When Dueling Shows seem too one-sided

As some of you already know, there is thing that fans do: Comparing two shows that they believe are similar. But what happens when said comparisons seem too one-sided? When one show isn't given the respect it deserves?

For example:

Xiaolin Showdown and Avatar: The Last Airbender have often been compared, and no matter what, Avatar is always considered the better show. Now, i'm not saying that that statement is wrong, in fact, given the evidence to support it, it's hard to deny. But in spite of all that, i still think that Xiaolin Showdown could have been at least almost as good if given the attention that it deserved. Instead, the show started out as kind of serious, but slowly turned into a comedy (not a bad comedy and not one without some good action scenes, but still).

I myself have often compared Teen Titans to Ben 10, but it feels like Ben 10 was given more attention and originality to its story. Teen Titans seemed more limited, while Ben 10 had an entire universe worked out for it.

Recently, i've even gone as far as to compare American Dragon: Jake Long to Kim Possible, but no matter who i ask, the answer is always the same: Kim Possible was better, and this time, i can't really see the logic behind it. American Dragon: Jake Long did feel pretty rushed at times, but it still felt somehow more serious and dark than Kim Possible.

I'd be more than happy to use the example of Adventure Time and Regular Show vs. Sanjay and Craig and Breadwinners.

[up]1. Wouldn't Regular show vs. Sanjay and Craig make more sense?

2. Isn't this a little of a complaint thread?

^^ I'm getting that impression too, yeah. Is the point of this thread just to talk about how much better (or worse) we think some shows are than other shows?

Is there a way to not make it a complaint thread?

You could make it about whether or not it makes sense to claim 2 shows are compatible for the Dueling Shows trope or not, with the idea being does it make sense to say if they are identical shows competing with each other or not.

Using your example of Xiaolin Showdown and Avatar The Last Airbender, both shows could be described under the simple moniker of "Action cartoons about teenagers controlling the elements to save the world from evil" if you didn't want to get into the actual premise of either show. Both have different plots and goals, so my above description was literally the closest you can come to comparing the 2.

" but it still felt somehow more serious and dark than Kim Possible."

Whoa Whoa that does not make the show better. American Dragon Jake Long was an irritating, insufferable, obnoxious series. Kim Possible was a lot of fun and fairly clever for its intended demographic.

Also don't dueling shows have to usually be shows that came out around the same time? A:TLA came around right when Xiolin Showdown was at the end of its run and Ben 10 was after or toward the end of Teen Titans' run.

Completely subjective.

I dunno, I feel like American Dragon's first season was really kinda lame and incredibly cliche at times, but the second season did a lot to fix the show's issues by adding a lot more humornote , expanding on the characters, changing the art style to one that was more visually striking, and having much better pacing in general to each episode.

Insert witty 'n clever quip here.

[up]And then they had to rush the ending arc because Disney says "Fuck you!" to episode counts above 65.

Okey-dokey. This is just a complaining thread. Locking it up.
