This is the thread we use to talk things over with people who have received a suspension notice. A lot of the time the notice goes out just so we can explain how seriously we take certain things, not because we want the person to feel bad and go away.

If you're suspended, give What to Do If You Are Suspended a read, then post here to begin your appeal. We try to respond to appeals in order via batch posts every few days. If a moderator has responded to your appeal, you will receive a notification in your private messages, even if you're suspended from PMs.

The Forum Rules apply here.

Don'ts

  • Don't be rude. Rule 1 applies here, too.
  • Don't try to negotiate your suspension outside of this thread, such as by sending Private Messages to moderators or posting elsewhere. Such activity may be thumped or otherwise removed, and may warrant an additional suspension block if it keeps happening. All communications have to take place within this thread.
  • Don't respond to other suspended users. This is a place for you to discuss your suspension, not others'.
  • Don't post multiple times about your appeal if it hasn't been a few days since your last reply from us, since it makes it more difficult to compose responses. If you've posted, we're likely looking at it, and kindly request you to be more patient.
  • Don't make another account to try and get around your suspension. This is called ban evasion and will get you bounced. (Again, read What to Do If You Are Suspended if you don't know what these words mean.)

Oh, it was a new user who simply without any explanations deleted whole pieces of text in two articles that I edited https://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/el.php?findfor=someguysomeguy. I just thought it was vandalism and wrote him a personal letter, but I have not received an answer so far. I made this conclusion, because usually when someone deleted my edits, he always explained to me why I'm wrong.

In any case, if I'm wrong, I'm ready to admit it and apologize.

well I asked what to change the last time I got a grammar check notice but no one replied, all I got was the same repeat message when I wanted to know what to change, the diagram shown didn't help because I though that's what I did. Plus I've studied tons of pages with everything you accuse me of, with even worse Grammar and natter than whatever I've posted so how does that work?

What do you mean?

Edit: Okay after a brief review, allow me to clarify what happened. When I removed the edit once, I told the user who had put them there it was YMMV, when he put those edits back, I removed them again and then got the moderator Berrenta involved. Under the Adminstrivia definition of edit war I would have had to remove it three times and I didn't. When Berrenta told me that the user was correct I dropped the matter. I would like to request the ban be lifted.

Hello. I believe I was suspended because of an Edit War that I may have gotten myself into.

Well, what should I do? The lock does not indicate any time and I did not receive a response to my attempt to clarify the situation. Even if the situation was not so simple, I'm already ready to apologize and close this matter.

We aren't ignoring you; we're just all variously rather busy. *cracks knuckles* Let's get down to work.

~Little Buster: An Edit War happens when a change is made, reverted, then changed again. The third change is the war, and we suspend for it almost uniformly. The proper response to this happening is to discuss the issue with the other user. If they do not respond, you may request assistance on Ask The Tropers. Do not re-edit the example until the issue is resolved. It doesn't matter if they're a new user. Is that clear?

~Fungus3: Yes, that's it. What you added to the article was a combination of natter, improper Example Indentation, and Word Cruft; it was Not An Example; and then you edit warred to keep it. Not a great first impression.

As to substance, I don't see how what you wrote is a parody of the trope. It is possible for a trope not to be used after being established; this could count as an aversion or subversion depending on the situation, and sometimes it's just a variant use. Immortal Procreation Clause doesn't mean that immortals can never have kids; it merely means that it's rare and/or difficult. Adding Up To Eleven just makes it worse; it's like you're trying to shill the example for people.

The issue is under discussion here. If/when we release your suspension, please participate.

~Hopeshalllive: An Edit War, as it says on the Administrivia article, occurs when an edit is made, someone changes or reverts it, and the first party changes it back without resolving the matter through discussion. That's it. The third (and subsequent) edit by all parties is the war. As you were previously suspended for edit warring, you ought to know this.

Complicating the matter is that you removed examples of objective tropes: Carnivore Confusion, Karma Houdini, and May–December Romance, on the grounds that they are "YMMV". That is not true. You may contest them on the grounds that they are factually inaccurate, but not that you don't agree with them.

These either happen or they don't. They are not subjective.

I apologize for that then. I had the wrong definition of edit war. I apologize for the situation and I ask to be allowed to edit again.

~Swanky Grouse: Obviously there is a lot of poor writing on the wiki. We can't be the Grammar Police, constantly inspecting every article with a white glove. That's why we count on tropers to report problematic editing. Yours is severely problematic, and it's made worse by the fact that you're offering excuses rather than requesting help.

