Pages needing quality upgrades: Artifacts R Us

Dinner with the Boss was one you planned to quality upgrade.

I could do that one later, though I might opt for an image of the same scene with Skinner's head (i.e. that of the character on the right) in a less awkward position.

I'm half-tempted to make a TLP draft named Artifacts R Us so that the thread title goes somewhere.

Swapped in pngs for Arcana Heart and Amphibia (EDIT: Fixed). Here◊ is the Royal Brat source for anyone who wants to take a stab at it.

Looks pretty good.

The new Amphibia image looks a bit pixely. I have a list of images needing quality upgrades on my troper page, but here are some of the worst ones:

The pic on Raising Sim has a lot of small text, but could probably work at 350px without the pillarbox; I PM'd the uploader asking them to reupload it, but got no response.

Swapped those in. BTW, if mods can make threads for any reason, why does everyone else have to choose from pre-made ones? I know this wasn't always the case.

for Pryde of the X-Men, we have some leeway given its release problems yeah? Only on VHS, and kind of obscure since its a failed pilot

I just want to know since i'm happy to look for a replacement but quality might be iffy given the nature of it

I assume the reason only moderators can freely make IP thread titles is because otherwise people would make some stupid and inconsistent ones. Look here, for example. Would you really like to see threads named like "What The F***" (censorship not mine)?

I'm leaning towards the improved screencap, though not sure if it's because mobile Imgur is screwing up again.

We could give Heat Vision and Jack similar leeway. Before I realized work page image changes had to go through Image Pickin', I replaced the low-quality screencap on Captain N: The Game Master with a comic cover. That series was at least released on DVD, though, so we may be able to find a better version. Maybe we should use the later version with Game Boy.

I think the new Captain N image is great.

And yeah i think failed pilots/obscure media without higher quality releases existing and the unlikelyhood of that happening need some leeway in the image department. Because image quality can be very harsh judgment here with some things and in those cases its not always possible.

Going back a few: If you go to the IP morgue and go all the way to the end, you can see why we now have preset thread titles that are more explicit about what needs to be changed. They need improvement, to be certain, but they're a sight better than what we used to deal with.

At the very least, we should add "Copyright Violation" as a thread reason.

After looking at this thread, I believe the image on Adorable Evil Minions is a collage made by Edmania, who hasn't edited since 2012. It's rather low-quality and cuts off Ansem's face. Here◊ is a bigger version.

I've been meaning to re-approach the thread reasons for a long time and keep getting distracted by other things, plus there's no telling when any changes would be implemented.

The second image for Royal Brat looks blurry.

While not every picture on the subpages of Jackie Chan Adventures is of poor quality, most of them need help.

I'll try to take care of that one, I've set my rule of editing/working on pages for myself to be stuff that I really like myself and JCA was one of my favorite shows as a kid so i'm happy to do that work.

Also should I resize and swap the X-Men picture? I haven't done so yet in case there was any more discussion to have before putting it in.

And for Wylbur, Do you think an image pickin' special cases section for stuff like Pryde or Heat Vision and Jack would be useful in establishing image quality leeway for works that're obscure/failed and don't have any higher quality releases?

Since I think it should be a compromise between the highest quality we can find while also representing the work best, like, I'd rather have a "slightly low quality screencap" of one of these works that represents the show well somehow over, possibly, some kind of marketing for the work that doesn't represent it well at all but is just used because its higher quality.

That's my thoughts, anyway

The pages I made for 'An Angel for Christmas and Little Angels: The Brightest Christmas both have low-quality images because they're the best I could find on google. Upgrades would be nice if possible.

You think it should be a higher quality cover image, or something infamous from either of the two? Phelous has brought up knowledge on Good Times releases like those so it may not be out of place to have the main thing being something funny from one of those, maybe.

Update on the Jackie Chan adventures character page: I fixed the chan clan page with much better images, I took a look at the other pages and none of them were as in such need of help like the main characters, but I'll get to the rest that need better/upgrades later.

It was Phelous that brought them to my attention, too I'd prefer higher-quality pictures of the covers, but really anything is fine, as long as the quality is better.

We're definitely not going to be able to find high-quality pics for everything; I'd say go with the best that you can find.

For the record, here's my process for doing quality upgrades: I take the original pic to GIS "search by image", find a better quality version in the Medium or Large category, and save it to my computer. I then run that version through picresize.com (link in my signature) to do any cropping needed, set the desired size parameters (this will depend on balancing losing detail with the size of the description), and save it as a PNG. I then run the new version through PNG Gauntlet to compress it, then upload it and make the swap.
