The Loud House is a pretty popular show, and that means it's subject to a lot of overzealous editors and fans.

The pages for it are in bad shape. Shoehorns galore in the examples section and things are taken way too seriously. Read these pages and you'll be told that slapstick violence is child abuse, and that certain characters are outright sociopathic when it's just a comedy cartoon.

Even the videos don't seem to be safe. A lot of them seem like they kind of miss the mark when it comes to demonstrating a trope. The one on Take That!, for example, doesn't seem to fit at all.

So we need to do some cleaning. Unfortunately I don't actually watch the show, so I need help.

So let's start with NightmareFuel. The Loud House. I don't watch this show, but I tried the best I could. Currently a WIP.

    Nightmare Fuel

  • Lola's alternative personality by 30%. On the outside, she seems like the stereotypical hammy princess-loving Girly Girl, but inside, she might've had a post-Split Personality-Creepy Child–like anger issue, or just an innocent kid with a slightly sensitive Split Personality that lashes out at others when thing don't go her way. Either that, or she's just Troubling Unchildlike Behavior INCARNATE. Or better still, both of the above. This, however, has been heavily toned down after the first season. So it turns out that the Loud House Wiki has an entire page documenting all of Lola's "mean moments", which reinforces my view that many fans of the show get way too upset over kids in a cartoon. Reading over the examples on that page, she just seems like a Bratty Half-Pint suspect to Jerkass Ball moments. The exaggerated-sounding phrase "Troubling Unchildlike Behavior INCARNATE." really doesn't help.
    • Lola herself, upon some rare occasions, will make creepy and humorously mischievous Slasher Smiles. Although most of Lola's action are Played for Laughs, so it's not really too much of a creepy tactic. Also, keep in mind that Lola's voice actor is Grey DeLisle, the same person who voiced Vicky and Azula. This one straight-up states that it's not really creepy and mostly Played for Laughs; it should probably be cut.
  • Lisa as of season 2. While Lisa was always the one to conduct experiments, her actions became a lot more sinister in this season. This is the type of person who would willingly electrocute a baby, secretly experiment on her family members or harvest their organs without their consent all to sate her curiosity. That's not even getting into her weird fecal studies or how she has no qualms about experimenting on herself regardless if she dies or not. She actually has several physical handicapsnote  as a result of her experiments. Keep in mind that Lisa is FOUR YEARS OLD. Also, she is quite sneaky and often lies about her human experimentations, such as changing the subject in regards to DNA samples or microchips. And let’s not forget when she and Lincoln had GLOWING BRAINS. All of this just seems like it's being played for Black Comedy, and that whoever wrote this took all of it way too seriously.
  • Luan during April Fool's Day. She becomes a prank-obsessed maniac, pulling pranks that can lead to very serious injury and the only one who finds it funny is herself. It's no wonder the Louds and Clyde are afraid of the holiday. This just seems like Comedic Sociopathy and cases of Jerkass Ball.
  • In "Left in the Dark", when Lori points out that Lisa can't use her siblings as test subjects, Leni reminds her about an Noodle Incident in which this happened. For those too squeamish to click, essentially, Leni's face swelled up and broke out into zit-like pimples and pink boils, apparently due to one of Lisa's experiments. It's Played for Laughs, but still. It's not too disturbing to me, but I guess it could be squick-y to some... not sure about this one.
