The Gnomeferatu looks like Pibby.

Maybe, but that's the Newest Trope, not Today's Featured Trope. (Manipulating the Opponent's Deck, for context, today is Hanukkah Episode).

Saw someone on another site talking about how Eurabia was the featured trope yesterday and wondering how it managed to be selected as a featured trope, whether it was removed early due to backlash, and why it even exists as a trope (the latter is outside the scope of this thread, but there's already been discussion on the trope's discussion page). Checked the forums to find this thread (and that there isn't an archive of past featured tropes), so figured I might as well ask.

Idk why it was chosen besides low wick counts but as long there's a constant pattern in fiction, it'll be a trope even if it had Unfortunate Implications

Yeah, it's definitely not a good trope, but it's one that certainly exists.

I had to keep myself from marking out when I saw that the trope today was Twisted Christmas. I just watched OSW Review tackle the trope image not too long ago.

Would it be possible for Impeded Messenger to be the Featured Trope sometime soon (maybe even next week)? I saw a troper planning to take it to TRS as not thriving, even though it has 50 wicks and a barebones description is not grounds for such a thread. Doesn't matter if it was made in 2007. But hey, maybe it could help it get a little more. ~Crazysamaritan, please?

I generally don't like making articles without an image the Featured Trope. Can you submit an Image Picking thread on it first?

I can't. I'm unable to come up with anything and they wouldn't like any threads with no suggestions, just because I want an image (and obviously I can't post in the image suggestions thread if I don't have one).

Today's trope is Leap Day. I'm pretty sure it also was one four years ago, and at least then it WAS February 29th. I get wanting something seasonal, but please find some fresh material.

(I meant two, dang it.)

Ay, this is the first time the featured trope is one I've launched. Which makes sense because while my list looks long, it's barely a fraction of the overall amount. I'm just surprised and delighted. Is it an art-related day?

Okay, today had a really poor choice. Back from the Dead? I know what day it is today (yesterday now in my time zone), but a trope with 12000 wicks?! You should have picked one of the other Resurrection Tropes, almost anything would likely be better.

Maybe, but we shouldn't really need that? It's a home page, and I'm not sure if anyone actually cares as long as it's a somewhat obscure trope that's not super unfitting. First-Episode Resurrection for instance would still reference it while feeling much more subtle and targeting something at approx. 250. All this strict holiday theming is really getting to stifle the home page and make the years potentially repetitive honestly (as you can tell by my previous post).

Eh, idk, I feel like one trope one day out of 365 days each year isn't too big a deal. It's a cute meta joke. Not everything needs to be about promotion and growth. It's fine to just be silly sometimes. Personally, I think Back from the Dead is the best possible trope for this scenario, and using any other one would just feel out of place and ruin the entire point of the gag.

It's not that serious. It can't always be that serious.

^I didn't add today's, but this is the true true. The page image also adds to it.

I personally weigh potential additions as I find them and I prioritize tropes under 5 years old and/or have <200 wicks. But once in a while it's fine to do a joke. That makes us look good as well.

Yeah, while I appreciate seeing more obscure tropes on the front page, it's OK to have a more well known one once in a while IMO. Also, Pitch, the way you wrote your posts about it came off as incredibly naggy.

I go for tropes of any age with few wicks and/or inbounds. Today's has a somewhat low 76 wicks for a nine-year-old trope and is whimsically thematic.

Maybe I am too strict on this kind of stuff. But yesterday we've had 420, Blaze It, which I know users liked and many readers likely did as well, nothing wrong with that. But holiday theming falls into the trap of repetition simply because they recur over every year, and when there are users who have been here for years or readers who find it overly predictable, it kind of loses it charm. At least with Christmas and December in general we have a decent variety of tropes and I didn't feel exhausted during that time.

For the record, I'm not complaining about the trope for wick numbers, it only has 110 now. Just repetition. Back from the Dead, given the comments about how it's the only resurrection trope that would fit the context, can all too easily fall in that same pitfall. I get wanting to have fun, but this is not designed for long-term, and as you've seen with my post about Leap Day, it's going to be all too possible.

(Then again, I was practically tired with Christmas, Valentine's, and Easter, but that's my problem. The obscure holidays are at least pretty interesting, so no complaints there. Just avoid repetition and tropes that can easily lead to it.)

I mean, I guess we can use other drug/stoner tropes if we wanted to. I honestly don't really care about the repetition for certain days though.

[up][up] I mean, there's way more to Easter than just "Jesus came back lol", so there's no reason to assume that trope would be used over and over again. Even 420, Blaze It doesn't need to be reused when we have tropes like The Stoner, Stoner Flick, and Erudite Stoner, among others.

You're probably right. They could have used something like Easter Bunny or something from An Eggcellent Index or Bunny Tropes, but decided to stick with Back from the Dead, which is arguably refreshing in its own way. So perhaps only Leap Day is the true problem, since there's not much to February 28th and 29th otherwise.
