Needs Help: Dueling Works

Trimmed down a bit of the WesAni one, but I'm not sure how much more should be cut. I'm definitely thinking any duels that don't share a direct theme should be stripped.

Also, I corrected some grammar.

Is there a specific format for these pages that we can think of that could replace the current one?

Not that I can think of off the top of my head. I personally would go to just using bullets like in a standard list, but I don't know if that's allowed.

Also, there are now a bunch of examples on the main page that do NOT follow the table example. What should we do about those?

I think keep and refine. When in doubt, you could always ask the mods.

This also the clean up thread? Its got so many questionable entries like it matches up Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann vs Lucky Star you cant get more different shows but its listed.

Regarding format changes: what we want to see is general consensus, and TRS is usually how that is established. If the current format of Dueling Works causes problems with some browsers, then it's probably worth changing, but we should form agreement on what the final result should look like.

Frankly, highly stylized articles tend to be more trouble than they're worth.

Regarding this, it's generally acceptable to remove invalid examples, but if they get put back then it's an Edit War, so any removal should include a link to this topic so the other troper(s) can discuss the matter.

I mean, there is always the nuclear option and just making this a page without any examples. I think we've had a couple other articles that had examples cut due to problems with shoehorning.

We could have it as an In-Universe Examples Only trope. As it stands now even if we cut the shoehorned examples, this trope feels like it'll always be a case of someone attempting to right great wrongs by using their 'obviously superior' show/game/whatever to give a thinly veiled Take That! to whatever thing they don't like.

Removing all examples should only be done if cleaning it up doesn't work. Nuking is the last resort, not the first or second.

What are you guys opinion on the "winner" section. While the trope does mention there are shows that are similar to each other that are released around the same time, the winner column seems to be more subjective as there isn't a clear way to determine it. I know for films the standard is to look at commercial and critical fronts with some making claims about audience but I wasn't sure if cutting this might reduce both some of the complaining bits and maybe make the table less clunky (should we ultimately agree the table should stay).

I think we should keep some form of it, since there are parts which discussed what made one more successful than the other (Executive Meddling, Screwed by the Network, Game Breaking Bugs etc) that I, and hopefully others, find interesting.

These can be covered by "Implementation". I agree that "Winner" is too subjective and doesn't really tell us about the creator's descision to release their similar-concept work. Tropers can rate good/bad/winner/lose in the recommendations.

What if we renamed Winner to something like Results or WATN (Where Are They Now)? Most entries in the winner column boils down to comments on how successful and how fondly remembered, anyway.

More fizzled out. I started the thread to talk about changing the formatting, but that went by the wayside as people decided example cleanup was of higher priority. But let's see if we can't tackle it now.

I'm not familiar with how to make a crowner, so here goes.

Perhaps let's prioririze on the cleanup first, then the formatting.

There are so many things that have been shoehorned with weird pairs and works what the troper seems to hate.
