A New YuGiOh RP (Interest/Sign Up)

Intro This story starts in a place that the Duel Monsters card game is quite familiar with: A tournament. But this one features a prize most duelists would kill for, the ability to personally design a set of new cards. When the Blank Card Tournament was announced, many reacted in shock. Designing card artwork was usually considered a great honor, but being able to create the entire card, effects and all? To many, it seems like a dream. The ability to make a new archetype? The ability to support an old favorite? Anyone would love the opportunity, but it wouldn't come easy. 32 people are invited to this tournament, some at random, some by invitation, others by more mysterious methods. But in the end only one of them will be able to take home the grand prize. There are no runner-ups. You either win everything, or go home with nothing. But remember, there's always going to be some kind of dark force watching in affairs like this. It's a Duel Monsters tournament, do you expect anything else?

Everything Else Ok, now that the setting has been introduced, time to explain a few things. Around 2-3 years ago, I started reading through the old East Academy RP thread, which was (To my knowledge) the last Yu-Gi-Oh RP on these forums. Around a year after I finished it, I started checking in on the signups section to see if there was any others planned. Since there hasn't been one, I've decided that now, I'll Start My Own. This one's going to be using a similar setting to what East Academy used, but not the same one. Just a simple Alternate Universe to the main Yu Gi Oh universe, mainly to avoid silly card restrictions and world developments. The tech level is between Zexal and Arc V level, so no solid vision or hardlight duel disks, but also no duel gazers or D-Pads. The tournament itself takes place in the fictional city of New Decker in Florida. Don't think too much about geographical implications and similar stuff, because I sure didn't. The Rules and Regulations are as followed

• Banned Cards
  • Anything currently banned/limited/semi-limited on the TCG/OCG banlist. If you aren't sure, attempt to use your deck on Dueling Book's rated section. If you cannot, you cannot use it here.
  • For Story Reasons, the Exodia/Forbidden One archetypes, the Yubel series, the Egyptian God Cards, and the Sacred Beasts are banned.
  • For the sake of everyone's sanity and to avoid any Anti-Climax shenanigans, the Ghost Girl series of hand traps are banned. I'd prefer as little other hand traps as possible, so while there's no official rule against it, try to keep them to a minimum.
  • For similar reasons as above, any deck can only have one Solemn counter trap in it.
• Please avoid using meta or solitaire decks. We're here to have a fun time, not to beat your opponents as quickly and mercilessly as possible. You can always just do that on Ygopro or Dueling Book.
• At the same time, make sure that your deck isn't too weak. A deck that relies solely on big effect-less beatsticks is probably not going to fair too well against other players or NPC opponents.
• Due to how the game has changed, please note which zones your cards are placed. Listings should look similar to this:

• Tag Duels will operate the same as they do on Tag Force, as in all teammates share a field, graveyard, banished zone. Each turn, the active player changes, using their hand, deck, and extra deck. 2 vs 1 duels will have the person without a partner start with a 10 card hand, similar to the Over The Nexus game.

• Duel Disk: Duel Disks in this RP have two additional slots similar to the graveyard slot on the DM/GX/5DS duel disks. These are for the Extra Monster Zones. Everyone at the tournament is given a standard duel disk if you don't want a custom one.

Yep! If it's not on the official banlist and not on the RP banlist it's fine. Link cards and all. No custom cards tho, that's kinda the reason the tournament is happening in the first place. No anime exclusives either.

• Backstory: Byron is someone who doesn't stand out from the crowd, but god help the boy, he wants to change that. He's very much someone whose concerned with how the world will perceive him, and wants to make his mark on the world somehow. Whether it's being a pro-duelist, a card creator, some kind of super hero, ANYTHING in between, Byron wants people to look back at him and what he did, and remember, no matter what.

Oh ok, if it's a work in progress you should've just said so. It's the stuff like "Sonic The Hedgehog OC on duel disk" and "Age: Unknown" stuff that seemed a bit trollish. I've gotten a lot of troll characters when I tried to do some DND campaigns in the past, like one guy who constantly wanted to play as a Skeleton and would yell at me for not letting him play as non-sentient undead for no reason, so I'm a bit on edge when it comes to that.

I actually like the idea of a deck based on "Lair Of Darkness", but a few of the decks I've faced using it have been a bit... obnoxious. (Lair Infernoids in particular made me want to pull my goddamn hair out) so I'm just a bit cautious around it. The main problem I have is the Knightmare Cards, which are on the Yugioh Game Breaker page for a good reason, and Utopia the Lightning, which tends to lead itself to Anti-Climaxes by ending the duel on like turn 3 and running over boss monsters like no tomorrow. Try replacng Utopia with something else and the knightmares with stuff like Wee Witch's Apprentice. Also, cutting out Evenly Matched would be nice. Mainly because of how frustrating it can be to certain archetypes.

Overall, just flesh out your character a bit more, like giving them some motivation for going to the tournament, and re-balance your deck a bit.

• Duel Disk: Customized with plates and covers to make it look like an old 90s PC
• Appearance: Mara dresses casual for games but always tries to coordinate an outfit.◊ She's about 5'3 tall.
• Backstory: Mara is a casual hobbyist who made it big through dogged determination more than anything else. In school she got by on absurdly determined study sessions and socialization driven by beatdowns when necessary, and she got into computer programming as a career through a similar tolerance for brain-grinding bullshit. That natural rebellious streak adapted well into something like Duel Monsters, where she could pound on people with a deck archetype she was told was suboptimal, Amazons, and just grind her way to success. Having the cash from a full time job helped her not only build the deck but stay engaged with the game without it being life-or-death. This tournament got her attention though—she could finally give Amazonesses the support they needed to get competitive, without putting a paragraph of text on every card!

Wait what?

So a couple of questions.

First, am I to assume when we say "monster (far left)" and so on, we mean from our player's perspective? So if my opponent says their far left, it really means my far right and so on.

Second, are we doing 4K LP or 8K LP? Because there have been a lot of YGO R Ps post-East Academy and the general consensus for what came after was that 8K LP tends to take too long for an RP duel.

EDIT: okay, third question. Will there possibly be Turbo Duels?

• Appearance: Looks like this but without the makeup or wig and a bit younger.◊ Has short curly black hair.
• Backstory: William Coleman is a man of business and joy, a strange combination. From an early age, he was known to be a bit of a class clown and growing up hasn't changed that one (1) bit. However, there has been a very good thing to come from this: William is a natural entertainer of young children. Having actually worked a clown gig for a few years, William wants to try and aim bigger. William wants to star in his own TV show aimed at educating young kids with fun and games. Making it on TV ain't cheap, so William, in an attempt to raise money and awareness, took up the Duel Disk, grabbed his old Toon deck, and ventured forward to design some cards and get those sweet, sweet royalty bucks.

@Krika I think I have to see the decklist first. Invoked are really all over the place in terms of meta strength, like on one hand you have Caliga and Cocytus on one hand, you have Mechaba and Raidjin on the other.
