Condemned by History is a problem trope for many reasons. It leads to edit warring and confusion over what qualifies. In this thread we'll look for bad examples, and look for feedback. Here are the guidelines for this trope:
- The franchise has to be truly popular and loved at first. Things that are So Bad, It's Horrible don't count.
- Simply losing popularity isn't enough. We need to see an actual backlash, with liking it being considered bizarre. Otherwise, every not-so-famous film or concluded television series would be here.
Let's go!

In 2008, X-Play underwent a massive refresh, ditching pretty much all of its comedy (including the racist jokes) and greatly expanding its scope to include interviews, hands-on demos, discussion segments, and other things akin to what IGN and GameSpot were doing at the time. I think that decision alone should disqualify the show from being CBH, unless the post-08 era also somehow qualifies for CBH.

This is Idol Tap. (My Troper Wall)That doesn't change at all that X-Play meets CBH's definition of "thing that used to be well-liked is now only ever brought up negatively and trested worse than it was in its heyday".
CBH is not as much as the content of something but rather about people's attitude towards it.
OK, looking more closely at CBH and its subpages, there are several things I should note:
- Dan Schneider and John Kricfalusi were removed a few months back due to their works still being popular, despite both creators' toxic reputations. (Was this ever discussed, or was it unilateral?)
- The Anime & Manga folder has been completely excised due to there being no examples at present. Why, in particular, were 4Kids Entertainment and Oreimo removed?
- The Patton Oswalt video in the entry for "The Christmas Shoes" contains a scene of masturbation, complete with cum.
- Dave Sim, creator of the Cerebus the Aardvark comic, is listed as an example of CBH, but not Cerebus itself, in spite of the downturn the comic took during its later issues.

This is Idol Tap. (My Troper Wall)Yeah, regardless of whether the content's changed, it peoples' perceptions haven't, then it's irrelevant. In this case, a rebrand seems like it just made it less relevant in the culture's consciousness meaning that it's that negative era that people remain aware enough to condemn.
Found a Youtube Channel with political stances you want to share? Hop on over to this page and add them.4kids has had a current increase in nostalgia and a few of their dubs like Pokémon are held in high regard. Plus making TMNT 2003.Hence why we removed it.
"That's right mortal. By channeling my divine rage into power, I have forged a new instrument in which to destroy you."Oy, I'll remove that video if it's too graphic. Likely slipped past the old process (which was "approve all")
Current Project: Incorruptible Pure PurenessOreimo was the leader of a trend (sexualised younger sisters) that is now dead outside of outright pornography, and has been given an entry on Genre-Killer, but it's not clear that the franchise itself is condemned. The first season still has fans precisely because it appealed outside of that niche.
The problem with Cerebus is that the comic is still well-regarded for the bulk of its run before it became an Author Tract, and even after, it's reconned to be good as long as it's not tackling gender issues. The author, on the other hand, is regarded as talented but deranged and hateful, when he was once seen as a vanguard in independent comics. And that has tainted anything he's involved with. (That said, I think he fits on Fallen Creator instead.)
Stories don't tell us monsters exist; we knew that already. They show us that monsters can be trademarked and milked for years.I agree, Dave Simm might fit more as a Fallen Creator. In fact, Dan Schneider and John K. could possibly be moved there too since their works are still well-regarded while they’ve been revealed to be emotionally abusive creepers.

Discombobulate.I'd actually say that Dan and John could be CBH still. I don't see why their works would have to be for them to also be. People don't just dislike them now, they retroactively dislike them as creators.
Granted, I'm not sure what the real difference is with Fallen Creator and CBH when it comes to creators.
Current Project: Incorruptible Pure Purenessx5 Kirby: Right Back at Ya! also has a well-received 4Kids dub, so that's another reason why it was removed.
Kirby is awesome. When John K was added to CBH, he was considered a keep because whatever works of his that were successful (i.e. Ren and Stimpy) had their success attributed to someone else (i.e. Bob Camp). I added the entry, using the same logic that was in Rob Liefield's entry (i.e. - having nothing to do with what made Deadpool and Cable work)

Image Pickin' BacklogAm I good to cut the Sailor Moon 3D game?
pee pee poo pooWould Glitchtale fit for the Fan Works tab on this trope?
From my knowledge - mainly regarding this video and its comments, though I've seen some commentary about it in other places as well - it used to be universally loved and was considered one of the best Undertale AUs, until people began to look back at the story's quality and controversies related to its creator began to surface in 2023.
Come with me, and we will fly, to a Castle in the Sky...Any final thoughts regarding the public perception of American Beauty?

Orcus on His Throne will always be my pet peeve.Personally I haven’t seen much discourse regarding the film, though my film professor seemed to see enough merit in the film to assign it less than two years after everything came out abo it Kevin Spacey
Post here to avoid edit war.
- Ask Princess Molestia: To make a long story short, as time went on and the blog as with the show's popularity increased, more and more fans came to see how uncomfortable the premise was. After all, Molestia is the comedic story of Princess Celestia going around and doing all kinds of sexual, non-consensual things to her subjects. Nowadays no one really remembers the blog very fondly save for the impressive artwork. Let's just say it was written in a different era of internet culture.
This entry was first added in March 20th 2023 by Grey-ghost. I removed it on the same day. Then mor than a year later, it was added back by Jacob 175.
The problem is that it doesn't mention the popularity of the blog before it got condemned at all and so it should be remove.
It was a thing for a while, but I don't know if it has become condemned or the joke just ran out steam. A blog running on a single joke is never going to last long whatever the joke.
Stories don't tell us monsters exist; we knew that already. They show us that monsters can be trademarked and milked for years.I'd imagine that a character blog where the joke is that the character is a child molester was never mainstream in the fandom. I also doubt that people suddenly realized how uncomfortable molestation jokes are.

You may overestimate the early MLP fandom...
Current Project: Incorruptible Pure PurenessIt was absolutely condemned to the point it got a C&D from Hasbro after a teenager launched a campaign against it. But I think it was always controversial by its very nature, even if it was popular with its target audience.
I do some cleanup and then I enjoy shows you probably think are cringe. It was a thing, and I'm pretty sure it was just a joke that ran its course. e: oh, or ran its course and eventually had legal action taken. But it was not "beloved", so that disqualifies it as an entry

By the same logic, I think this example from the Web Original page could be removed.
- While YouTube Poop as a whole remains popular, numerous techniques commonly used in it have fallen out of grace.
- Jokes that lean heavily into the edgy, such as racial jokes and Black Comedy Rape, have increasingly come to be seen as tasteless as the mainstream Internet moved its preferences farther away from "edgy" content with the rise of the alt-right using "edgy jokes" as a recruitment method for fascist views. Some creators who once employed it, such as Combuskenisawesome, have publicly disowned the videos in question.
"You can't joke about that, it's wrong" has always been a belief that some people held, even decades ago, and it's still a belief that some people oppose in the present.
I still see sus jokes. (Both that and of the Among Us variety - if anything, the latter caused the former receive a shot in the arm in popularity)

I'd argue those are seperate from Bill's standup comedy, which he is listed on. Maybe edit his listing to reflect only his comedy career only.
