Because Kinkajou told me to.

So yeah, anything about Final Fantasy! I guess this would make a good starting point: Which are your favorite games in the series and why?

My two all-time favorites are tied between Final Fantasy V and Final Fantasy IX. They're both very fun games that don't take themselves too seriously while still being legitimately emotional. On top of that, Zidane is my favorite Final Fantasy lead in the entire series. He's light-hearted, fun, and a generally nice guy to be around. FFV also has the advantage of having one of, if not the best, Job System in an FF game. Both FFV and FFIX make characters customizable while keeping them all unique in their own way. I'm also very fond of Final Fantasy I; it hasn't aged well, but it's classic, and like FFV, I played it tons as a kid.

I assume we'll drift around to various other FF-related discussions as the topic grows, right?

Ultima Masher isn't a factor?

Ultima is a magick-based ability now, and Assassins have higher magick, speed and jump than Snipers.

Oops forgot about ultima, yeah that's an obvious plus to assassins. Summoners obviously have the best viera magic growth but I doubt many will use a Summoner assassin - though that's an interesting idea. The loss of doublecast is huge, but blood price means it can be used every turn.

Like I said, just Blood Price on an Assassin packing a greatbow is enough. Also, don't quote me on this, but I read somewhere that for your Red Magick/Summon combo, it's best to have a Red Mage as the active class, as their extra points in movement, defense and speed are worth more than a bit of magick. Plus, I think rapiers are better than staves for magick?

Yeah, I think that Red Mage is supposed to be the active class, but you want to have levelled the character in Summoner so that you get the benefits of the Summoner's superior magick growth (Master of None is, as usual, in full effect with regard red mage stat growths).

Just as for humes you want to level as Parivir but use Paladin as the active class.

Popping in here real quick to make sure, for certain, that Final Fantasy X-2.5 was not real and was a giant mistake with a fanfiction getting published. Just because cleaning up a little bit around the wiki regarding it. After having just spent a literal minutes crying and unable to breathe at points because I was laughing so hard from the Tidus death scene.

Oh, 2.5 is a dumb fan fiction. It just happened to be written by Square.

...That doesn't tell me if it's official or not. It was an accidental release due to a mix up with the scripts, right?

That was a joke report, ala The Onion. X-2.5 was totally legit in terms of who wrote it, it's just that it also was fucking stupid.

A novel written by the original FFX writer where Tidus is killed off and revived.

It's 100% official, btw. Though likely to be de-canonized, since even Japan hated it.

In the most hilarious way possible, no less.

Of course, there was also something about corpsefucking to make Aeons, if I remember correctly, which also kinda kills the hilarity a bit.

...I... I just need to make 100% sure of this before I go on based on how hilariously stupid it was: Tidus canonically died because of a bomb he mistook as a blitzball and got his head blown off.

I'm just making sure because the entire thing seemed insane & the whole explanation that it was fanfiction that was accidentally sent in due to a mix up, as opposed to that being what he wrote & thought was good, makes far more sense.

Really, when I'm not seeing the comedy in what sounds like is the joke report because it seems reasonable & sane while I find what I'm told is the real script batshit crazy & goes against the entire tone of everything already established, I'm.... I'm questioning a lot of things just to be safe.

Some writers really need someone to hold them back in cases like this. I wonder if 2.5 would have been better if Toriyama and Watanabe had taken the time to help their friend with his book.

So, I wanted to check. Knowing that I find the overworld-town-dungeon-random battle system of the classic FF boring (as opposed to the Tactics' series system), that I loved the job mechanics of V and Tactics+, and that I do like fancy graphics and music, should I get the X/X-2 remaster?

X and X-2 don't really have a traditional overworld map. It's actually similar to XIII, but there are towns, minigames and you can backtrack. There are random battles, but the battle system is pretty unique in X (I think only Lord of the Rings: The Third Age has anything really similar) and it's fast paced and interesting in X-2.

The puzzle dungeons also don't have random encounters.

X-2 has a job system, so you should like it somewhat. Unless you don't like it because it's too girly or something.

X-2's girliness (especially early on) kinda makes it a Guilty Pleasure for me, but it's still Worth It to get the Updated Re-release of it and the original X.

I really wish Square Enix or indeed, anyone at all, would make a game with FF X-2's gameplay style in a Magical Girl setting. It's just begging for it.

X-2 was the first game(aside from Hercules and some other PS 1 games) that I ever played. I loved it even though I could understand maybe 1 out of every 60 words the characters said(I was 10 and our english lessons wouldn't start untill a few months later).

I was kinda like Isaaru's little brother when I played FFX. When the scene comes up and he asks "What's "sacrificed"?", I was basically thinking the exact same thing. Why haven't I learned that word yet!

Reminds me of the time when I first played VIII. I was like 9 years old at the time and could barely understand anything being said. So much so that when the Junctioning tutorials talked about your party I thought it meant a celebration rather than your characters.
