Looks like some people have gotten their hands on the second VN and uhhh... It's SFW, but it's reaaallly pushing it. (they're skimpy maid uniforms, if you're curious)

Also Sonoko's got some decent urban development of her own.

...The most surprising thing is, I don't think I've ever seen a skimpy maid uniform before. Despite anime's obsession with putting girls in bikinis or maid outfits, it's rarely both.

It's rather unnecessary, but it seems everything with girls in it gets shameless at some point. (Is this for a school festival or something? Why would they be allowed to dress like that?)

[up]No clue, although the first VN had the swimsuit mode so the VN's being more lewd is nothing new. I'm still not sure about the context since there haven't been any translations yet; I think the pictures are just people in Japan posting on other sites.

Meanwhile, we also have this (very SFW) gem. For those who don't understand, that's Yuna and Togo as traditional Shinto bride and groom (presumably from the Our Future scenario, which is about the Hero Club helping out with a wedding).

I'd be surprised, but I'm pretty sure all pretense of subtext pretty much disappeared around when the Vita game had Togo joke about a love confession and made the both of them get flustered.

More Stuff:

  • The Brother is Coming! event involves Harunobu announcing an inspection. The Hero Club is worried that the Taisha are going to relocate Karin, and they all make a video showing how important Karin is to them. Sadly Harunobu doesn't show up in person, but he does send lots of hilariously embarrassing family pictures though. The fact that he held onto them for so long shows that he actually cares a lot about his little sister. Even at the tender age of 4, you could already see Karin's tsun traits developing.

  • The first event is basically Sonoko After from Sonoko's point of view. She also talks about some of the fairies she had:
    • Kurasa Tengu, a mischievous long-nosed bird-man who can teleport, appears in dreams and is good at martial arts
    • Baku, a dream-eating tapir
    • Makura Gaeshi, a ghost that haunts your bedroom and while you're sleeping, takes the pillow from your head and puts it at your feet.

  • One event involves Yuna receiving a mysterious love letter. Yuna is really surprised and flustered, saying "I'm not as beautiful as Sonoko or Togo or as cute as Itsuki, as cool as Karin or as mature as Fu." Surprisingly, it isn't Togo (Yuna's voice actress had said that Togo was probably the type to confess to someone directly) but it was from another girl. Apparently Togo wanted to have a "talk" with the sender. Fu also remarks how Yuna is surprisingly a loser when it comes to her own love.

  • Itsuki gives Togo and Yuna a love charm, and almost immediately afterward they become locked in a classroom, forcing them to hold hands for warmth. The next day Togo brags to Fu and Karin about the effectiveness of Itsuki's charm, and Karin secretly goes to Itsuki to ask for a charm to raise her compatibility with Yuna; instead, she gets stuck eating udon with Fu with only one set of chopsticks, "forcing" Karin to feed Fu udon.

  • Apparently the Our Future event involves the girls helping to promote a wedding place by handing out pamphlets and stuff. They want to reward the girls' hard work, and Sonoko suggests Yuna and Togo do a wedding shoot.

Sorry for the third post in a row, but for anyone who cares I should probably mentioned that I've renamed the page name to Yuki Yuna is a Hero (with a moderator's blessing, of course). I'm also gonna create a Ho Yay subpage because quite honestly, it needs one.

I agree that the ending is rushed, but the more I think back on it the more I'm okay with it. Sonoko After existing and a sequel anime being extremely likely do help a lot though.

Also, Itsuki's line at the end of the fortune-telling event:

"I mean, aren't love charms normally for improving the relationship between a boy and a girl?"

You're killing me Itsuki

I was expected something like Madoka since I felt that ending was just perfect.

So it also baffles me that they had a wealth of material that you and others mentioned that would have made a more meaty ending like Sonoko refusing to help out Taisha and anything regarding Taisha that wasn't added. Something that would have benefited it but they didn't.

It's puzzling, but I'm fine with the new material.

Madoka was definitely more economical in terms of series planning: there's not a lot of fat in its 12 episodes, and that translates to a more organic growth.

Yu Yu Yu could have been made a bit tighter, given the material planned — but I guess the whole idea was to have various other media to integrate the anime all along.

[up]This, YuYuYu was always intended as a multimedia project of sorts, which would normally suck but the YuYuYu fanbase on /a/ is really fast to translate things for some reason. I think they've already fully translated one of the second VN's events.

Also, I think that part of it was Gokumi not expecting the series to be so successful, seeing as how it had so many stocking problems since Episode 8. They may not have planned on doing a sequel at first, but its become their most successful series.

I really wish I was around when Madoka was airing, that must've been an amazing time.

[up][up][up][up]Yeah, like the others said thanks for posting the summaries and other info, it's appreciated.

On another note, the Vita game and this VN in particular are making it seem like Yuna has some serious self esteem issues which she usually hides. That'd be sad enough if she hadn't saved the world, but taking that into consideration makes it even worse. Poor kid.

Don't thank me, thank the people on /a/ who actually take the time to translate everything. I just transfer that info here.

Also, thought people might like to see Karin's dialogue from her childhood video:

"Looky looky! I can swim now-!"

"Soon I'll be able to swim better than you, Onii-chan!"

"And then... even Mom and Dad will..."

