@Snark Moose Love your suggestion regarding Big Bad's nature

[up] I concur.

Here's something we should think about - how exactly DID First Contact occur?

Are we going with the stereotypical Alien Abduction, or with something else?

Alien official crash land to earth. The UN Navy fishes them out.

[up][up]I guess an alien empire might try to aim for something more... grandoise, so to put it.

Maybe they started off by putting the asteroid/moon-chunk of our City of Adventure in the ocean and proclaiming "[insert 'hello' substitute here]" from atop of it?

So, how come humanity didn't go for the whole We Come in Peace — Shoot to Kill thing?

After all, somebody who goes around blowing up moons/asteroids/whatever doesn't seem like the sort of person you'd wanna be friends with, does it?

[up]A valid point, though I suppose some sort of fear of "just what else those guys can do?" could set in. Hm, for other options... Showing up with a welcome armada is likely to elicit the same reaction, and I don't think abduction would bring aliens much friendliness either. The aliens probably have some experience with First Contacts, so how to go about it...

How about going with flameboy21th's proposition, and revealing that the entire crash was staged to win humanity's sympathy?

Here's a thought I just had:

What if either Terra or Adhara had a boyfriend/fiance/whatever before they met and fell in love with each other?

Adhara probably has someone she is arranged to marry to.

Terra recently broke up with Beast Boy.

Ok, I really don't think she's THAT Terra.

Hey, guys, I just had an idea!

OK, I know we've established that the Magical Girlfriend is clairvoyant, but I was thinking...what if ONLY the royal family of the Najma (are we going with that for the species name?) had that power? What if other members of the species had different powers, but bordering on What Kind of Lame Power Is Heart, Anyway?? Like maybe the ability to shapeshift, but only into a slug. And maybe the more high-class you are, the more powerful you are.

On that note, I'd like to present an idea for a new character:

Adhara's servant Quasar (gender undecided as of yet, but I'm willing to take suggestions) who possesses the shapeshifting-into-slug power I just mentioned.

[up]That's a neat concept, but I think we should perhaps restrict ourselves to psychic abilities, as to preserve some sort of a theme. As in - the most powerful line gets clairvoyance, but the run-of-the-mill Najma has a... dunno... the ability to sense people around them? Not sure.

As for Quasar, that's a star type, not a star name. Also, I was looking for a star beginning with Q, as a counter-proposition, and look what I've found. grin

Ok, how about Qablu?

In fact, that gives me an idea - what if ALL of the royal family's servants had names beginning with Q?

And as for this particular servant...how about we give them Aura Vision?

Hey guys, I was just wondering - what nationality should Terra be?

Should she be a naturally born citizen of this artificial island city in the middle of the ocean, or should she be Canadian or Indian or summat like that?

The island is UN property, there should be no citizen on it.

[up]A good point.

I was thinking Indian, though for no particular reason...

[up][up]Well, if there are no CITIZENS, how come there's a CITY?

'Citizen' generally means an inhabitant of a city, y'know.

Because it's not a city? It's an international zone with a military base and a few buildings.

...Wait, I'm confused. Is the action taking place in the city, or not?

And what nationality do YOU think Terra should be?

The etymology of the name Terra hints at a European background... Maybe a US citizen of Indian descent?

As for the island, which, btw, needs a name too, I'd suggest it's an independent city-state with extraterritoriality for UN buildings (same way it works now). Even without a UN administration, the island, because it has no native inhabitants, is bound to be extremely multicultural.

[up]Makes sense.

Though the thing is, what about children born on the island, whose parent do they get nationality of? What if, having lived their whole life on the island, they don't feel like a national of whatever the parent come from? Is there some sort of "islander" nationality? They can't be nationless, they wouldn't be able to travel beyond the island.

Re: the name - maybe some translation of "alien island"? I mean, there's no reason why they wouldn't go for something obvious.

If the island is a city-state, it would be nothing more than a puppet of the UN.

The purpose of cities is to provide an economy, which is hard to achieve when the city has no "owner" otherwise.

Quick question - should Reality Ensue in this world, especially in regards to the relationship (by that, I mean Terra and Adhara have to really work at it)?