  • In "A Tale of Two Tables", Lincoln's entire Nightmare Sequence about the grown-up table. The very worst parts are probably his parents' heads revealed to be roast turkeys, and the table chaining Lincoln up and dragging him down a dark purple vortex, the faces of his five older siblings surrounding him while chanting "ONE OF US...ONE OF US..." Fortunately, the episode ends completely differently. Looking at the image gallery on the wiki, it seems pretty creepy... I guess this could be kept.
  • In "Changing the Baby", Lisa strapping Lily to a table to do who-knows-what to her simply because she was too young to resist! Like what I said about Lisa above, this just seems like Black Comedy.
  • In "Hand-Me-Downer", Colonel Crackers, Luan's old dummy, with its unnerving face, who also may or may not be alive.
Colonel Crackers (looking at the audience, with a threatening tone): "Listen to what he says, kids." Ehhhh... doesn't seem creepy enough.
  • "Along Came a Sister" has The Exterminator's Establishing Character Moment of gassing two innocent caterpillars for no reason. Doesn't seem like Nightmare Fuel to me
  • In "A Tattler's Tale", Lola's mannerisms are taken to a new extreme in this episode when she was blackmailing her other siblings into doing whatever she wanted. The worst has to be when she was forcing Lucy to drive her around in her car. When Lucy refuses, Lola slowly turns her head in an utterly chilling manner before informing her that she knew about her secret.
  • In "One Flu Over the Loud House", some of the zombie-like imagery of the flu epidemic, including the infected girls' pale green skin and wonky yellow eyes. A special mention goes to Lynn Sr.; in order to keep the Running Gag of his full face never being shown, he's entirely in silhouette, except for his sickly yellow eyes.
    • Then there's the rather realistic portrayal as to how fast a cold (or in this case, the flu) can spread. There's one particular scene where Lynn, having caught the flu from Lori, drinks some orange juice straight from the carton. Seconds later, Lana pours a glass of juice from the same carton Lynn just drank from, and as she tilts her glass, a close-up reveals germs in her drink, of which can be heard screaming as they slide down into Lana's throat.
    • On the subject of diseases, there's a Licensed Game called "Germ Squirmish" which is about the Loud house being contaminated with germs that can be seen sprouting up out of nowhere. The music is very dramatic and if you lose, the Game Over screen shows Lincoln with the same flu symptoms as in "One Flu Over the Loud House" and a message about being sick. If you let too many germs fill a room, it gets too infected to enter and is cordoned off. One version involves seeing how long you can last in the basement and has even more dramatic music and Lisa nonchalantly says, "Let's see how long you can last."
  • In "Snow Way Out", Flip was willing to let the kids, including a one-year-old child, freeze to death after Lana refused to give him her winning burger wrapper.
  • "Sitting Bull": While on her first babysitting job, Lynn tells the kids she's watching a story about how she once fell twenty feet and broke her tibia, to the point where it could be seen sticking out of her skin; unsurprisingly, one of the kids pukes after she shares this.
  • "Jeers for Fears": As a Halloween Episode, the episode is naturally full of scary stuff. Special mention goes to the Loud Sisters attempts to help Lincoln and Clyde toughen up for a haunted house they want to visit.
  • "Middle Men" reveals that at least when Lynn was in sixth grade, the bullying situation was so bad that Lynn (and possibly others) had to warp their personalities to survive. This has permanently altered Lynn's psyche to the point that her sisters are scared of her because she can't turn off survival-at-school mode.
  • "Friended! With the Casagrandes" has Ronnie Anne and her new friend Sid feeding pigeons in the park. One of the pigeons is shown missing a significant amount of feathers and a foot, which the pigeon coughs up.

