So bit of a random thought, but you really do find the most interesting things form the most unexpected sources.

First was that some one decided to illustrate Ryoubi's ending from Shinobi Versus where she uses... something, I don't have enough info, to make her breasts grow, only to reach ridiculous sizes (Ryouna calls them "Z-Cup"). The guy draws large breasts if that wasn't clear.

And from the comments of the picture I discovered her ending in Bon Appetit where She refuses to use Wish-Granting Scroll because she thinks that it would be cheating, and instead tries to follow Murasaki's diet of junk food to grow her breasts, only for the weight to go to her belly.

I am half-expecting the next ending for her to involve having her rear get bigger.

[up][up]I just assumed Murakumo lived in the slums before being adopted by the head of said corporation... From what we know about her, it fits perfectly without needing to be outright stated.

So I finally finished Gessen's route and well, it was bad. At least it wasn't offensively bad as Hebijo but still, a serious stepdown over Burst's plot.

Kurokage is a terrible character and what was the point of killing him (specially to pull that ghost nonsense at the end)? I believe that have the Gessen learn and actually talk things with him would've been way better.

As whole, Gessen never become appealing to me. They're just so generic.

Yumi is boring but at least she had a character arc unlike Miyabi, Yozakura is forgettable, Minori during gameplay is adorable but on th plot is infuriating. Shiki is the one solid character but she's dragged down by the valley girl talk.

And Murakumo, good god, she's the living proof of Versus' plot being a trainwreck. They tried to mix Ikaruga and Yomi's backstories but it was so sloppily done that it doesn't make a lick of sense, why she was on th slums despite being the heir of a powerful corporation?, who the hell is this father she calls? it can't be her own since he kicked the bucket when she was kid. And yes, I'm aware that it could be her foster father but a line clarifying this was nowhere to be found. Her reasons to fight Ikaruga are really stupid and her shtick becomes old pretty fast.

The story itself is also filled with plotholes or event that come from nowhere, why they defied Hebijo? How they knew Hebijo's location on the first place? Or Homura's team's? How the hell the didn't catched up that Hanzo and Wang Pai were the same dude? and so on...

Seriously, if Versus would've been my first experience with Senran Kagura I would dropped the series without a second thought, everything is so...shallow and in some points, mediocre.

Here's hoping that Crimson's Squad story is at the level of Burst's (they've always been the highlight of the other stories so I'm confident they will salvage the game somewhat).

...I guess this fits with the idea that the non-3DS titles are sillier. Although I've been under the impression that Team Gessen is really popular among the fans (with Yumi, Yozakura, and Murakumo being the top three if I recall). -shrug-

...Maybe I should just look for a Let's Play of Versus. At this rate, I may never get to play it. :/

Far as I can tell isn't that Gessen is popular, is Yumi who's the popular one (greatly influenced by her VA). Most of the cast is already pretty generic but Yumi struck me like being the most generic of the bunch. Asuka is other generic character on a vacuum but she shines due her interactions with the rest of the cast, Yumi never truly interacts with the Gessen girls outside of barking orders (in fact, Gessen and Hebijo lack from proper interaction within their own teams).

Estival's OVA webpage.

It has a PV without voice acting about it. It seems that it will follow the template of the anime specials, lots of eye candy with little to nothing plot. Somewhat dissapointing to be honest.

Are the graphics as bad as screenshots make it look? I'm mostly asking about Burst but 2 is a concern as well should that ever come to North America.

I actually think Burst looks fine, but I do feel that this series looks better in motion than in a screenshot. The main issue Burst has is that it's framerate is lower than most other 3DS titles, but that kind of thing usually doesn't bother me. And from what I've seen, the sequel doesn't have this issue.

[up][up]Eh... I'll forgive it just being a fanservice OVA just because it's based on the already-more-fanservice-laden Versus series... and it's an OVA.

Still, I'd fine to have something more substantial for the Versus' girls. The downgrade in animation quality doesn't do any favors either.

Oh I agree, but what can you do, eh? -shrug- Maybe the third manga of the series will get an animated adaptation... I hear that one's much more serious compared to the rest of the series.

