[up]He really is playing all this rather dumb. On the plus-side: it seems he genuinely loves that dog — you don't pull stunts like this for a financial tool you're going to shove in a fighting pit. tongue Sure, he's got no idea how to handle and train dogs to save his (or anybody else's) life. But, he loves that dog. :/

It'd be heartwarming, except it's a destructive love. -_- Maybe, maybe, maybe... he can learn how to treat dogs. Except, I don't think authorities telling him he sucks is going to get him anything more than just extra stubborn. Somehow. <_<

He might well be one of the ones who could respond to the shelter-rehab plan. If he's a sucker for big eyes and inquisitive noses, seeing how to really look after dogs could well sink in. wink

Euo: Forgive me if you're far more optimistic then I am. If he were to turn himself in and admit as much I might be understanding on that point but until that happens I won't be holding my breath.

[up]I don't think he's ever going to volunteer to face the music. Don't get me wrong. Says a lot about his own socialization and training, really. sad

But, if he's doing this not just to try sticking it to the Man or save his own skin in the stupidest way imaginable... He's mistakenly looking after that dog by trying to save it from those who he perceives as needless agressors. In the worst way possible, mind you. tongue

He's terribly wrong, but I think he has a genuine bond with dogs — or, at least... that one. He's just really, really bad at looking after them and shouldn't be allowed near them until he learns. -_-

Wouldn't surprise me if you could get through to him your grief over Foxxy, it'd impact him more than a prison sentence. But, you'd have to chip away at denial to get there. Hard work. <_<

The only thing I want from him is to own up to his mistake, take his lumps, and move on from there. It isn't my first serious grief rodeo and was just as personal as the last one. The number of lies he has spun including throwing other people under the bus and his attempt to wave money at the problem have me believing it is just as likely he is doing this for his own sake rather then the dogs. If it was otherwise it would be a refreshing change of pace for his behavior that would hint at some sort of salvageable humanity and possibly misplaced loyalty to a companion but I will wait until he is nabbed and hear as much from his lips.

My wife really wants that pound of flesh and pail of tears. Normally I would be the angry wrathful one but Foxxy was her companion and our first dog. I decided that red veiled wrath was not worth it and I would settle for the grinding wheel of the law to do its work instead and take a relatively minor recompense and go my own way. I can't say my wife feels the same. My wife seems like she is getting better but every minute this guy dodges responsibility the more angry she gets and my wife angry is something that makes me take pause.

Courtesy of the local media who wanted to talk to me I found out this is not the first time his dog has attacked another dog. The last owner was a lot more fortunate.

Well good news all around. Nick finally stopped being foolish and came in. He refused to surrender the dog at first but somehow it was arranged and they will finish observing it for its quarantine period. Chances are absolutely tiny that I will need a rabies shot. When I asked they said they would give vet aid to dog if I managed to injure it while defending myself and Foxxy. Which I am honestly grateful for. The dog will likely be better cared for while being held there then with Nick.

In other news the literally ideal dog to join our family was in the Humane Society Today and my wife took me down there to meet her. The two reasons I gave in is one my wife is still pretty sad about the loss of Foxxy as Taggert is very much my companion. He likes affection and sitting with you on his terms but otherwise will settle for pets on the floor. Sadly my poor little Taggert has been immensely depressed and lethargic. He didn't want to play, sit with us, go outside, he really just wanted to mope around the house. He has never been an only dog to the best of our knowledge and the only time he has been chipper and usual self is at the dog park. If I let him continue on in depression it could have led to behavior issues down the road.

The new dog is another Chihuahua/Chi Mix of some sort. She is a long hair and looks a lot more like Taggert then Foxxy does. She has a dark colouration of Foxxy. She is amazingly friendly with everyone including other dogs. Foxxy at the best of times with dogs was stand offish with people she was generally ok and loved children. The little darling loves affection, sits with you readily and will cuddle which is ideal for my wife. She and Taggert got on really well in the meet and greet training room to the point she was following him around and was well behaved. The new dog is a younger one which was recommended as they are easier to train and Tag isn't even close to being too old to play and enjoys a good romp.

She got home with us and everyone was happier. Taggert was up and moving around, being playful, and in general back to his old self. My wife was so impressed and happy with how well behaved and affectionate she is my wife almost cried. I have to say I am rather happy too. She visited me and sat on my chest and we had a short pre-work snooze together.

All in all cobbies a good day and a good end to a long week. Thanks everyone for talking with me and helping me blunder my way through this. All of you have been a help. Trial stuff is down the road and I will have had time to think and cool off more and I feel less anxious now that this is all under control.

Dorkus: The new girls name is Phoebe as in Phoebe Ann Moses aka Annie Oakley. Just like my dog Taggert is loosely named after CAPT. SAMUEL TAGGART, Co I, 116th PVI a Union Army Civil war officer.

