I... didn't care much for this episode. There's things going badly for the heroes and then there's the villains just BS'ing their way through everything. Like, that whole gem thing and the third spy were just retarded. As others have said, the Major and the white haired chick being able to sneak into that party was also a little stupid.
I wonder if this will actually have a happy ending. Given the truth behind the Legend of the White Witch and what was revealed at the end of the episode, I'm not entirely sure if this can end any way other than bittersweetly (assuming it's not a Downer Ending). In fact, that might be why Fine and Izetta are basically acting like a couple now. They're front loading all of the yuri so one of them can die towards the end.
Let the joy of love give you an answer! Check out my book!…And I just noticed there was only 4 episodes left. Somehow I can't really envision a satisfying ending in that timeframe…
Wait, this is only a 12 episode anime? I thought it was going to be 24. How in the bloody hell can they wrap up anything in four episodes?
Let the joy of love give you an answer! Check out my book!I'm pretty confident Lord Redford is working for the Germanians. I originally chalked up the two times they knew about supposedly secret plans (The meeting and the attack on the carrier) to coincidence but after seeing Bergmann show up at the party I knew that there must be something going on, considering Redford was in a situation to tip off the Germanians during all three of the aforementioned incidents.
Best case it's going to be "and their adventures continue ending".
Irritating episode. I guess we were supposed to emphasise with the spy, but I disliked him from the first episode so I'd rather he'd died more humiliating rather than getting to have a corny farewell speech and misplaced sympathy.
The plot is indeed on the villains side; it was all far too easy for the spys to get into the country, far too little paranoia and mistrust for people at war.
I liked Rickert well enough. I had some hopes he might think twice about what he was up to and give Berkman's plan a bloody nose, but nope.
And yes, the constant parade of things going swimmingly for Berkman is starting to get very annoying. I understand that there needs to be adversity for the heroes, but Berkman has never once lost his smug damn grin, because his guesses have never once been incorrect and his plans have never once gone awry. Redford being a spy would go a long way toward explaining that, but if that was the case I would have expected some oblique hints to where Berkman was getting his information. This last episode proved the writer isn't above 'surprise, this character was a spy with no hints at all!', though.
I'm putting a tentative death bet on Fine for now. With the tone it's taking now, there's no way things will end happily, and the Weisse Hexe story was explained in too much detail to not come back and bite Izetta.
It's been fun.Yeah, that pretty much sums it up. Besides everything already mentioned, there's an awful lot of plot-propelled bullets on both sides. The royal guardswomen barely manage to wound one of two spies at close range, but later they snipe one down while he's running with a single musket shot? How did they even see him, it was the middle of the night and they didn't know which way he went... and it didn't even matter because the double-secret deep cover spy from nowhere showed up and, for some reason, that guy was invisible.
The other thing I don't get is—ignoring how Belkman/Berkman/whatever got into that party, and the lack of bodyguards on the unarmed head of state and human superweapon—why didn't he, y'know, kill them? Instead of just stealing some witch blood? Maybe he's a Yuri Fan or something...
Given how the two character deaths we've had played out, Izetta or Fine (but not both) dying seems inevitable. Either Izetta does a Heroic Sacrifice to save the world, or Fine dies and Izetta goes berserk to kill all the bad guys. Both seem equally likely. If you're hoping for a less Bury Your Gays ending, Flip Flippers seems a lot more promising.
Flip Flappers may yet find a way to shoot things down. If Yuri On Ice is the only show this season where the main couple makes it out intact, then I'll take it, but I won't like it.
Anyway, the proposed twist that Redford is leaking info to the Germanians may be of some substance, but I think that's probably just people trying to figure out why Berkman has never yet in the course of the series been wrong about something.
It's been fun.only 4 episodes left and i'm surprised no ever assumed this show screamed yuri bait.
What? What is this? There's a difference between a tragic/unfulfilled relationship and yuribait, though. If the show ends with Fine or Izetta dead for the sake of Eylstadt and its people, it won't be my first choice for an ending, but I'll accept it if it's done well. If they get killed because Berkman magically has annotated maps of Fine's castle in Eylstadt and Lotte is revealed to be a Germanian master assassin in episode 11, I'm going to be pissed off.
It's been fun. With the writer's track record, I wouldn't be surprised if Fine or Izetta appear to die, but turn out to survive anyway
Yeah i'll be pissed if they end up dead by the end because of some magic bullshit from germanian. Then again i hope the ending doesn't pull a kabaneri and rush it.
What? What is this?Is- is that the writer guy from Shirobako?
Oh, wow, he did So Ra No Wo To. I love that show! Okay, faith tentatively restored...

It's been fun.Is the show good?
What? What is this?Which one, Sora no Woto? Yeah, I love it. It's very melancholic, but there's an underlying theme of hope that I really love.
Entertainingly, Sora no Woto also contains an almost-confirmed lesbian couple, or several.
It's been fun.Yeah that. i might check it out
What? What is this?I think I'd accept Together in Death for the ending. It wouldn't be my preferred ending but I'll take it.
Let the joy of love give you an answer! Check out my book!I would REALLY hope this does not fall into Bury Your Gays because No. Just... No.
Considering the writer's past work; I'd say its more likely they'll both survive, albeit in an extremely crappy situation, but they'll ultimately be together. They'll lose the war, but yuri will win.
That said yea, I doubt they'll outright kill either lead.
A lazy millennial who's good at what he does.I can't speak to his other shows like Mai-Hime and so on, but the other show about Lesbians in Wartime he wrote managed to pull a happy ending, complete with the end of the war and all the couples together, out of a very dark cliffhanger situation. Granted, this isn't that show, and an Ersatz WWII has constraints in terms of how it can play out - but enough has been changed already, even in terms of the political landscape in Europe, that we may yet be able to hold out hope.
It's been fun.Episode 9 is out.
Preliminary reaction - this is some bullshit.
It's been fun.That's a first watch reaction?
YO. Rules of the Internet 45. Rule 45 is a lie.Just finished the episode, with some distractions in the middle.
Secondary impressions - still some bullshit. Germania has cloning technology advanced enough to resurrect a woman from pieces of a centuries-old corpse? And Witches have the power to mind hop from beyond death if they taste their descendants' blood? What? Also, I'm very disappointed with how Sophie sounds and carries herself. She talks like a punk, not like some legendary hero - if nothing else, she should sound more like Fine, who speaks in kind of an archaic, regal way.
That said, I think my bet just increased for a happy ending. The show isn't going to end on three more episodes of 'Landsbruck is occupied, Fine is dead, Izetta is also dead, everything sucks, the end'. This has to be the Darkest Hour, and that makes me hopeful for a comeback.
^Yeah, but at this point it's standard stuff. Berkman's plans never go wrong, convenient documents, etc etc. It also seems like Eylstadt's Intelligence bureau spent the three-month time skip baking pies instead of developing new weapons tech or changing anything about their battle plans to counter the blitzkrieg.

It's been fun.i was hoping sophie would at least sound older
What? What is this?
Watched the first two episodes. This was on my list, it just took me forever to actually start it. Pretty good animation, as expected. Da Sakuga is strong.
Strong, badass princess voiced by Saori Hayami? Yes plz. Yuri? also yes. Glad I started this...now to play catch up.
