one so that you can understand how they got so crazy or how Anti-Hero/Villain they are before they fight/are killed. (Well, every recurring character. The assassination targets and civilians just die.) The only person I can think of who we have seen more than twice and hasn't had one yet is the Complete Monster that is the reason for most of the suffering (I DARE anyone to refute the claim that he is a Complete Monster).

Then again, that is SIGNIFICANTLY better than Bleach's incredibly long flash-backs.

The series does give you traditional-and-good Audience Surrogates to see every standpoint/personality quirk (Also see: the Anti- status of every character). And as the series relies on those personalities and how the different characters act, this is a good thing.

I came for the classic Shonen plot but stayed for characters and Anyone Can Die brutality/fights.

Hmmm... Is it any good? Thirty chapters sounds like I could binge it fairly quickly, something which is a godsend when I often forgot or don't feel like continuing long or ongoing series and promptly forget to finish them. That, and I have a love for Foe Yay and Dating Catwoman that borderlines on the fetishistic [lol]

I have a bit of rant regarding wicking. I have to say I'm anal as wicking is concerned, and perfers to see the wicks from a work article at least somehow proximate to the sum of tropes in work, YMMV, Trivia, and character pages.

It turns out many tropers (at least anime tropers) just add on lots of tropes on the work's (sub)pages, but don't (usually) add the same to the trope page.

Let's say, for Winter 2012 Anime: New seasons of old franchises (Prince Of Tennis, The Monogataris, and Zero No Tsukaima) have wick count in the hundreds. (Actually Bakemonogatari's 284 was already a bit few IMO) First-season shows, however, seldom have three-digit wick counts regardless of work page length— the most glaring is Another; 54 wicks for a work with a complete set of subpages, and more than 200 lines each for work and character pages.

The only first-season shows with a three-digit wick count are, in alphabetical order, Daily Lives Of High School Boys (159, which I directly involved), High School DXD (165), and Smile Pretty Cure (165)

The only first-season show with 3-digit wicks is Medaka Box (230). None for Summer 2012 Anime (I wasn't expecting Sword Art Online has a measly 86).

[up][up]I certainly enjoyed most of it. Not a lot of Foe Yay (if there is is fight, more than likely one side will die... though the backstory stuff could be considered that for the most part), but... Dating Catwoman is definitely a thing if you get far enough. More than that would be spoiler.

[up][up]Medaka probably had those wicks before its anime even started its run.

In any case, while you're ranting, I'll also mention that I find it annoying how some people seem to deliberately not use a custom title when one's in place. High School DXD, for example, appears properly when you have the X capitalized, and it's annoying as hell to have to correct things like that everywhere (you'd be surprised how many titles get screwed up everywhere for similar reasons).

In any case, I attribute this to laziness. Let me put it this way - we're lucky people could be arsed to make the pages to begin with.

<Mod voice>

Since we're on wiki work, let me specify something else about namespaces.

You're not supposed to make Main/ redirects to work pages anymore. That undermines the whole point of namespaces. The only reason we still keep Main/ redirects is because of inbounds. Creating new main redirects is just making more work for everyone.
