[up][up]That's a good point. Who would have thought of the three Musketeers?

EDIT: Another new episode from Serebii (title's on the main page so I won't spoil this)

XY 76 Title: The wind, the egg, and Onbat!

No exact translated summary yet, but someone summed it up pretty much as "Noibat hatches from an egg and is afraid of Flying". So yeah as the team baby he's likely not evolving.

Wasn't Gligar bad at flying? Cuz it totally evolved.

[up][up] If it does evolves, it'll probably be at the tail-end of the saga.

[up] And the one time that happen was with Happiny who only needs to level up while holding an Oval Stone. Noibat needs to reach a certain level in order to evolve.

Any of you remember back during OS when Ash got Krabby and it was transported to Professor Oak? Well something I noticed got changed later was that Brock said you could exchange Pokemon via the Pokedex. We never saw that feature get used. Instead we later see them use other machines to transfer Pokeballs.

Any ideas why they might have changed it?

To match the games probably.

Make it more like the games?

Or just because they didn't want to have a huge pile of mons for Ash to use whenever and could only stick with his on hand ones except for special occasions when he's at a place that has the device. Either to keep it simple or just to keep from him calling in his stronger ones if the threat of the day is too hard.

Pity because Ash pulling a Avengers Assemble moment could be awesome as Ashes of the Past showed during the Fossil Apocalypse in Alto Mare.

Considering it was a one-off comment in an episode which itself suffers from Early-Installment Weirdness - and the idea that Technology Marches On, in-story as well as out (face it, how many trainers might have freaked the way Ash did when their Pokemon suddenly dematerialised in their hand; what BW did makes a LOT more) - I'm really not bothered by them forgetting/disregarding that bit. I'm more bothered by the fact that Pikachu twice defeated a Rhydon by aiming for the horn (the Gym moreso since it's not Filler.

In regards to Noibat, fact to remember is that Scraggy was also a hatchling, and much earlier in the region; didn't see him evolve, did we?

Speaking of Early-Installment Weirdness remember Charmander's episode? Damien had a whole pile of Poke Balls which contradicts the six Pokemon limit that would be brought up two episodes later.

The episode where Ash caught Krabby stated that extra Pokémon were sent to wherever you got your Pokédex from. Damien didn't have a Pokédex, so it was probably a case of Loophole Abuse. Other series have avoided this by having characters other than Ash never catch more than six Pokémon in the first place. One of the more recent series also had the Pokéball simply lock itself when the limit was exceeded, though that could possibly be attributed to changes in technology pertaining to the Pokéballs themselves, the Pokédex or the transfer system. wild mass guess Maybe older Pokéballs have a one-use teleporter built in? wild mass guess

[up] That was exactly my point - the Pokeballs locking themselves whenever you exceeded the 6-Mon limit is, in my mind, an In-Universe case of Technology Marches On. When Ash started training the tech available teleported the 7th-and-onward Mons in the party automatically; at some point after complaints from clueless and/or panicked trainers who weren't aware of this (or were exploiting Loophole Abuse by not having a PokeDex or other licence, etc.), the League and such finally got it through their thick heads that an alternate solution was needed, and came up with the auto-lock system we saw in BW.

After all, the narrative might be ignoring that Ash should be older than 10, but even in the original Japanese there are explicit points where time is mentioned to have passed in intervals (usually based on the time left until the yearly League of each region).

The thing is, we've only seen that apply in Unova, so the Home Regions may still have the "old" technology. Perhaps Unova had its PC hacked once, much like as was about to happen in Pokémon Black and White!, so maybe they changed their system to prevent a recurrence.

Or, maybe they just felt that just sending all the "spare" Pokemon straight to "The Cloud" was not a good idea period.

I mean, just think of what would happen, and may still be happening, if Team Rocket (or another such team) got its hands on a shipment of Pokedexes and had hacked in a target-reset code.

On a side note: Do you think that, in the Home Regions, note  each of the Grand Festivals and each of the League Conferences happen each in the same month or in different months per region? My opinion is the latter. Aside from the logistical complications of getting Mr. "Truly Remarkable!" Susaco and President Goodshow to multiple places at the same time, there's also the fact that, if these competitions are televised, there would be more ratings per year if all the tourneys were spread out over the year as opposed to all at the same time.

New Question:

Since I think Gen IV, the formal videogame tournament format has been doubles. (EDIT: In this case, I don't care about Smogon, TPC is the relevant entity.) However, IIRC, the only actual Doubles Tourney in the Anime was the True Doubles event at Hearthome. Do you think that the Kalos Conference should be based on Doubles and do you think it will?

I think it should for the reason I just gave: Official Tournament Format. As for whether it will... it might if the Finals were 6-on-6 with the option of having the last remaining Pokemon of a Team go Mega once the team has lost the other 5. (Applies to both sides.)

[up] Interesting idea. I remember that there were Double-Battles in the Ever Grande Conference as opposed to 3-on-3 battles, after the Preliminaries and before the 6-on-6... Granted, they were a jarring case of Writers Cannot Do Maths due to the sheer oddity of the rules - it was a Top 250 or something (more than 500 in the Prelims), followed by 3 double-battles which had the "best 32"; to explain why that League was a bit complicated let me elaborate:

1st Double-Battle: Top 256, divided by 2 = 128; 2nd Double-Battle: Top 128, divided by 2 = 64; 3rd Double-Battle: Top 64, divided by 3 = 32;

At which point we started the 6-on-6 matches... see why it didn't all quite make sense?

Nonetheless... I would like to see more Double-Battles in the future for sure, including in the Tourneys. And perhaps some more Triple-Battle action will come in the future? Goodness knows it took longer than necessary to give us our first one in the anime.

If I'm not mistaken, Rotation Battles and Inverse Battles have yet to make an anime appearance, right?

Dragon Riders is canceled and Team Dragon Rise is disbanded. I'm a failure as an administrator of two forums.

Yup. I have absolutely no idea how either of those would be implemented outside of game logic, though. Would be very interested to find out.

[up][up][up] I stand corrected on the Doubles, then. And, as far as Triples, I think you're right. The only "official" ones I recall was the most recent Summer Camp arc.

[up][up] From what I understand, Rotation Battles are not functionally different from the Anime's version of straight-up battles: you just cycle through. And, until this series, I don't recall any instances in the Anime where switching out was distinct from hitting the bench. (And, in fact, it's the Gym Battle we in America will see in 3 weeks where this distinction actually becomes evident.)

Inverse battles strike me as a one-off gimmick. Heck, they're kind of like that in the games. It'll probably be the focus of 1 episode and that's it. Probably in the long gap between Badge 8 and the League. EDIT: [up]Inverse Battles would be set up the exact same way the games set it up: A Psychic Trainer Did It.

Apparently there has been an edit war of sorts over the popularity or lack thereof of BW and the compartive popularity of lack thereof of XY on the YMMV page for this anime. I just feel like I should point this out: the Pokemon anime fanbase is huge, broken, and hard to please. No extreme opinion can EVER be said to represent the majority, no matter how much you may see it in your own circle or whatever forum you frequent, since there is usually always as much people who passionately believe in the opposite.

So please, no more of this "BW is the definitive bad, universally-hated Dork Age of the anime, XY is considered a huge improvement and one of the best sagas ever!", or more of this "No, XY is hated by the majority and is considered the worst saga the anime has ever had, just look at the poor ratings!" It's stupid and wrong.