Am I alone in thinking it's a bit creepy how some of the girls are listed as Older Than They Look seemingly just for having a flat chest?

EDIT: Likewise Lori is on Younger Than They Look despite looking like a pretty accurate 17 y/o girl. Aren't these tropes for when there's a really obvious difference between their physical age and their chronological age? Not just people assuming that a 14 y/o girl can't be flat-chested?

I think "One Flu Over the Loud House" is pretty creepy (the whole thing is shot like a zombie movie), and that includes the montage of the germs spreading for at least being bad Paranoia Fuel (though it doesn't help that I am fairly germaphobic), but I watched some footage of the "Germ Squirmish" game and it's...really tame. None of the horror imagery like in the episode proper, barring one meh shot of sick Lincoln. So I'd say cut the Licensed Game part at least.

"Snow Way Out" is Fridge Horror at best, and "Jeers for Fears" is a ZCE.

Eh, RWBY is a... special case I say, considering people edit warred over our changes and are still trying to get bad examples posted. This one has some overzealous editors, but I don't think they're as stubborn.

Could be wrong though...

I haven't watched the show in a while but here's my brief overview of the Nightmare Fuel page.

  • Lola: She can be a total brat, and she has some pretty scary faces I admit (considering this is a show for kids), but there's some serious Ron the Death Eater vibes here if they're speculating she has a Split Personality. The Slasher Smiles might be valid but the example feels too general since it's not making a good argument for what specific actions make Lola scary.
  • Lisa: Feels too much like Fridge Horror. Again, some of the visuals might be creepy to the young target audience (like the glowing brains) but a lot of it is dark comedy at most.
  • April Fool's Luan: She may very well be terrifying, but since I haven't seen the episode and a lot of the fandom seems to really amplify this aspect of her personality a-la Pinkamena/Pinkie Pie, I'm wary. Again, more detail on specific events would go a long way.
  • A Tale of Two Tables: I just looked up that nightmare scene and it's fairly unsettling in an acid sequence way. I think it might be scary enough to the target audience.
  • Changing the Baby: Fridge Horror.
  • Along Came a Sister: We don't even see the caterpillars die. We see the puff of smoke and some brief "aah!"s from the ground. So I'm hesitant to call it NF, it's too silly.
    • Frank's babies: Specifying it's scary to arachnophobes doesn't sell me that it's scary for everybody. Looking it up, it could be unsettling to see all the babies hatch and crawl out though, so I'm not sure.
  • A Tattler's Tale: Similar feelings as the first Lola example. I vaguely remember this episode having some actual nightmare faces though, but I don't think Lola's blackmailing is really that frightening.
  • One Flu Over the Loud House: I've actually seen this one. I may be biased because I'm a germophobe but I find this episode pretty creepy. It's a send-up of zombie movies that I think could freak out the target audience.
    • Orange juice: It's definitely Paranoia Fuel if nothing else. The germs screaming is more silly than scary though.
    • "Germ Squirmish:" I watched a playthrough of this game. It's extremely tame, lacking any of the zombie imagery, so I say cut it.
  • Snow Way Out: Fridge Horror.
  • Sitting Bull: Unsure. If we see the broken bone that might be scary for young viewers, but if it's just a story I'm not sure.
  • Jeers for Fears: ZCE. How did the sisters help them toughen up, and why is it scary?
  • Middle Men: Needs more detail on how Lynn's personality warps to see if it's really nightmarish even on a surface level.
  • Friended: If the pigeon is really that creepy-looking maybe? But I'm doubtful it could be detailed enough to truly scare even the target audience.

I'd argue to keep the first bullet for the flu episode. Or at least move it to Paranoia Fuel.

Also I think the Lola, Lisa, and Luan examples might be able to count if people pinpoint specific moments. I can imagine kids being freaked out by some of Lola's faces or Lisa's experiments.

Yeah, there's a few episodes that get a lot of vitriol it seems, and people use it to vilify the family to ridiculous amounts. Documenting fandom reactions is fine but if it spreads to the obective pages, or it goes on an unrelated tangent, that's a problem.

I'm honestly curious how things like this happen, how a fandom just gets such a warped perception of the thing they're supposed to be fans of. Is it playing with old scenarios and tropes that were considered funny a few decades ago, but are now seen as abusive/what have you to a modern audience, who treat it completely seriously despite the fact it's mostly played for humor? Is it an audience unable to take a mostly down-to-earth slice of life sitcom engaging in slapstick or other comedy tropes that end the episode with a Reset Button as just slapstick?

The amount of fanfics that try to make these episodes "realistic" (while also being unnecessarily dark in the process) is dumbfounding.

[up] IDK. I'm wondering if it's the same people who think DW is the spawn of Satan, because sometimes, she's kinda bratty. That, or it's the whole "WE MUST MAKE OUR SHOW SOUND EDGY AF" mindset so popular on Nightmare Fuel pages.

But yeah, this show attracts way too much vitriol.
