Ok, now you're not even trying. :/
Could Vanitas or Master Xehanort count? I'd like to cite their evil deeds but can't remember them all...

How did Sonic, Crash, and Spyro become less beloved?
I am completely, utterly, and thoroughly done with Sola Sonica and 2DNaughty Dog stopped making Crash.
Insomniac stopped making Spyro.
Sonic Team... just Sonic Team.
Mario, obviously. How many poor goombas and turtles died at his hands while they were just doing his jobs??? and thats just the beggining.
"That is not dead which can eternal lie, And with strange aeons even death itself may die."Yeah, just look at the "What the hell Hero!" moment he gets in Super Mario Bros. Z. I mean, Mario roasts turtles in lava! That's just ...cruel!

@Hassanico: Those guys ain't protagonists.
.....D'oh!
Well, um...Let's see...uh....I got nothing.
Getting to play as Sauron and wiping out everyone in Middle-Earth was nice in LOTR Conquest... Oh, and the Witch-King did lots of horrible stuff in Rise of the Witch-King...

Once again, Ty. He not only killed millions of innocents just for doing their job, he also murdered one of the most beloved video game characters of all time in cold blood before his fanbase (and most likely supporting characters') eyes just to show off. In fact, I am going to add him to the page!

I am completely, utterly, and thoroughly done with Sola Sonica and 2DDammit, miru, just... Don't. That wasn't even in the context of the actual game.

I don't have too much to say.How is that not the point of the game?
I am completely, utterly, and thoroughly done with Sola Sonica and 2DProbably because it never really happened and was never referenced again? The game itself isn't about killing beloved mascots anyways.
It's just a silly Take That! to show off that Ty's devs were intending to make Ty another household name mascot (I assume). It's not really meant to be taken seriously.
Saints Row 2. He crosses the Moral Event Horizon a few times.

If you take the evil options in most games with a Karma Meter, you'll become this.
"It's so hard to be humble, knowing how great I am."Roxas is a Nobody, people. He can't empathize, can't feel emotion, and is basically a soulless corpse. Normally this would be OK, if you ignore the fact that he has a giant key that can basically pwn'd everything.
New RP!Alright, so, let's take this emotionless (arguable) kid and see what he does in his life:
He...kills Heartless with his giant key (something The Messiah does every day).
He...hangs out with his friends (I'm sure they're plotting world domination).
He...eats ice-cream (no doubt it has a poison in it that he'll use to take over the universe and is slowly building an immunity.
He...leaves the Organisation that manipulated and used him his entire life (they probably got in the way of his plans).
He...fights and kills his best friend after she attacked him to force him to absorb her and prevent Xemnas from getting a keyblade master under his control (I'm sure it was because Xion was intending to murder him).
He...gets royally pissed off and tries to go ape on the Organisation that ruined the small amount of life he had (no doubt they had become too large a threat to his plans to end the universe and needed to eliminate them).
He...fails, because Riku stops him (obviously he realised Roxas' cuning plan and stopped him).
Then he...spends the rest of his days in a computer simulation trying to make sense of the bizarre events happening around him, slowly regaining his (and Sora's) memories and generally having a good time with his (fake) friends.
Yeah. That Roxas. He's a real bastard alright.
Against all tyrants.Wouldn't it be more fun to list the protagonists that aren't subject to Karma-meterdom? Most of the properly-fitting ones noted above come from games where the player has to intentionally MAKE the protagonist one of these.
On that note, could The White Chamber qualify? I think all that bloodshed might make one fit the trope, AND it's all in the past too.

Videogames do not make you a worse person... Than you already are.The objective of The White Chamber is redemption for the murders. The main character (I forgot her name) may start as Complete Monster, but she surely isn't irredemably.

People aren't as awful as the internet makes them out to be.Grand Theft Auto 1 and 2 although depending how one plays them it might be more along the lines of Omnicidal Maniac
