This is the thread we use to talk things over with people who have received a suspension notice. A lot of the time the notice goes out just so we can explain how seriously we take certain things, not because we want the person to feel bad and go away.

If you're suspended, give What to Do If You Are Suspended a read, then post here to begin your appeal. We try to respond to appeals in order via batch posts every few days. If a moderator has responded to your appeal, you will receive a notification in your private messages, even if you're suspended from PMs.

The Forum Rules apply here.

Don'ts

  • Don't be rude. Rule 1 applies here, too.
  • Don't try to negotiate your suspension outside of this thread, such as by sending Private Messages to moderators or posting elsewhere. Such activity may be thumped or otherwise removed, and may warrant an additional suspension block if it keeps happening. All communications have to take place within this thread.
  • Don't respond to other suspended users. This is a place for you to discuss your suspension, not others'.
  • Don't post multiple times about your appeal if it hasn't been a few days since your last reply from us, since it makes it more difficult to compose responses. If you've posted, we're likely looking at it, and kindly request you to be more patient.
  • Don't make another account to try and get around your suspension. This is called ban evasion and will get you bounced. (Again, read What to Do If You Are Suspended if you don't know what these words mean.)

[up] Partly my fault of being a neglectful old member with tendency to bend rules a bit. (But those "strict" editors have rubbed those new tendencies on me as well, as much as I feel weird about it. :P)

Guess that I just have to accept these new things. (Doesn't mean I 100% like it, just so you know)

This is my second suspension, so I have an approximated idea about the reason I have been suspended again. However, I would like to know it in order to secure better that the reason will never happen again. I would like to say that whatever it is the reason of this suspension, I am sorry, and I will work to clear the nuisances I have provoked with my clumsiness.

English is not my mother language, so I want to apologize if my way to write sounds stiff or weird.

[up] This makes two times now that you've created a page and not indexed it, despite receiving numerous notifications that this needs to be done. Missing something like this once is an oversight, twice is a problem.

If you are refering to that page, I sincerely didn't know where to index it.

@Cieloazul: TearJerker.Other would have been the right place to index it.

@DAN004: Demonstrate here that you do understand when and why appearance tropes are a problem is what I would suggest. And what one should use when defining a trope (particularly in regards to whether a trope name alone is enough).

Hey there, I've been here for a month or two now but I have run into a problem. I have seen alot of articles and tried to edit them because of punctuation or spelling errors and stuff like that and there's a problem: I can't edit or make a new page. I know I haven't been banned, but I don't know why. At first I thought that it was because I was new here but the problem has been persisting. So can someone help me out here?

~Advanced Irony: What did you do to Welcome to TV Tropes? There was no reason to change the page type to "trope".

Septimus Heap I really don't know what you mean. The first day I was here I wanted to see how the editing works and it wouldn't let me. I think but I can't remember right now.

A while back, Fighteer said I had my editing privilege suspended with no timeline because I engaged in an Edit War when I should've taken it to the discussion page. Is that right?

My first error was moved by ignorance. My second one was by neglect. Both were a single, minor slip born from a genuine intention to aid productively this page. I guess that I can do little before such an inflexible view of the value of chances, but I am morally obligued to say, with the utmost respect and humility, that I find disproportionate a permanent ban for that kind of mistake, even if it is for second time. I will accept the ban if it is the penalty you all believe I deserve for my errors, but I cannot see it as a just retribution.

Hello,

The other day I was thumped in the Berserk Button game over in the forum games section. Now, I don't if it what I assume to be the removal off foul language back from early April (which I have no recollection of the exact post as it was too long ago). The other thump (same thread) I believe is the one actually in question. Without going into extreme detail, I mistakenly believed that a user was falsely claiming something(after all, it is a game) about themselves that came across as offensive. Now, the mod speaking to me already explained to me that regardless of the person lying, it was inappropriate to call them out on it in the thread as it either offends the person (if by the offchance that they aren't lying) or even they are lying, it creates strife in the thread by publicly calling them out.

At the moment, I have only received 3 warns, all of which were in the berserk button thread. Now, I understand that sounds bad, but I think what it boils down to is that it's not best for me to be involved in that particular game. Something with it's concept probably just turns into a bit of a thump magnet for me. None of the other one games I've been in have ever caused any problems beyond the local GM saying something was too OP for their game (and that can happen to just about anyone), or for the more freeform one's them saying once or twice that my actions were derailing someone's ideas for plot (once again, I'm sure everyone does that by mistake now and then). I would really like to return to this site, and if you'll let me, I promise never to re-enter that thread, at least, not anytime in the next few months. Of course, that's assuming that assuming that the thread is still there.

My game. I reckon it's gonna be a big one

Please. I not even asking for mercy, I am only asking for an answer because I cannot stand the incertitude. I am really out forever of this site, which I love and which I have dedicated hours of work for years with the best of the intentions, only because I have had a petty negligence? Where is the people behind the machines? I am not a vandal, nor a troll, not even a hardheaded edit warrior. I curse myself for that single moment in which I created a Tear Jerker and not knowing where to index it I forgot it completely, because I could not imagine it would become a damned Tear Jerker for me. If I could go back in the time, I would do it only to call me stupid for believing a mistake could not kill everything I have done here. If it is not too late for me, if there is any hope, I would want to apologize again and ask for a consideration. I will work to never commit a mistake again. Please, don't let me fall this way. Not while I think that I can be useful to TV Tropes.

~Cieloazul: I'll unsuspend you. Remember that you should ask for help - say on Ask The Tropers - if you have a problem.

~Elkhound: Because you kept getting the wiki markup wrong. We don't use MediaWiki software; our markup is explained on Text-Formatting Rules.

~The Great Duck: There are a couple of issues going on here.

First is your unacceptable behavior in that forum game, which you've acknowledged.

Second is your frankly bizarre behavior in Ask The Tropers, such as your insistence on having policy debates on settled issues and talking about arbitrarily redefining tropes to unrelated concepts. I'm not sure if you think you're being helpful, but you aren't.

The fact that you are sockpuppeting (TheBlueMan is your other handle) makes me wonder about your motives. I just don't get what you're up to, and that makes us as mods very uncomfortable.

If this is about me not replying back after I've made a mistake, then I apologize (I thought you guys just erased any mistakes that were made, so I didn't think it was necessary to constantly reply back). Rest assured, I do read all the messages sent to me as soon as I see there's a notification. I've been a part of TV Tropes for quite some time now, and I would really like to continue calling myself a troper and edit for this website. I'll try to put more consideration into my edits from now on.

~Quackytrope: Thanks for coming in. Notifications like the ones you received are intended as reminders so that you learn to fix the behavior in question. If you continue to do those things, you risk a suspension.

In your case, your edits contain a lot of Zero Context Examples, and you have also been writing examples that contain general statements rather than specifics, something covered under How to Write an Example. A good example must:

  • Be specific. Discuss a particular work, character, or event. Broad, sweeping statements about a genre, franchise, etc., are not helpful.
  • Explain how it is an example. We aren't just a dry catalog; we want the meat and potatoes. Someone reading your entry should be able to tell not only what the trope means, but also how the work uses it, all without knowing anything about the work or the trope.
