OMG WHO IS THE FOURTH CHILD WHO?! I bet it's Toji, judging by how much focus he's been given in that last episode.

Episode 18 comes later. A week later.

The anime Digimon Tamers reuses many elements of Evangelion; the "Tamers" of Digimon parallel each of the Eva pilots in personality and appearance, and the relationship between the Tamer and their Digimon is almost the same as that of a pilot and their Eva. Unlike the pilots, however, the Tamers do not have such crippling emotional problems; though the depression that Jeri goes through at the loss of her partner is used to power the final antagonist. Like the Angels, Wild Digimon originate in a matterless universe and most create false bodies in order to materialize on Earth. The design asthetics of many of the Digimon parallel those in Evangelion as well. One of the evolutions of the main character's Digimon, WarGrowlmon has the jaw of Unit 01, and seemingly pointless cord on its back which is identical in appearance to the EVA's umbilical cord. Furthermore, the true antagonist of the series, the D-Reaper is heavily based on Rei/Lilith fusion, and seeks to absorb the world in order to eradicate humanity's illogical emotions and negative feelings; the mask of its final form, "Mother D-Reaper, is even based on that of Lilith, and at one point it materializes a giant replica of Jeri's head to attack while the real Jeri is held inside of it, similar to how the Rei/Lilith fusion's mask falls off to reveal Rei's face.

Discuss.

Why Digimon Tamers is Evangelion with Mons:

First of all, Season 1&2 that were very light-hearted are a TV and gaming franchise in Season 3. Season 3 shows the real world parallel to it all, and why raising a digimon in reality wouldn't be anything close to fun and games. That is similar to NGE's theme of showing how a super robot story wouldn't actually be as fun, if treated realistically. It's not as cynical and tragic as NGE but the similar themes are hard to oversee.

Furthermore, Digimon actually DIE in Tamers, one of which death has leaves a huge trauma on a certain girl.

Now to the characters:

D-Reaper Agents = Angels (SAME design, seriously.. LOOK AT IT!)

Jeri = Asuka (Trauma+Mindrape -> catharsis/depression + Mother complex)

Mitsuo Yamaki = Gendo Ikari (That much is obvious. Hypnos = SEELE)

Kazu & Kenta = Shinjis two friends, forgot names

Takato = Shinji (Well, not really. But he's rather shy at the beginning and doesn't want to fight Rika. He's also a nerd/otaku and has a hard crush on someone who later gets mindraped. DURRHURR!)

Rika = Asuka+Rei (Apart from the name-merging.. Rei's coldness and distance + Asuka's battle-lust, arrogance and being an ace in their field)

Back to the plot:

Their digimon go berserk when they evolve originally. Especially when Takato evolved Guilmon with his rage and it became Megidramon.. Somewhat similar how the Eva goes berserk. Also, lol EV As synchro-rate and Tamers bio-merge evolution.

Don't forget how in the last episodes, they all do monologues about how their characters matured and they overcame their flaws etc.. While being naked.. Besides that, there are Takato's dream sequences, being all white with characters flying around... Hi Eva Ep. 25+26 anyone?

Furthermore, War Growlmon bears resemblance to EVA 01. The jaw, the two pillars on his back and maybe even the cable..

Old as fuck.

Speaking of art...(Warning: Files are kind of big and contain my poor attempts at snark/wit. The second one doesn't seem to be loading at the moment.)

The various art styles used throughout Evangelion. Discuss?

Wow, good thing I don't care too much about the quality of art in anime, some of those frames look really wonky. But, Rebuild looks beautiful in comparison.

...Writing of which, any words on the third Rebuild movie. Supposedly it's going to be called Q or Quickening. I dislike this, it breaks the nice parenthesis theme it had going.

Sky Girls is Evangelion with neko loli girls and non-giant mechas as main characters.

  • Synch ratios. Also known as MOLP.
    • Which drop if the pilot doesn't feel like piloting.
    • Newbie joins with no traning but awesome synch ratio.
    • Based on DNA/brain-waves/some sort of somato-psycho-spiritual connection.
    • Can go over 100%. Though it doesn't go as insanely high as 400% anytime in this series.
  • Fighting a large number of monsters, mostly gigantic, and which take on strange/interesting appearances, that have the power to devastate society. Though there are a lot more this time.
    • One of them infiltrates the base. Not in the same way, though.
  • Post-apocalyptic setting. (Difference: Setting was caused not by humans fucking with said monsters, but by said monsters themselves.)
  • German brat joins team after several episodes.
  • Special Latex Space Suit for piloting the mecha. Includes hairclips. (Hence the neko part.)
  • Mecha controlled to some extent by the machine responding to mental signals.
  • "Kaworu" appears at the end of the series. Kinda. Sorta. But far more dangeously.

Big difference: triumphant ending, which stays in the realm of real life. Character development without instense internal self-assessment. However, characters are more stereotypical before they get developed.

Also, smaller breasts, generally. The art style in general is the reason behind the "loli" descriptor, despite the fact that everyone is at least 16 years old (except Elise). No, no "thermal expansion" episode.

From here.

So, I need a name for this Evangelion music thing.

Also, Shinji on bass, Asuka on guitar, Tohji on drums. Not sure what Rei should be. I'm thinking either vocals or a second guitar.

Help me out.

The keyboard person?

I think Asuka would be vocals, I mean doesn't she want to be the leader all the time (and the lead singer is always the leader)?

I think Asuka fits lead guitar more, just from the musicians I've met. And Author Appeal >.>

So yeah, Asuka and Shinji I've have pretty much cemented in my head.

^I'm also trying to get a full band going eventually.

I think I'll do that and have Rei be backing guitar.

And Kaworu...

I'll just have him stick with violin.

Anyways. I've decided to do the Angel battles in a Battle-of-the-Bands-with-a-twist manner.

The twist being that the Evangelions, the instruments, have the Power of Rock, and can bend reality with their sounds. It's this story's version of the AT Field.

Since he's a double agent, why not. He fakes classical/rock fiddle when playing with the group, but fiddles versus Shinji and his cello playing madness. Yeah, Shinji still plays cello.

Kaji does keyboards?

Well, he's got the touch, obviously.

Also, Misato does lead vocals while Asuka does lead guitar.
