Thread current status:
It has been agreed by crowner to merge the Light Novel/ namespace into Literature/.
LightNovel namespace index -- excludes redirects
It has been agreed by crowner that Light Novel examples are to be sorted on trope pages as follows:
- If you're adding an example with LN in mind, place it in Literature.
- If you're adding an example from an Anime/Manga, but unsure if it was present in LN, place it in Anime/Manga.
- If you're adding an example from an Anime/Manga, but know it also happened in the source, place in in Literature.
- If you're adding an example from an Anime/Manga, and sure it did not happen in the source, place it in Anime/Manga even if the work is already listed in Literature.
- If you're moving an example, for example when renaming or handling redirects, and don't know much about other versions, instead just leave it where it was.
- If you know all versions of the work, move examples to the medium they're first featured in.
- Webcomic examples with adaptation go to either Webcomics or Anime/Manga following the above logic.
- Web Serial Novel are still Literature.
- There is to be no dedicated Light Novel folder or subpage on trope pages.
Edge case rulings:
- Due to extreme differences with the original Web Serial Novel, Overlord (2012) will be the hub page for the Overlord Light Novel and its adaptations. Overlord 2010 will cover the WSN.
Original post below.
This has now come up twice in Ask The Tropers in the past year that I know of.The issue is pretty straightforward: where do we put examples from Light Novels on trope pages?
General options previously proposed:
- Put them in Anime and Manga since they're commonly adapted into them.
- Base things on the original medium, and group them with Literature.
- Take a Third Option and create a Light Novel folder.
Points about this media space that are commonly raised:
- The manga and especially anime adaptations tend to be more available and more familiar to the Western audiences that comprise most tropers.
- The adaptations into manga and anime are usually very faithful Compressed Adaptations, so most trope examples apply to all versions.
ETA: Related issue that came up:
- Should the Light Novel namespace be merged into Literature?
Here's a link to pages that are in the LightNovel/ namespace.

It's 9785 lines long. The entire wiki currently has 13397 links to pages in the Lightnovel/ namespace, so of the 9785 pages that link to the namespace, 3612 of them do so more than once.
I genuinely don't get the benefit of linking to every single page in the namespace and manually copying the number of wicks from the Related... page, and then having to manually check every single one after each sweep to keep them up to date. Sandbox.Light Novel is a simple list of pages that link to the namespace which can be updated easily by simply deleting a line after doing a search and replace.
EDIT: Found a concrete example. AdaptationalBadass.Fanworks A Through M links to both A Certain Magical Index and The Familiar Of Zero. If the page listed works in the namespace, someone who goes through those that link to ACMI would then need to manually note every change of namespace done on that page and edit the sections for both ACMI and TFOZ'', which is more and tedious work. The current page allows us to do a simply copy and paste and just delete the pages we edit from the list, which is easier and more straightforward.

Ukrainian Red CrossStill going through the too-long redirects...
Do we have a page for LightNovel.Onna Dakara To Party Wo Tsuihou Sareta Node Densetsu No Majo To Saikyou Tag Wo?
Edit. Oh, mentioned as Literature.Sexiled only at the end.
Was never made into a proper page?

"ae" it is then, at least on the wikiword side of things.
I had a dog-themed avatar before it was cool. So, now the too-long ghost redirects are all cut. We're cleaning out the redirects and cut / moving them to Literature now?
Disambig Needed: Help with those issues! tvtropes.org/pmwiki/posts.php?discussion=13324299140A37493800&page=24#comment-576Well, there's now 50 left once all the cuts have been processed, with only ~10 of them having less than 100 wicks left.
My Teen Romantic Comedy SNAFU is weird, since that's the name of the anime, but the Light Novel is My Youth Romantic Comedy Is Wrong As I Expected.

