In that case I would be ok with making it an index. The reason I like the idea of flame bait is that it gets the flame bait icon to discourage people from wicking it.

I'm hearing solid support for cutting and for marking as Flame Bait. The latter can be accompanied by giving it a supertrope status and listing the more specific forms.

Keeping the article but purging the examples sounds like a good way to handle this.

Yep, there's universal consensus of removing all its examples from our YMMV pages either way.

I think that if we end up going for a full-fledged cut instead of making this Flame Bait, it would probably be ideal to cut the page before dewicking, as with Five Bad Band's cut, since the Related page stays intact. This has a lot of wicks and I'd imagine that not cutting before dewicking would result in wicks continuing to get added even during dewicking, since links would still appear blue.

I still prefer making this Flame Bait while having it as an index, though.

Badass is a trope that was gushing and too broadly used to the point it lost meaning when it has sub-tropes that could cover examples more substantively. Internet Backdraft is a similar case, replacing gushing with complaining. I thought Badass was to be an index, but List of Badass Tropes is covering that.

How's this? We make Internet Backdraft Flame Bait, leaving the page as is otherwise, and create the "List of Internet Backdraft Tropes" where we put the list of backdraft inducing tropes.

It's currently simply filed under Audience Reactions. Flame Bait pages have more strict warning at the top; the warning in question can be seen at the top of DarthWiki.So Bad Its Horrible.

I can see a distinction between Internet Backdraft and an index. I think Backdraft Index will work better than List Of Internet Backdraft Tropes, just to comply with what is or isn't a trope and to comply with Clear, Concise, Witty.

It's mentioned on the Flame Bait page as something caused by Flame Bait, but not Flame Bait itself. I'm having 2nd thoughts about making it Flame Bait as it's an effect, not cause of it. Any reason not to put it under Definition-Only Pages instead? Unpleasable Fanbase is under this and Flame Bait so we could do both.

Backdraft Index sounds better

I agree with making Internet Backdraft and index while also making it Flame Bait to discourage people from wicking it. I also think Backdraft Index or Backlash Index would be a good name if we also decide to rename it.

Since it looks like we're in agreement to make it Flame Bait, can we add it to Flame Bait and start cutting examples? Or do we want to wait until we have the index up or decided on?

I see no plans to rename Internet Backdraft, if that's what you mean. The misuse and complaining is too rampant to be fixed by a rename.

I was going to go make one and found that there already was a crowner for it at some point. Unsurprisingly, the option that won out was "Remove all examples and keep as exampleless definition page.".

Cutting, making it an index and Flame Bait, but not all tropes in the index will be flame bait. Exclusivity Backdraft seems like it would be redundant to No Port For You.
