The Word of God has spoken about the crew's anime counterparts:
- One is Rock
- Two is Motoko Kusanagi
- Three is Sakata Gintoki
- Four is Lelouch
- Five is, unsurprisingly, Ed
- Six is Jet Black
- The Android is Astro Boy.
So season 2 premiered last night. and it feels like this season won't drag as much as the first.
A bit of a surprise at the end though.. Jace Corso comes back and shoots One. I wouldn't mind if he stayed dead
Currently looking like One is still dead. If they're really going with that, I think he was the best choice, but I wouldn't have a problem if they revealed it was a trick. One was the least interesting of the crew, but he was still better than I expected for his archetype.
It looks like One is dead for real but they seem to be setting up Jace Corso as a villian I'm not sure how I feel about the Android's or Six's plotline yet. Also, the parallels were more obvious back in season 1, but I'm getting a distinct Firefly vibe from lots of the characters, which I'm not complaining about

One is dead? Awesome!!!!
You know what? I find it hilarious.
People hated him so much (but yeah, he was something of a fedora) that your reaction is predictable. I find that petty hate funny.
Also, once again a remark from my Season 1 review, "Whenever you need a crew member thrown against the wall, Three's there." checked out.
On to S02E03!
EDIT: One thing though. If the showrunner intends the real Jace Corso to pull a Grant Ward for some strange reason, I'm gonna lose my shit. Seriously, that one doesn't make sense here.

"what the complete, unabridged, 4k ultra HD fuck with bonus features" - Mark Von LewisThree really hit the nail on the head in episode 5 when he called out One for being an arrogant s.o.b who hides behind humility.
Thank God, the showrunner DIDN'T pull a Grant Ward.
Also, Android update was one of the funniest things this season.
"what the complete, unabridged, 4k ultra HD fuck with bonus features" - Mark Von LewisWatching her try to get arrested was the funniest moment this season imo
Yes, that's a part of the update!
Also, I'm pestering the showrunner about Five's hair. I'm not sure whether it's Fridge Logic or Fridge Brilliance.
"what the complete, unabridged, 4k ultra HD fuck with bonus features" - Mark Von LewisYou mean the fact that it came through with the clone? Because that could easily go either way. It could be dyed, or it could be that someone got bored sometime in the last few centuries and slipped some genes for green hair into the population. It's not like hair color is complicated. Hell, maybe her hair dye is just organic enough to make it through.
Yeah. I say it's some genetweak.
Also, as for that last episode... What the hell did they bring with them?
"what the complete, unabridged, 4k ultra HD fuck with bonus features" - Mark Von LewisWell I think I'm gonna call that the Mirror Universe episode. I hope they don't go back very often though. It got old in DS 9 after the 2nd time
I don't think they're going to return to the Mirror Universe anytime soon. The prime Blink Drive is fucked, Mirror Mikkei have to figure out how to recreate that toasted control card, Raza Prime stole the Mirror Universe's Blink Drive and apparently brought someone back from the Mirror Universe by accident.
"what the complete, unabridged, 4k ultra HD fuck with bonus features" - Mark Von LewisI think the implication was that someone hitched a ride into the Prime universe. But at the same time, getting back was surprisingly easy and I think that was weird. When they got into the mirror universe there were sparks and damage and etc, but when they came back it seemed like a normal jump, which opens the door to back-and-forth travel on a regular basis. The tech might be rare but the Raza's trip basically proved that it was made for universe jumping. I'm fine with that as a side effect of improper use, but as programmers say, any well definied bug is a feature
This series is getting weirder and weirder. After mirror universe, we got goopy tentacled mind control alien things and Android possibly being imprinted with someone's personality. Or dreaming of electric sheep.
"what the complete, unabridged, 4k ultra HD fuck with bonus features" - Mark Von LewisThe X-Files' black oil has come out of retirement
That one was... unusual.
At first, I suspected that Victor was behind it, mostly because we don't know him and his dream incarnation was trying to hold the Android in the dream. So the real explanation was plausible, but unsatisfactory.
"what the complete, unabridged, 4k ultra HD fuck with bonus features" - Mark Von LewisWhat the fuck happened.
Four just went full-on Ottoman Sultan there.
"what the complete, unabridged, 4k ultra HD fuck with bonus features" - Mark Von LewisI took it as a big, bloody Fuck You to the Seers' prophecy. Their predictions can't exactly come to pass if just about everyone involved with them is dead.
Sure, but when Hiro bit it, I was a little surprised. However, I said "Ottoman Sultan" for a reason: murdering younger brothers and their families was a SOP in the Ottoman Empire since it removed pretenders that could be used by court factions to topple the ruler.
One thing doesn't check out in the prophecy, though: if post-wipe Four killed Akita, why would he merely exile the Empress Dowager when he had such a massive grudge against her?
"what the complete, unabridged, 4k ultra HD fuck with bonus features" - Mark Von LewisThe Seers probably thought his time with the Raza crew made him more merciful. Honestly I was surprised that he made the kill order that large and specific with two words
One word. "Korose".
That and Hansmeed caught a big fat Idiot Ball there. With his face, no less. He was so preoccupied with getting his hands on Nyx that he tried to brown-nose his way out of a blatantly inescapable situation, instead of noticing the writing on the wall and bailing out before Ryo had the entire palace guard on his side.
"what the complete, unabridged, 4k ultra HD fuck with bonus features" - Mark Von LewisNext season, Four is so totally gonna get nuked.
"what the complete, unabridged, 4k ultra HD fuck with bonus features" - Mark Von Lewis
Well, nope. What I have in mind is that the showrunner explained Six's motive on his blog, but not in the series proper, and same thing happened to the explanation where the medallion came from.
Basically, there's a deleted scene - a flashback to what happened before the memory wipe, tied to the plot of the first two episodes. It was supposed to serve as the explanation: before the memory wipe, The Raza intercepted Hrothgar's ship, killed his men and stole the shipment of guns that they later gave to the miners. In that flashback, One is shown taking the medallion, that he later finds in the first episode.
Also, shooting for Season 2 is underway, and this week they're working on a prison riot scene for episode 2x02.
