OK, so here's what I want to know:

1.) Obviously, no visible genitals, and probably no women's nipples either, but I'm pretty sure nudity is fine if the parts are covered up or there's Barbie Doll Anatomy (otherwise Naked People Are Funny would be blanket-banned). What I want to know is, what about naked statues such as Art/David. Are they allowed?

2.) Why is Potty Failure video-banned? It's been seen on kids' shows and it isn't sexual. Is it just because it's too gross? If so, what about tropes about gross biology stuff, like Vomit Indiscretion Shot, Talking Poo, and Hairball Humor? What are the rules about Squicky, yet non-sexual, videos?

3.) What about gore? Where's the limits on that?

  1. In terms of those ancient makes statues, I think they're allowed. We have pages like Characters.Classical Mythology Olympians and it uses them for page images.

  2. As for Potty Failure, I think it's because of common fetish potential which sometimes includes children (it used not have an image for probably this reason). Yes, it exists. I'd say it's still a good idea to not be gross even if you're not sexual to at least some extent, so I wouldn't post vids of a real man pissing/crapping for instance, but the other tropes you've mention are probably fine.

  3. Gore... I don't know. It's hard to say, as for example, Mortal Kombat X has a video which shows a guy beating a girl's head which causes her to leak blood, but no organs (it is called "Brutality"). I'd say this should be an acceptable bar, but don't go far over it.

If that's the policy for gore then check out the examples in Cruel and Unusual Death. The Dead Rising one has a doctor named Albert tearing out his own organs VERY graphically.

[up] That's being discussed at the Video Examples Quality Cleanup thread.

I think up to 7 on the Mohs Scale Of Violence Hardness would be the max limit for gore.

There's a (not entirely inaccurate) meme that everything is somebody's fetish, but we try to draw the line at things that are mainly fetish-pandering. Potty Failure is one such. The U.S. Supreme Court said of pornography that "you know it when you see it", and the same applies here.

Besides, we just don't really want or need a page full of videos where people piss themselves. It's gross. No thanks.

As for gore, IDK. I think it depends on how gory it actually is. Personally gore does nothing to phase me so I don't find a majority of it disturbing, but for some people the line is a lot less extreme.

For one thing, videos of gory scenes violate our "family friendly" policy. Now, this doesn't mean "safe for five year olds", like some people apparently believe, but it does mean that visitors should not be shocked by disgusting images or visceral descriptions of violence.

I would feel very leery about allowing a video of, say, the scene from Friday the 13th Part III where Freddie pulls a kid's blood vessels out of his arms and uses them like marionette strings... or any of the many scenes from Beverly Hills Cop where Eddie Murphy swears for thirty seconds straight. We can demand tastefulness.

More to the point, we should draw these lines long before we approach something that someone might be getting off to. Like way earlier.

And it was exactly that. Worse, it had also the other thing, characters getting brown pants. Nothing too graphic, but still gross, and not particularly interesting — like it can be used for Vulgar Humor or embarrass the poor character to whom it happens... but those were really weird, over-the-top videos. I remember watching them so I could report them in the video quality control thread. The thing is, at that time, there was just an IP thread and a pic got chosen after a long ban (for the same reasons), and there was a mod notice absolutely forbidding to create an Image Links subpage, which was pretty inconsistent since there was a subpage with several videos.

... what about tropes about gross biology stuff, like Vomit Indiscretion Shot, Talking Poo, and Hairball Humor?

Personally, I think we really don't need it.

For some reason, the thing that the number of video examples is not limited and poeple can keep adding more is problematic. One example of Vomit Indiscretion Shot is potentially interesting. If there are ten of them, it gets weird and too disgusting.

I think we should watch out for video examples of Sex Tropes and Disgust Tropes. But again, you know it when you see it. Some sex tropes are usually played for comedy and you rarely see any actual sex (e.g. Desk Sweep of Passion), others will prabaly be always too explicit to be safe for video examples (possibly Wall Bang Her?). Same with disfust tropes: some are ok and not that horrible to show (Spit Take, Mess of Woe) while others are too much (Potty Failure).

Are there people who get off to hairballs? Wait, don't tell me. I can't see that being disturbing enough to get prohibited.

^^ Correct me if I'm wrong, but we don't seem to be talking exclusively about getting off anymore. The other user, at least I thought they did, sort of implied that some things can be just too gross, even if it's not sexual even in the Rule 34 sense.

If you've ever owned a cat, you've seen hairballs. It's a pretty basic comedy trope as well. I see no reason to prohibit video examples.