Disambig Needed: Help with those issues! tvtropes.org/pmwiki/posts.php?discussion=13324299140A37493800&page=24#comment-576Pretty sure it's sorted correctly right now: IIRC the rule is title in original medium trumps title in adaptations.
All right, does anybody who's read the web novel feel up to making Literature.Overlord 2010? I went through all the pages and pulled these mentions:
- Money Dumb: Arche's parents are disgraced nobles who either have no idea of their no-longer-rich status or are desperately shielding themselves from it, spending enormous amounts of money on Conspicuous Consumption despite the fact that their daughter is the only thing keeping them fed. The reason she became a Worker (adventurers who take on illegal but higher-paying jobs) is to get enough money to take her two younger sisters away from her irresponsible parents. In the light novel, Arche is dismembered and her sisters are sold into slavery by their parents and eventually die from overwork; in the web novel, Arche is still alive, albeit kept as a Sex Slave by Shalltear, but is reunited with her sisters. Her parents face no onscreen repercussions.
- Your Soul Is Mine!: In the Web Novel, this is how the World Class Item "Avarice and Generous" works in the New World. Momonga was pretty shocked when he used it since in the Yggdrasil game it was simply a means of collecting a lot of experience at once. Witnesses were understandably terrified of the monster devouring the souls of the dead.
- Belius Dies Differently In The Adaptation. In the original web novel, it stomps him to death.
- Schrödinger's Cast: Arche's fate varies between media. In the original Web Novel, she survives the annihilation of Foresight and the rest of the Workers, but is forced to live out her days as Shalltear's sex slave. When the time came for her to finally make an appearance in the Light Novel, she instead dies at the hands of Shalltear.
Should we split Sandbox.Light Novel for now? It's giving too long page warnings, and trying to remove Gay Romantic Phase, which is done, caused such a slowdown that I accidentally null edited five times, thinking my edit hadn't saved because it never left the edit screen.
My troper wallMaybe but honestly I don't think the page is worth the trouble. I can't get it to open at all. I'd just fix the wicks the old fashioned way by picking a work to do and just stick to it.
Macron's notes- Agreeing that's the best option. There's less than 50 redirects left, after all?
Disambig Needed: Help with those issues! tvtropes.org/pmwiki/posts.php?discussion=13324299140A37493800&page=24#comment-576Which is pretty much what I've said is going to happen to begin with.

TroperWall / WikiMagic CleanupPersonally, I like something more like the previous way, where redlinks can tell you if it's done or not. Finishing No Game No Life, btw.
Disambig Needed: Help with those issues! tvtropes.org/pmwiki/posts.php?discussion=13324299140A37493800&page=24#comment-576So, there's only 8 redirects left, and one of them is <60 wicks, all but 2 are <200, and the biggest is <500. Probably gonna be done with those before the week is over.
What are we doing with Literature.Overlord 2010? Since that seems to be the only remaining issue. Make a new thread just for it? Give it a Summary.Literature entry? Something else?

TroperWall / WikiMagic CleanupNow down to Haruhi and her <300 wicks! What do with Literature.Overlord 2010?
Disambig Needed: Help with those issues! tvtropes.org/pmwiki/posts.php?discussion=13324299140A37493800&page=24#comment-576Do we need to do anything about it? I don't see why we would. Someone can create the page when they feel up to it.
Macron's notesI'm fine with that.
Disambig Needed: Help with those issues! tvtropes.org/pmwiki/posts.php?discussion=13324299140A37493800&page=24#comment-576Thank you, whoever just did 150 wicks in a few hours! LightNovel.Haruhi Suzumiya has 20 left, and then I guess we lock this thread due to completion?
EDIT: And now it's done! Thank you, whoever!

Ukrainian Red CrossWas LightNovel.Haruhi Suzumiya cut rejected or it was never added?
TroperWall / WikiMagic CleanupIt's now a redirect to Literature.Haruhi Suzumiya.
This is Idol Tap. (My Troper Wall)I know. Every other (almost a hundred) redirect was cut and it's the only one left.

Alright then.
Speaking of which, I've made such lists before in sandbox thread posts
Creepypasta cleanup got two major pages for JTK and Slenderbut the numbers may be outdated and I'm not inclined to update them, butthe latter link is more recent, if anyone wants to use mine as reference.
