That leads to the inevitable question: What are these people's lives really like? Seeing as how, despite all of them being cute, none of them has a boyfriend, I'd say that in the real world instead of in Konata world they are all fat, ugly, and pock-marked.

Or maybe the boyfriends they get are the kind of people you'd really want to forget.
Or they're so wrapped up in their geeky pursuits they don't even think to go looking.
Or their personality traits are actually a lot more annoying than we get to see in the show.
Or Konata has the 'friends before significant others' thing going on in her storytelling.
The possibilities really are endless.

Reminds me of a Ranma fanfiction, I read many years ago, in which everything that happened in the manga and anime was just a dream of Ranma. It was kinda dark, but mostly narmful.

One day, I want all of the Melancholy Star images to get merged into a single Dark Fic.
Episode 1: Izumi Konata ("Kurokona") is a friendless geek desperate for attention with only traces of her nerd pride left and made fun of by her classmates. Her only friend is Kagami Hiiragi who has just broke it off to be able to concentrate on university without her lazier classmates holding her back. But the pair is forced to struggle together again when their classmate Miyuki (an intelligent and popular girl with a sharp tongue and a friend of both, though also one of Konata's bullies) goes mising and it turns out that Kagami's sister Tsukasa is responsible. The two embark on a dangerous journey as they try to put a stop to keep a check on Tsukasa's yandere tendencies and keep the whole business a secret from their parents and the police. But when Tsukasa turns jealous of Konata, things start heating up...
