Starkiller Base eating the sun wouldn't create that much shade. I daresay that's the hottest burn I've seen since Anakin on Mustafar.

A thought that came to me on a walk yesterday: anyone else think it'd be kind of interesting if, assuming the final battles are Luke vs. Snoke and Rey vs. Kylo, Snoke goes down pretty much instantly (he is said to be terrified out of his mind of Luke), while Rey vs. Kylo is the true climax and far more physically and emotionally demanding?

As long as Luke has some sort of culmination to his lifelong journey, whether it's emotional or physical. I'd hate for a lame fight to be the climax of Luke's story.

That said, I would like to see what Luke is capable of as a Jedi Master, versus another powerful force user.

Something about Snoke just says "Disc-One Final Boss" to me but I can't put my finger on what.

What I really want to see from Luke is an alignment flipped version of the Darth Vader scene from Rogue One.

Luke going up a significant contingent of First Order troops, maybe even a few of the Knights of Ren, by himself and then not only wins, but nothing the First Order does even slows him down. By the end of it the First Order is completely routed.

If the idea that the "It's time for the Jedi to end" line is very early on in the movie where Luke is really depressed, then perhaps a scene like the one I described could be used to illustrate him fully breaking out of hid depression and embracing being a Jedi Master.

Yeah that's also something I'd highly enjoy. A scene Luke goes to battle and you can see every member of the First Order just backing away in sheer dread when he arrives before he utterly demolishes them all without breaking stride.

I want a repeat of Yoda vs. Ob I-Wan vs. Anakin (so Luke vs. Noke and Rey vs. Kylo Ren) but I want it to be as mind-blowingly awesome as Yoda vs Palpatine was.

Part of me wants a holocron of Palpatine to show up at some point, if only because I want to see Ian Mcdiarmid chew entire sets to bits again.

More Ian McDermid would be cool, but I thought Darth Sideous was the sort who didn't give a crap about leaving a legacy behind, because he just wanted to live forever.

So instead of leaving behind holocrons, I'd expect him to leave behind Sith traps disguised as holocrons that let him possess the body of whoever activated the trap. If such a thing were possible in Star Wars.

I didn't write any of that.

[up]Very possible-in Legends, there were a huge number of Sith creations that allowed them to possess someone-like the muur talisman, and Sidious imprinted himself on at least one holocron. When Darth Krayt opened a holocron to call on the spirits of Sith Lords for guidance; they chewed him out as an unworthy successor and tried to kill him, warping his armor to imprison him and break his mind.

Regarding a Luke-powered massacre...

Well, I want him to prove that he's capable of that, but rather wouldn't. Like, he can plow straight through anything the First Order throws at him, but still offers mercy to his enemy, even at the risk of his own life.

Falrinn Since: Dec, 2014
#2163: May 5th 2017 at 7:35:28 AM

[up] To be absolutely clear, I don't think he should be killing people who are surrendering or fleeing during such a scene. However First Order is fanatical enough that there should be no shortage of individuals who are still actively trying to kill him well after it's obvious to an outside observer what the outcome of the confrontation is going to be.

I also agree he should show mercy. But I want to see him fight. This isn't the time for pacificism, Luke, the genocidal empire is at your doorstep and has already wiped out one planet. Get on the fucking program, mate.

Mercy isn't exactly Luke's thing, except where family is concerned. I mean, he's a nice guy and all, but he's very much a "you made your choice, now die for it" sort of person.

When he says "that was your last mistake" he damn well means it.

Film Luke was always in the Good Is Not Soft middle between the literary extremes of Martial Pacifist early Legends Luke and The Chessmaster Good Is Not Nice late Legends Luke.

Yeah, in Return of the Jedi he was fully willing to negotiate with Jabba but was fully willing to break out the lightsaber when necessary.

ROTJ was the pinnacle of Luke as a character. I'm kind of worried that TLJ Luke will be written through too much of a mopey Darker and Edgier lens and written in a maudlin fashion.

Nah, I doubt it. Rian Johnson's said that Luke is such an fan favorite as well as the emotional center on which TLJ is based on. Plus, Daisy Ridley was geeking out early last year while TLJ was shooting and she said in an interview that "Luke is so cool in Episode 8!!' that I'm not worried at all.

Coolness is a matter of opinion... but that said, I'm still cautiously optimistic. Mostly because Mark Hamill himself is such a cool guy his awesomeness spills over into any character he portrays. I have little to no doubt that no matter what characterization for Luke TLJ goes with, Hamill can sell it like a champ.

Regarding Luke in action: I was always a fan of how Tim Zhan depicted him in his novels - he always preferred peaceful solutions, but when push came to shove he was very swift about ending a fight decisively.