Euo: So far she is a very quiet girl. I think she is a lot like Taggert that is inherently quiet with the occasional bark or play noises. Our house is now very quiet. Foxxy was a very noisy girl. One benefit is we are sleeping a lot better because Foxxy liked to bark at a lot of small disturbances like a little watch dog she was.

Willbyr: Indeed.

Now that we have seen to Foxxy's remains the wife and I have hit the part of dealing with things where we admit Foxxy had some problematic qualities that while in check for the most part were getting slowly worse as she got older. The new girl Phoebe is like her polar opposite in all the best ways.

Found out who did the right thing with the dog. Nick's father had the dog for some reason and did the right thing calling it in while his son continued to be unreasonably stubborn. I hope it didn't cost his father too much he doesn't need to also pay for Nick's screw up.

Monday lunchtime: Call moving company, ask for e-mail on availability so I can arrange delivery.

Monday 1500: Get keys, inspect house.

Monday 1545: Get e-mail from moving company, "Your stuff is loaded on the truck and will be there at 0700 tomorrow."

Monday 1600: Me calling moving company to ask WTF they are doing, sending a delivery without confirming that I will be available to accept. They got mad at me for not being thrilled they were going to have my stuff there the day after move-in.

Monday 1615: Call division officer, "Uh, ma'am, I'm not going to be at work tomorrow because idiots."

So, I now have a house full of boxes to sort through and attempt to unpack into a house waaay smaller than we just moved out of. My wife isn't happy with where the furniture has been placednote  and she's not even here. They also lost my tool box, a fan, and all the connecting hardware for the bunkbed.

Ori: Great webcomic.

Blue: Wow base housing and moving services have not changed in decades. The pain is always the same.

Well got the call from the investigator yesterday. The dog was healthy no disease risk to me and mine but the animals fate is sealed because it is the second violent unprovoked attack in it's history and one that was notably worse. Nick has a lot to answer for.

In happier news Phoebe the puppy has been with us for a week and has integrated pretty well so far. We are trying to get a handle on potty training and potty schedules. This is hampered by my unwillingness to go for longer walks that take me away from major ready sources of escape, help, and travel. I just don't feel safe enough yet to risk it and am working on a way provide some means to protect us all as much as reasonably possible in the future. I am avoiding leaping the highest level possible in my city for now at least until I have time to calm down more emotionally and mentally and can think about it more clearly.

She has learned her name and she is walking on the leash a bit better but is still all over the place. She has picked up some of the context we use with Taggert pretty quickly. We need to teach her sit, stay, and come still, which is proving challenging as she is in that bratty teenager stage for young dogs. She is reasonably clever so we have to keep an eye out for that. She is also very agile and almost shockingly fast, faster then Taggert ever was so she stays on the lead outside of the leash-less small dog park.

She is learning to play with us and Taggert but that is improving rapidly. Still haven't found what her training hook is. Both Taggert and Foxxy were food motivated and affection motivated. The Missus thinks she can clicker train her. She thankfully doesn't have the overwhelming prey drive of Foxxy. We encountered a baby bunny on a walk and her and Taggert were more interested in it as a it was moving around in the dark. They wanted to follow it around and sniff and paw at it. Foxxy would have chomped the wee thing the second she spotted it.

She still likes to cuddle on us and loves to take naps with us in the lazy boy. No issues with food and she has learned what food dish is hers. She has tried to mount poor Mr Taggert a few times while he was playing getting petted. He just turned around and gave a little grumble like asking her wth does she think she is up to.

Walking stick. Portable personal protection that is quite reliable against most animals. Alternatives could include tazer and bear spray. All would require some training to use properly.

I have a large mag light I can take at night. Doubles as a bite stick or a handy club and of course the needed illumination for finding dog poo at night.

Kali's arms, I've just about fucking had it with the overnight dairy shift at work. For the fourth fucking week in a row, they've left like 4 goddamn pallets not broken down. Pallets full of stuff us day shift needed to stock the shelves. I've talked to the day grocery managers twice, and today I talked to the overnight grocery manager. His response was kind of dismissive, which surprised me because he's a decent manager (used to be on days).

However, I've an idea that I might propose to him to remedy this situation. If not I'm going to the store director. I've had it with having to work extra hard because of those clowns. Especially since a lot of the time they have like 3 people on shift.

Euo: Mag lights aren't for a lot of things in other contexts either. It also has the benefit of providing ample light. Neat vid by the way. Cultural stick fighting is one of those common human things that is worth a look.

Mark: Man that sucks. Just be careful not to shoot yourself in the foot.

Tonight my parents get one of the commemorative plaster paw prints which will be a sad thoughtful thing and then they get to meet Phoebe the love pup which will be a happy wonderful thing. Then we will all go have dinner.