This is the kind of appeal that makes us want to toss away the key. That said, we do offer a place for tropers to get help with their writing: the Help with English topic. It's entirely voluntary on the part of everyone involved, so don't expect instant results. You are also free to improve your writing through other means. However, we will not let you edit the wiki again until you demonstrate the ability to write grammatically correct examples with proper style. Or, indeed, grammatically correct forum posts.

Oh, then I do not understand anything at all, becouse I not could do more than two rollbacks, becouse he nor rolled back none of my edit and stopped any editing the pages before I even noticed it.

But even with this in mind, I ready to recognize my guilt, because the problem is not worth it and the user has still not responded to the message.

~Little Buster: The Narm example was added by you on 17 May, then removed by the other troper and readded by you yesterday. Also, you need to improve your grammar; I'm not impressed with your forum posts, and if you edit like that...

Yes, but I returned this trope only once. If I remember correctly, then this user is the only one who edited the article after me at all. And yes, that's why I first thought that the problem was in my grammar, since I did not do more than one rollback in any article.

~Elite Litter: When someone shares their account, on any site, that is a breach of security. You are responsible for all acts done with your account, and we have no way to verify your claim that someone else in your household committed vandalism, rather than you yourself. Our response to such a claim is generally to permanently ban the account, as we can no longer trust that the person talking to us is the same one who's editing the wiki.

I also find it rather odd to believe that your "younger sister" would suddenly develop a need to edit articles related to the MCU. Looking at your edit history, it seems that you've got a consistent pattern of editing articles related to Transformers and Steven Universe, but these other changes overlapped your "normal" presence on the wiki. There's nothing to corroborate your claim.

Also also, you seem to have ban evaded, as a new account was made on your current IP address two days ago and started editing the same articles. Soo... yeah. Sorry, mate, you've broken too many rules. Bye, now.

~Hopeshalllive: Yes. Read the rest of my earlier post to you. Which I may have edited a bit after posting it; sorry. Comprehension helps us get through this.

~Little Buster: I'm trying to get this across and having trouble. Let's try again.

  1. You made some edits, adding trope examples.
  2. Another troper deleted some of the examples you added.
  3. Now, at this point, you stop, contact the other troper, and ask them why they deleted the examples.
  4. If they do not respond, or do not respond satisfactorily, you post on Ask The Tropers asking for help.
  5. After the matter is resolved (or you get permission), you may re-make the edits.

If you think someone is vandalizing an article, tell us. It does no good for you to restore something if it's just going to be removed again. Only the moderation staff has the ability to deal with this sort of thing if it gets out of hand.

And, again, your English is substandard. Please try to improve it.

Oh, well, I will do just as you say. I was just hurt to see how a person without any explanation removes tropes, and then disappears, probably forever. But if those are the rules, then I will obey them.

Okay then I contend them on the fact that they are factually inaccurate. Karma Houdini says that the crime must be completed. While Kovu did intend to ambush Simba he didn't and therefore it does not apply. Simba banishing Kovu can also be dismissed in that it was understandable, not a Kickthe Dog moment. As for May–December Romance, we don't know how old the characters are or whether or not some of them are at whatever they consider old age. For Carnivore Confusion, it becomes obvious Simba put Timon and Pumbaa under protection to avoid predation. So there are factual inaccuracies and therefore they should not be on the page.

Hello. I would like to please ask for my suspension to be lifted so that I may edit again. There is now a Go Fund Me page regarding making an alternate ending to Samurai Jack and I feel it;'s so heartwarming that it should be added to the Heartwarming part of the Samurai Jack Page. I have learned my lesson as to why I was suspended and I promise I will not make that mistake again.

You misunderstand I did ask for help but no one answered when I first screwed it up, that was a month ago. If that's me making an excuse than pardon me, but here I am asking now, can someone at least show me what grammatical errors a got so I can avoid them in the future? I mean physically show it to me, because I happen to pride myself on wording, its the only thing I'm good at.

It seems you are misinterpreting tropes as YMMV, ~hopeshalllive, as evidenced by a false report you sent me via PM that got a user suspended by mistake and the edit war that got you here. Now tell me, how do you tell if a trope is YMMV or trivia?

Well YMMV is open to interpretation and trivia is just a useful fact that doesn't have any connection to the work in question.
