I'm sorry I ever doubted him. This was the teaching I wanted instead of only lol you suck.
Haha, cry more though.
Episode 3: Actually, is this "Whiplash?"
Yeeeah, none of those are 90 second laps. 90 seconds is actually a sprint. I ran 90 second laps when I raced 800 meters (I wasn't fast at all, but I still trained for it). I have nightmares where something is chasing me and I can only run as fast as Sapphire. Like wading through water...Band geeks.
Well, he's at least a good gym/yoga teacher.
They should have chosen the fun option. If they had chosen the fun option, they would have gotten the fun teacher.
He probably really did teach gym or yoga before.
"I said why do you ride a bike to school when taking your broom would be so much faster!" Is what he should have said.
They're not crap all of a sudden.
Loves feel-good animation a whole lot.You mean Episode 4.
Oh yeah.
Loves feel-good animation a whole lot.And much like Haruhi and K-On before it, we get profiles for the Brass Orchestra members. All of them.
Here ya go. Loads and loads of them.◊ Though as usual, I expect detailed profiles (ala the classmates of Yui) as BR extras.
I fear the day Kyo Ani stops being Awesome.
The marching uniform.
...........Damn.
I'm a (socialist) professional writer serializing a WWII alternate history webnovel.Sapphire's mental image of her playing the contrabass at the marching band is just too cute.
The cut when Reina smiled is some top-notch animation. Can't say the same to the backgrounds in that same scene, though (they're too blurry and clashes with the crisp characters).
Rydeen, The song played by Kitauji's marching band.
My only complaint is the marching band segment cut short.
Interesting bit of info from book readers, but apparently what they play in the book is Can't Buy Me Love by the Beatles.
And Rikka High is apparently based on Kyoto Tachibana High School, a powerhouse in the real world with regards to their Marching Band. They're actually nicknamed "The Orange Demons" as a result.
More RL Kyoto Tachibana:
So we're continuing with the idea that they're somehow super-competent after practicing for a bit. That said, most of the episode's focus seemed to be on how incredibly pretty the cast is and the yuri subtext
Also, wow, so no one here even noticed the meaning behind Gouta-sempai's little talk about he likes the tuba? :P
Increased lung capacity or something?
I'm amazed that +50 students managed to play with such precision after a week. Or maybe they weren't that spectacular, and it just sounded good to me because I've never been in a band before.
There's something insignificant written here, but because it's insignificant, you didn't read it.It IS an underdog story and those are always a BIT unbelievable at least.
... I'm paying too much attention to the incredible animation to notice the subtlties others notice with the characters interactions. I need to see these more than once.
@Myssa: Oh, you ain't the only one who's expecting some love between them.
Nice finds.
It feels a little unrealistic for them to sound that good when they sucked balls before, but they are also highly motivated, which is good for them.
So nice job band and teacher.
Well, the newbies like Hazuki are doing the "mystery steps". Everyone else has had quite a bit of experience playing their instruments I assume, they were either just practising wrong or not practising at all before...
Man, this show can really visually articulate a teenager's first major crush.
What's precedent ever done for us?Wow, that Kousaka vogue shot.
And Taki-sensei, I'll follow you anywhere.
heh◊

I'm hesitant to assume Kousoka is following Taki-sensei. For one, the show hasn't yet shown any solid confirmation that she is. Two, while he IS very good-looking, ..... so is everyone else, which automatically makes me negate it despite a ton of female students talking about his looks.
The band is playing an arrangement of a 70s Japanese synthpop song. Ok.
That was a very emphasised, dramatic shot when Kumiko brought it up, though. Now, it might have been jealousy (notice the way they were subtly checking each other out during the uniform fitting), but there's a lot of evidence that she's hot for teacher and doesn't like being rumbled.
Speaking of, when do we recategorise the Les Yay to Homoerotic Subtext? Because yeah, I know "Romantic" Two-Girl Friendship is a thing in Japan, but it's getting pretty blatant.
What's precedent ever done for us?All that matters is that green-haired girl got a speaking role. Best part of the episode.
I'm pretty sure the concept of Law having limits was a translation error. -WanderlustwarriorThat's the first arc, I guess. And they're showing off the animation.
The marching uniforms are kawaii as fuck. >_>
They have people in the band acting as cheerleaders and not playing their instruments? It definitely looks cool, but it seems unfair.
Personally, I just find this anime kind of boring, I'm used to more energetic comedy anime with heavy shades of moe, and Iyashikei and this isn't either it's just...pretty realistic life situations. The "deep" stuff it may or may not be going for goes over my head too. I'll keep watching it though. It's still nice to watch.
I haven't seen anything blatant...but I'm used to shows with much stronger yuri overtones, like canon, explicitly demonstrated girl-crushes even if they never amount to anything.
Loves feel-good animation a whole lot.
By the way, I think we should put in at least a Trivia section to the page now, given the musical and RL references that are piling up.
Also, an online friend who plays the trombone says that to be terrible is to be expected if you've only just barely chosen your instruments, and the improvement shown by the school in one week might as well be considered Instant Expert for brass band measures.

Hey, at least he helped them out this entire week instead of leaving them to their own devices.
I don't know if he did it on purpose or not, but that's a nice Zero-Approval Gambit he pulled there.
