Man I haven't been around this forum in forever. I think the last time I was active here was when Madoka was new.

Anyways, I'm moving my post about the anime from the video game thread to here since it was pointed out to me...

Watched the first episode recently. Originally censored, but the bright lights everywhere were really obnoxious, so I eventually went for an uncensored version.

I'm not sure what to think of it. The biggest draws for me at the moment are, in order, the music, wanting to know what is up with this world (and how the games will play off of the world building from the anime), and Mirei, who I really, really want to call Daidouji cause they look pretty similar when Dai's wig is off. The fanservice seemed on par with Manyu Hikencho; I'm assuming Mermaid actually has the same director as that show did. I heard Mermaid was over the top, which it is compared to Senran Kagura, but I didn't really get that. As far as I'm concerned, Kill la Kill still beats out Mermaid in that regard.

Character-wise, Mirei grew on me (I was "meh" about her until now) and Mamori's kind of adorable but a little annoying (but's only thanks to her character archetype and the "virgin" running gag; I guess her first name also sounding like "mammary" wasn't enough, since it hasn't been commented on yet...). Most of the others didn't stand out to me too much, except for Kasumi and the Ladies, and the school setting kind of threw me off. Mei Fon(g?) reminded me Nanael for some reason. It's probably her voice. Also, I never got the impression that a certain character's gender was supposed to be hidden, going by the show itself.

I really hope the anime gets an OST release for the background music, because I really liked what I heard from the first episode alone. I hope the games' music is on par.

Can I say that I don't like the odds when the majority of the seen supporting cast are either crazy, bitchy or most likely evil? I think the only supporting characters who aren't either so far are the cowgirl and the blue-haired girl with glasses. That is the impression I got at least.

[up] I guess I have my sneaking suspicions on them. Note, I might have had an exaggerated reaction to this episode, but really, episode 2 makes me wonder how many actually decent human beings are in that island.

From what I've seen there's at least one more that we haven't met yet. You know, the one paired up with cowgirl in the opening?

Well, we've only seen people from the 'upper' class. Is likely that those not affiliated with Welter are more reasonable

So everyone in the school-castle's a jerk too? That's great.

That was some weird animation on that Lady J and Rain kiss scene.

[up][up]Not counting Saejima, Nikui nor Charlotte. The Welter people seem to be decent if somewhat insensitive about the stuf beyond the routine. Something expected on a setting where someone's worth can be quantified.

I just noticed that all the stablished pairings (Mirei/Mamori, Lady Lady and maybe Torino/Meifong) have eye and hair colors reversed. Very curious.

Er... Hold the phone...

So Mirei and Mamori are a team now. And because of that, they'll now be treated as enemies of the state? ...Did I miss something? Charlottethe situation is quite...confrontational. Unnecessarily so, I think. If it was that bad for them to team up, why send them to the same island in the first place...?

Also, I wonder if everyone on Mermaid Island(and the other islands) got sent there via the Torpedo Express.tongue

It seems becoming enemies from the state is more Charlotte throwing a fit at their defiance. A classic "if you aren't with us, you are against us" sort of deal.

Said that, is possible Akira and Kasumi are getting cold feet over the possibility of Mirei being the fabled "soldier"

Someone translated this week's episode of the radio show

In this week radio they reveal that the production for this show were ahead by few months. They finished recording all of the episode since May this year.

In the free talk corner they talked about the time when they recorded the show. The V As that voiced the soldiers in Mirei's flashback and Mamori's father would excuse themselves from recording booth when they dont have lines. Iguchi said it was because most of the V As are female and they like to get too fired up talking amongst themselves. Also she basically confirmed that there will be no male character that will appear later.

They also talked about Torino's VA, Kikuko-neesan, and how she made the atmosphere in the recording booth very warm and welcoming, just like Torino herself. Apparently Kikuko-neesan did the 17 years old joke whenever they do roll call before recording. Iguchi said the moment where they retort to the joke with the "oi-oi" was the part that pump her up for the day. Also Mamori's VA, Izawa Mikako haven't told her Mom about her role as Mamori.

In the mail corner someone asked them to practice to tell Izawa's Mom about the show. Iguchi impersonation of Izawamama were funny as heck. Izawamama is someone that is motherly and would eat snack at three in the morning. Iguchi suggest to tell Izawamama about it when she was snacking so maybe she wouldn't really pay attention to what Izawa's saying. Izawa said that's not good at all.

It was very fun. I really recommend it to people that like to hear silly stuff.

Here's the link http://hibiki-radio.jp/description/vdm

Usually someone would upload the episode to niconico after few hours. Niconico is also the only place you can hear old episode of the radio.

I finished both episodes so far. I can't like Mamori as a protagonist because she's such a Wet Blanket Wife. The other characters are all good luckily for me. Mirei is cool, and I'm interested in her backstory and like how the exposition of it was handled.

[up][up]Yeah, Mamori is a little annoying right now, but to be fair it's only been a day since she landed on the island so I'm willing to give her time to adjust. Maybe she'll get better.

I hope so. There's nothing of value in a protag that refuses to have anything to do with all the interesting things of the setting.

Comes complete with GLARE.

Watched the 2nd. Charlotte's more of a jerk than previously implied.

Past!Mirei's Queen's Blade style armor aside, the story's getting more interesting, but the school having psychopaths for "trainers" just makes me want the story's resolution (and/or the school's destruction) to come sooner.

I was expecting Mamori to be annoying this episode, going by what was said here, but I found myself warming up to her instead. There really hasn't been enough time for her to start coping with her situation, so it's understandable that all she wants to do is not fight (realizing you have a virus that turns you into a weapon is kind of horrifying, especially if you oppose violence), not get called "virgin", not get killed, and get off the island. We're still getting plenty of exposition regarding the world despite Mamori's attempts to distance herself from it.

I also just liked how she accepted Mirei at the end. It was pretty sweet.

Ok, there's one thing that makes no sense. Why did Charlotte and co appear to fall for Mirei's lie about being responsible for taking the clothes? They know she's only been on the island for two days, whereas this was apparently an ongoing problem. Or is she so valuable to them that they're willing to let the real culprit run off while they capture her?

Haven't seen the episode myself, but since it seems Charlotte has it out for our protags, I assume that it's the latter.
