I do not think it was ever NOT cannon. If I remember right it was just deemed as a Side-Story; It stilled happened in the overall lore it was just...unimportant.
It is a damned shame it was deemed unimportant though, I truly love ALL the GBA Castlevanias and would call them some of my favorite games, period.
What is this threads ,current and objective, opinion on the newer Castlevanias?
The internet seems to feel contempt towards them and I am...reluctant to play them. (Apologies in advance if this has been mentioned before I haven't had time to read all of this thread)
Well met Friends! I say well met!I've yet to really play them. I was thinking about Mirror of Fate, but the demo didn't exactly enamor me with it. I think it lost me when one of the imp guys did the cheesy "flying towards the 3D screen" thing that's been done since the dawn of 3D effects.
I have a message from another time...reposting since i apparently page-bottomed with it
Dawn of Sorrow enemy grinding guide

It's understandable that people aren't that fond of the lords of shadow trilogy considering it was essentially castlevania in name only, and took the series in a direction that i don't feel was for the best overall.
With that said I really enjoy the games, even if I recognize that they aren't really that good. I am a big fan of dark fantasy, so I really enjoy the art direction of the games. I also feel that the score is underrated and too-often dismissed as generic hollywood orchestra, and the voice acting is pretty good even if the script is sometimes questionable. I actually feel that Lords of Shadow 1 told a surprisingly compelling story as well even if its methods of storytelling were questionable, but then Mirror of Fate and Lords of Shadow 2 REALLY dropped the ball in terms of narrative with underwhelming twists and janky storytelling. Lords of Shadow 2 was still a really fun game in spite of that though, and I prefer its soundtrack to the first game's.

I thought the Lo S trilogy was okay. I didn't hate it as much as I thought I would. And I liked the voice acting for it.
Still, I prefer my IGA-era 'vanias.

In other news, I finished my item-collecting in Castlevania: Order of Ecclesia. Except the Queen of Hearts, but I'm not doing hard mode just for that.
Oh, I remembered another reason why I didn't like Portrait of Ruin.
It felt like it was totally catering to completion whores.
And now I feel like a completion whore, having picked it back up and instead of going after Brauner and Dracula I'm going through Nest of Evil with luck-boosting equipment and a totally shit subweapon that I'm trying to level up for some reason. (Seriously, wrecking ball?)
...by the way, what's the ability/spell that grants fast running in this game? I forgot.

I can't really remember.
I am pretty pissed that the subweapons and shit take so long to master. That's why I just skipped that shit and went straight to Richter mode.

Come to think of it...did Aria of Sorrow have any wallmeat?
Then again, the first stage of Bloodlines does...

GBA/DS Castlevanias are the only games I enjoy Completing. I honestly think it is because the early game is so hard (especially in Circle) that being OP is supes satisfying. Searching Castles and Grinding never bores me. I also like Disgaea so I could just be Masochistic...
Ehhh but what do I know?
Well met Friends! I say well met!don't feel like finishing Circle because it feels tedious and grindy
I've gotten all the item drops in Harmony and even beaten all the boss rushes with both characters iirc
Simon best character
gotten all souls and maybe items in Aria
i have that enemy-grinding guide for Dawn so yes I've gotten all the items and souls there — just that I've completely ignored the Boss Rush and crafting systems because lack of interest
Portrait i just don't feel like finishing since it just feels grindy
and i've gotten all the glyphs and (recently) items in Ecclesia

Speaking of Bloodlines...
I can't be the only person who feels that there's missed opportunity in that game, in that one of the levels is in Versailles, and yet, there's no boss fight against Marie Antoinette. We could have had something like that instead of three fights against a giant Armor.
Of course, don't you know anything about ALCHEMY?!- Twin clones of Ivan the GreatI think that's the reason why I didn't like over half the metroidvanias as much as I would have liked. I always feel like I'm being locked out of half the game at the game's own pace instead of my own when they do that Randomly Drops 20 Bear Asses crap to us.

ALL CREATURE WILL DIE AND ALL THE THINGS WILL BE BROKEN. THAT'S THE LAW OF SAMURAI.Politely: Why would you want that?
Marie was a poor (as in unfortunate) girl, who married the wrong man at the wrong time. She also has zero indication of being a fighter; I think she is a good Real Life example of Princess Classic
Fighting her would be anachronistic (like that matters in Castlevania) and unsatisfying.
The ghost of Napoleon might be interesting, but France is the origin of the Tarrasque, Gargoyle, and Versaille is Close(ish) to Aachen the resting place of Charlemagne. There are better options for french fights.

Well met Friends! I say well met! That didn't stop her from being a boss in Carn Evil. But that's beside the point a bit. As for why she's there, that's easy, her vengeful ghost haunts Versailles, and she attacks John and Eric the way you'd expect, mostly throwing her head at them or summoning blades. Even though she wasn't evil, people still don't like Marie Antoinette very much, and the only people who're sad she did were her family and Sofia Coppola.
Unless that's supposed to be Marie Antoinette that turns into that giant moth at the end of the level.
Of course, don't you know anything about ALCHEMY?!- Twin clones of Ivan the GreatI uhh looked up Carn Evil it is Exactly what I expected.
Has anyone played Castlevania Fighter? It looks good but seems to have given mah poor computer a heart attack when I looked it up.

Well met Friends! I say well met!Its pretty interesting actually. Done on the Mugen engine too. Plus Death is playable and doesn't look like some fucktarded anime robot.
I remember Slowbeef having a look at it.
So what's to keep Marie Antoinette being a monster in Castlevania? Her story at least would fit the mood of the series.
Of course, don't you know anything about ALCHEMY?!- Twin clones of Ivan the GreatHonestly, I just think it is too silly/anachronistic. I feel the tone is supposed to be a subtle parody of Horror Tropes.
If any series could pull off Marie that wouldn't anger me/force eye rolls that would be this one. I just don't like the hate Marie gets.
But hey, you are entitled to your opinion.
Well met Friends! I say well met!Hello Castlevania thread! I'm sure this question's been asked, but as someone who's only played the first four games, where should I start to get into the more modern Metroidvania games?
I'm the guy who knows how to make games but doesn't. 3DS FC: 2878-9776-7579I'd say Symphony of the Night. Its not too hard, infact once you learn a few simple tricks its flatout piss easy.
"Symphony of the Night", I said as if I were familiar with any other game than that one.
, Alright, thanks guys. I guess I'll start there. :D
I'm the guy who knows how to make games but doesn't. 3DS FC: 2878-9776-7579What version you gonna play?
Didn't they reinstate Circle of the Moon back into Castlevania canon, though?
