Teaser's here

It's mostly what I expected. I like the idea of a chopper mission. Although I was not expecting those clinic scenes. I am definitely getting an Assassins Creed vibe off them.

You know, I thought that World at War was decent, but not up to par with 4. After Modern Warfare 2 and it's bottomless stupidity, Treyarch feels like a breath of fresh air.

So what's Zombies going to be like? I wonder...

Is this modern-day? Slightly into the future like MW 2?

Or is this the Vietnam-era game that Treyarch is said to be doing?

I wonder if it's going to be fully futuristic with a few flashback missions like BFBC 2 or one dude reliving everything via deus ex machina like AC.

From what little this trailer shows/tells us, it looks like Treyarch is trying to make Call of Duty even Darker and Edgier than World at War.

I get the feeling that "Black Ops" means the game will combine the brutality of "No Russian" with the Bloodier and Gorier gameplay of World at War: slaughter innocent Vietnamese villagers so we can blame Charlie, kill left-leaning Central American presidents so we can prop up fascist dictators, et cetera.

Don't forget the first-person experience of being tortured!

"Various Cold War conflicts" for the setting. Vietnam looks like a given, and the others could be... oooooooh. The Soviet invasion of Afghanistan, and you're helping the mujahideen fight them. Good place to put in an appearance by Bin Laden.

As for Nazi Soviet zombies, I saw a space suit.

^ But there was also an appearance by an SR-71 Blackbird. Blackbird pilots wore space suits, or at least suits that looked very much like space suits. So I doubt that the zombies are going to be spacemen.

Treyarch and Activision have announced that Call of Duty: Black Ops will fully support dedicated servers, which Infinity Ward’s Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 did not, which resulted in internet outrage last year.

In an interview with PC Zone, Treyarch head Mark Lamia gushed “Dedicated servers are excellent! I don’t see any reason not to see them unless… well, I just don’t see any reason not to.”

Lamia added:

“We do work very hard to reconcile the desire to manipulate and modify those dedicated servers with offering them the persistent experience and benefits that the console system provides… We’re working very hard to marry those two things, so people can run dedicated servers and also participate in the communal experience the console players get to have, given they’re all on first-party servers.”

One might recall the vicious feuding between Infinity Ward and Treyarch two years ago, as the heads sniped at each other in an intercompany catfight. One might suspect including dedicated server support might be one last “take that” volley by Treyarch at the departed IW heads.

An interview came out for it recently. I am truly shocked to hear them saying Major John L. Plaster stated a friend of his consistently used a crossbow for SOG missions. I've got a decent amount of optimism for this game if they can make the multiplayer balanced and truely shake up the series a bit like they say they will.

I gotta say, I'm feeling more and more excited about this game every day. World At War's main problem was that it's controls felt extremely sluggish to me, and hopefully that'll be fixed this time around.

Plus, customizable appearances in multiplayer! Eee!

Even if it is good, we can only hope that Activision doesn't pull any stunt like it did with Infinity Ward with Treyarch.

I am saying in terms of Wild Mass Guessing that Black Ops will connect the World War Two games to the Modern Warfare series thus creating a full continuity since Call Of Duty 2.

And then we will see Modern Warfare 3 finish off the Modern Warfare series. Assuming Activision doesn't fuck things up further.

I also saw a SPAS-12 with its signature folding stock, in there so there's gotta be some levels in the 80s.

Some people I know have been raving about this being the best Call of Duty game ever after having some hands-on time with it. Listen to OXM's podcast, too.

I know this is slightly off topic, but when you first played World at War or Modern Warfare 2, what difficulty did you start at? I know that Veteran's mostly out of the question since it's too hard and frustrating for the first time, but do you start on Regular, or go for Hardened?

Just curious, since I've managed to beat both COD 4 and MW 2 on Veteran and was wondering if any other players here felt that the games became underwhelming on the easier difficulties afterwards.

^ Underwhelming? No. There are one too many instances of Scrappy Level owing to Many Deaths Zones on Veteran to say the lesser difficulties are underwhelming.

Ooookay. A crossbow and... what was that, some sort of piton gun? For rockclimbing?

Treyarch, honey, I know you're trying to emulate MW2, but that doesn't mean you need to throw in some goofy weapons. We're not playing Goldeneye here. I'll take the RC bomb, though, that looks useful when it comes to flushing campers.

...there had better be a bolt-action rifle in there somewhere...
