[up][up]Hell, they could've just used a preexisting voice clip for that.

I never actually knew the room in that cutscene was an actual area you can go to in the game (which apparently has a silver medal). What a bizarre little detail for them to think to include as opposed to so much more important stuff they could've spent that time on.

Insert witty 'n clever quip here.

Oh, and I love how passionate slowbeef was about the game screwing up that old pizza joke. That joke is very clearly a dad joke, and as a newfound father himself, he must feel very protective of dad jokes.

Hey, you know that hang glider section at the start? (Is it even a glider if it's rocket powered?) It's easy than you think.

[up][up] I understood it was a setup for some intersecting plots, like the Avengers movie did. The plot? Rebels are evil so shoot em. We'll have to wait and see how it develops tongue.

I dismissed the Sonic 06 RP but watching Slowbeef have the funniest accidents at the Shadow Hovercraft section convinced me to watch it grin

Yeesh, the voice acting in this game is painfully bad, even by the standards of its era and genre.

I wonder if they tried to replicate the slower-paced, exploration-focused feel of the Sonic CD games. But they'd need actual atmosphere for that (and yes I know the JP soundtrack isn't as atmospheric but we all know US soundtrack is better).

I also realized every Generations stage takes cues from Crisis City. See all those alternate paths and general open-endedness of Crisis City? Yeah, Generations did that too.

The thing with Sonic 06 stages is every character has their own variant of it, but due to recycling resources all the variants blend together. So you wind up with shit-tons of alternate paths that probably aren't supposed to be there.

Also, don't know why everyone's ripping Beef for the switch to the air rail. Can't blame him for getting screwed because the game decides for once to assume that you already know what this shit is.

So before I couldn't tell because the story was so vague, but at this point it's fairly clear that Sonic 2006 is referencing previous Sonic games. We're supposed to know what Chaos Control is and that Sonic and Shadow know each other. And also who Sonic and friends and Robotnik (sorry, I haven't played a Sonic game since 3) are in the first place. The game just assumes you know.

So why exactly was this a Recycled Title again? I get that it's rushed and the story is incoherent as a result, but it looks like they didn't even intend to explain who these characters are and what happened in these past games that it seems to regard as having occurred. Why position this game as a fresh start for the series and then not take the chance to reintroduce characters and concepts?

Also, WTF on the random friendly eagle and the "take me to the end of the level" airstream.

The eagles and airstreams got more use in Sonic's version of the stage, where it's actually spelled out how you're supposed to use them.

Thing is, Kingdom Valley is a late-game stage for Sonic while it's an early-game stage for Shadow, and the game just kind of assumes you've played it as Sonic first despite making it all too possible for that not to be the case. You can see how that might be problematic!

And yeah, it's kind of weird how they basically positioned the game as if it were a standalone entry that would be friendly for newbies to come in with no foreknowledge, only for them to include things like the Guardian Unit of Nations, Shadow and Rouge being under their employ, Shadow's Chaos Control, everyone knowing each other from earlier but being incredibly vague about when, etc. Then again, does it surprise anyone that 2K6's plot is a goddamn mess? Christ, the blue Chaos Emerald is stuck in an ontological paradox, and the red one doesn't enter the game at all until the Last Story.

Is that what GUN stands for? That just makes it an even dumber name to me.

To be fair to the franchise, a lot of the installments, both official and not, kinda have Sonic & *insert number of names of friends here* already know each other at the start.

Never realized what GUN stood for, and yeah, that's just silly.

Funnily enough, while I generally think people get too worked up over the timeline (it's really not that hard to figure out guys), the blue emerald is a paradox that I will concede is odd.

Finally, that Final Zone 2 stuff is stupid as hell but I did like Velder's theme and why the hell is the music for this crappy game on Youtube.

[up] To be fair, most of the prior games are also fairly explicit about following one another in continuity. 2K6 isn't quite as explicit about it, presumably in an attempt to pass it off as a reboot.

Also, the writers are obsessed with the line "long time, no see".

And yes, GUN actually stands for Guardian Unit of Nations (or Guardian Units of the Nation or some variant thereof). It's actually never stated in-game; that particular bit of Gratuitous English/Fun with Acronyms was tucked away in some Japanese strategy guide for Sonic Adventure 2, I believe.

I actually really liked the music in Final Zone 2 (but, then, I'm a sucker for bass-heavy tunes), even despite those vocal themes being hilariously craptastic.

I really REALLY empathize with Slowbeef. That fucking version of Crisis City has got to be the singlemost obnoxious level in the Sonic series and I've played Sonic hacks where the levels take way too fucking long to beat when the're only about the second zone.

Combine that with the physics shit. I love you slowbeef but jesus I hated having to suffer Crisis City by proxy and I hated having to see him suffer through an absolute fucking farce of a level. I am so glad Generations went out of its way to fix it.
