I tend to bring along characters for their personalities, not their stats. I powergame the main hero enough to make up for any weaknesses in allies. Accordingly, I've spent most of my Kotor time in the company of Mission, and never ever EVER used Bastila unless I was forced to.

To swing over to TF 2 for another example, scouts are good teammates but I hate having them on the team. Because their voices are so. Freaking. Annoying. Give me an all pyro/spy/sniper team any day.

Furthermore, I think Guantanamo must be destroyed.

TF 2?

Always play the medic, never play the Pyro. Every team needs one and I provide.

Bastila was kind of an annoying bitch for a Jedi, wasn't she? It's been so long since I played Kotor that I don't even remember who I used to bring along. :(

On the issue of Kot OR and Mass Effect... the only thing I found that Carth and Kaidan had in common was their VA. Personality wise they were quite different.

Also; I avoid bringing Thaddeus along on missions. He dies too easily, the Force Commander beats him in melee and shooting (which Tarkus, Avitus, Cyrus and even Thule all excel at) is better for damage and survival anyway.

Steiner. I don't care how useful he is. He's too annoying to put up with. Quina too, and for mostly the same reasons (the difference being that Quina is only annoying gameplay-wise).

[up][up]It's absolutely hilarious that you can build Tarkus to be a better Assault Marine than Thaddeus can ever hope to be in Retribution.

KOTOR: Canderous Ordo...I love the guy as a character, but Ranged weapons are useless if I'm force Storming the Entire Battlefield.

KOTOR II: GOTO...He's useless in every sense of the word

Mass Effect 1/2: Wrex, Grunt, Jacob. Granted this was because of the female parties I seem to always have, but they just bored me.

FFX: Wakka [lol] a gimmick I wish to forget.

I remember who Yukiko is, because I saw the Hiim Daisy Persona 4 fan dub! Sorry. :P

In Final Fantasy IX, I only remember bringing Amarant and the little girl, whose name escapes me right now, into the final battle. As for my fourth, I can't remember if I brought in Garnet or Vivi...? I need to replay that game sometime... ;_;

Aria and the two humans From Mass Effect

I never found the appeal of her, and the two humans. I was too busy broing it up with Garrus and Wrex.

Isabela. I usually keep Varric glued to my hip to fill the rogue slot, she's not that satisfying to use in combat, and buttering her up to not ditch me when I'm already disinclined to bring her everywhere is a pain, so I've started writing her off entirely.

Also, Kaidan and Liara. Never cared about Kaidan, never will. Liara gathered cobwebs because I ran a soldier on my first playthrough and paid no attention to the activated abilities of my party members, so biotics were just "that thing enemy asari use to knock me down." I've since learned better, but I haven't had a chance to replay ME 1 recently.

  • Generally Ashley from ME1, pure combat is so boring. Give me biotic and tech powers any day. Generally biotics.

  • In 2, biotics are heavily nerfed on higher difficulties so Jack/Samara/Jacob become much less useful.

  • DAO- Dog. I use all other members depending on the character I'm RP'ing.

  • BG- Cernd, definitely.

Alistair unfortunately. I like the character, but the series hates the warrior class. Doesn't help that my favorite selection is paradoxically a Sword and Shield Warrior as well, creating overlap.

Any kind of Bow user in the Fire Emblem series usually falls into disuse once I can change the units I want on the battlefield. Exception is Neimi from the eight game, but I still don't use her that much.

Nino as well. Too much work.

Too much hate for the dog in Dragon Age. I found his passive buffs from peeing on trees and his war paint to be quite useful. And he's a dog! Come on! I called him Dogmeat.

I didn't ever take Zevran though. Leliana filled my spot for a rogue so I had no use for another.

In Fallout: New Vegas I never took Arcade Gannon or Lily. I'd usually switch between ED-E/Rex and V-Ron/Boone.

A dog that takes up an entire party member slot, that could be filled with a person who had actual lines and stuff! But yes he's quite underrated in combat as I found out when playing Witch Hunt. When I played nice human noble I took Leliana as my rogue. When I played a slutty, selfish mage I took Zevran. Dude deals serious damage.

I second leaving behind Zevran, Ashley, and especially Isabela. Leliana is more versatile than Zevran, Ashley was dead to me when she revealed her xenophobia (literally), and Isabela seems spectacularly useless in combat and not particularly likable as a companion.

True, the dog takes up a spot where a character with lines could be. But I like the interaction you get between the other characters and the dog. Alistair gets some snarky lines now and then aimed at the dog.

In 2 I couldn't stand Fenris and I hated myself for it. Gideon Emery has an amazing voice and I would've enjoyed having him around, but his character is awful. I really dislike over the top dark, broody characters in anything.

KOTOR: Droids are kind of annoying to use, considering that they aren't affected by heal.

Fire Emblem GBA: I've never been much of a fan of Eliwood. I never really ever use any of the fighters/warriors either. Oh, and trainees suck if you play legitimately.

Persona 4: Kanji and Naoto. Kanji's Ao E attacks are exceptionally weak, and Naoto becomes a dead weight against enemy formations immune to instant death. Everyone else is pretty usable though.

They never travel alone.