"I'm doing secret special training, so go away, Onii-chan!"

"Watermelon!? I can have watermelon!?"

"No... that's okay. If I eat your share, they'll get mad at me..."

"Go away already! I'm playing by myself."

"I-I'm not lonely at all! Hmmmph!"

Harunobu seems like a nice guy but their parents seem like they weren't too kind to Karin

...Ah, yes. I had something to say about that...

It seems as if happy-go-lucky characters have to have self-esteem issues, or tragic backstories. Why can't they just be happy without any sort of baggage, darn it!?

We don't actually know much about Yuna's past, now that I think about it. I believe she mentioned in the first visual novel that she had had a big fight with a friend in elementary school and that friend later moved to another town, but then she patched it up with them. She also mentioned in the Vita game that Togo "saved" her in the past (Yuna didn't seem to have any other friends other than Togo before they joined the Hero Club, and even Togo was a bit uncomfortable with Yuna's touchy-feelyness at first). She's pretty similar in character (and choice of fighting style) to Hibiki Tachibana, and Hibiki turned out to be hiding a truly horrible past. I'm hoping we'll learn more in a Season 2.

Of course, the love letter event in the second visual novel also shows that Yuna is just completely clueless when it comes to love in general; Fu even called her a loser in regards to her own love. Apparently Yuna turned the letter-sender down, but "we became friends, so it was great!"

Also, Itsuki's love charm requires the recipient to recite "Love Love Zu-kyun~! May your love pierce the heart!~!" Here's the event transcript if anyone is interested (it's formatted a bit weird, but its still very readable) http://pastebin.com/CsYip4ne

Some more information about VN2 (I'll just edit this if I get more)

  • Like the first VN, opening it on certain dates (like birthdays) will cause one of the girls to say a special message. Some known ones are:
    • 2 July (Udon Day): Fu says, "Everyone! Today's Udon Day! Udon Day!! Let's eat a lot!"
    • 10 July (Anniversary of Gin's Death): Sonoko says, "Gin, Wasshi and I are... friends forever." note
    • 30 August (Sonoko's Birthday): Togo says, "Today is Sonocchi's birthday, be sure to remember!"
    • 9 September (Fortune-telling Day): Itsuki says, "Did you know everyone? Today is Fortune-telling Day!"
    • 24 December (Christmas Eve): Karin says, "When I woke up, there was a present under my pillow. Santa... was here!?"
    • 25 December (Christmas Day): Yuna says, "Karin-chan was really happy about the present I left under her pillow as a surprise. I'm glad."

Why can't they just be happy without any sort of baggage, darn it!?

Gatchaman Crowds had a protagonist like that, but it made people decide she was a Mary Sue, so that's probably why. (I thought she was more of a classic-Superman kind of character, an intentionally idealized role model, but then nobody likes that sort of thing these days.)

Oh oh, as for Togo's and Karin's reactions to Yuna receiving a love letter...

Karin gets as flustered as any true Tsundere, and tries to play it off but warns Yuna not to respond as it's probably "some no-good guy."

Togo, after recovering from becoming completely non-functional after Yuna reads the letter, responds:

"To make fun of pure Yuna-chan... they deserve death. Let's search for the sender and tortu- um, carry out an investigation."

A girl, apparently.

Luckily Yuna was able to resolve it herself without anyone getting shot. She turned her down, but according to her "we became friends, so everything worked out for the best!"

Oh Yuna...

EDIT: According to a snippet of an interview that just got translated, the Shinju decided to change the system not only because of Yuna's bravery, but also because Togo scared the shit out of him (it?).

There is also a YuYuYu livestream event on Nico on 12 June, whose content so far is unknown.

A new Light Novel has been announced

The title is Nogi Wakaba wa Yuusha de aru. Apparently it will be a prequel to Washio Sumi. Ii's stated to be about the "first generation" of heroes, and judging from Wakaba's family name I think its safe to say that she's Sonoko's ancestor. It's set to come out on 30 July.

Also Wakaba apparently will have 4 teammates although only 2 have been named: Doi Tamako and Takashima Yuuna. I'm going to guess that the shared name with our protagonist is not a coincidence.

There will also still be a separate LN chapter set after Sonoko After later this month.

Looks like some spoilers have surfaced about the bonus LN chapter. From what I've seen, it mostly focuses on the upcoming Nogi Wakaba Light Novel:

  • Sonoko finds an old Hero Record book inside of her house
  • Although the book is heavily censored by the Taisha (typical), she finds a picture of a girl who looks an awful lot like her:
  • The girl's name is Wakaba Nogi, and the picture is dated 2015 (Anno Domini, so this is before the Shinju came).
  • When Sonoko shows the picture to the rest of the Hero Club, Yuna seems to react strangely to it. In a picture of them all looking at the photo, Yuna is described as having her eyes hidden.

According to another spoiler, it may be possible that Yuna is 0% human.

EDIT: Color picture of Wakaba and the NoWaYu logo. Apparently the full list of members of the First Hero Team are Wakaba Nogi, Hinata Kamisato, Yuuna Takashima, Chikage Gun, Tamako Doi and Anzu Iyoshima.

Also apparently in the beginning of the chapter Sonoko talks about what kind of person she "likes." [[spoiler:She basically describes Wasshi exactly]