On a different note, someone put this on the YMMV:

* Spiritual Licensee: Wait, you mean this isn't supposed to be a Kill la Kill game?
I know little about Kill la Kill (I've only watched the first episode), but aren't the themes in that show completely different from Senran Kagura's? From what I understand, Kill la Kill seems to be more about how social hierarchy and relying on appearances/clothing to judge people on is wrong, right? Or something like that (don't spoil too much of the show for me, I still plan to watch it at some point)... I don't think any of the SK games/manga touch upon this type of theme.

I have a feeling that someone just saw that both series have characters in fetishistic outfits, Clothing Damage, and deeper meanings/plots behind the fanservice that most people who only look at the surface miss out onnote  and thought that that was enough to link the two series'.

I'll be removing the example regardless because it's a poorly written one anyway (it doesn't explain what Kill la Kill is and how it and Senran Kagura are similar enough to tie it in with the trope). I just want to know if anyone here who has seen Kill la Kill can weigh in on this Spiritual Licensee thing.

I don't know much of SK, but I do know Kill la Kill, and as ridiculous as it is... it's not really comparable to SK.

To pity someone is to tell them "I feel bad about being better than you."

As some one who knows about Kill la Kill, not even close. For one, SK characters are, for the most part, decently clothed even after transformed.

[up] Wow. That sucks.

You know, being able to find a particular mission in Burst for story reasons is really annoying. I cannot find the mission where Homura's backstory is explained.

EDIT: And of course it has to be on the Hanzou side.

Yeah, it was told during Hibari's stint on Hebijo. On the actual Hebijo side you only got a side mission issued by the girl trying to get revenge on Homura.

Man, I just realized that the gameplay analysis and my OP are gonna be lost with the thread.

I just skimmed over that (will read it later when I have more time), but it looks like a really nice write-up. I'm kind of wondering what happened at that other forum you mentioned that made it get taken down...

Classic overzealous mod going on an anime hate craze (and spouting things like "stop posting your underaged fap material")

Hell, I was banned by asking an actual explanation for the closing and got support for many members.

And one mod felt offended or something from my post and erased the guide. What the hell.

So I put it on Gamefaqs

Yeah I saw that the post was gone when I came back to read it. I can't imagine why it'd be removed from a fan site...

Oh well, at least I have the guide from Game FA Qs now. Like I said before, good job on it; I'll be referring to it once I start playing Burst again.

... As I am watching the story of Shinovi Versus, it somehow made one of favourite things you could do in Burst into something dark. That is regarding giving Yagyuu and Mirai dual eyepatches, especially with the former. Though at least the game knowledge how silly it would look.

I finally finished Shinovi Versus.

As expected, the Crimson Squad story was the best story of the bunch and the one that reminded me why I fell in love with the series: excelent characterization, great character dynamics and an uplifting story.

However, this put the rest of the game on a worst light. They clearly had talented writers on the project but they just didn't care/half assed their work delivering some awfully mediocre story. Filled with stupid characters, plot holes and erratic pacing. And isn't like Crimson's Squad story is perfect either, the last chapter is by far the weakest of the bunch.

In what it seems the trend of the plot, every time Hebijo shows up writing quality drops like a rock. A shame since they have some really good moments with the Crimson Squad but well, is not enough for all the bull they deliver during the majority of the game.

A shame, since the scene where they recite their creed while fighting Youma was amazing (if poorly implemented) The scene would be so much better without Yumi and Miyabi.

Gameplay wise, there's a good game buried somewhere. But the good thing is overcome by the bad: terrible camera, stupid loading times, awfully designed enemies and in general a flawed game system.

Beating bosses without gettign hit and in record time might seem impressive but you can achieve it by turtling and then just use Ninpos like there's no tomorrow. Hardly a truly satisfactory experience.

...

Man, can't wait for Deep Crimson

As a side note, thanks to whoever managed to get the Hanzo and the Crimson Squad into the Pantheon [tup]

Their descriptions are hilarious and pretty creative.

First video of Estival actually running

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Gkrt0UOigbc

It leaves me with mixed feelings.

Character models are amazing but the backgrounds don't really take advantage of this being a game on PS 4 (something common on anime games I think) that while not a huge issue, is somewhat dissapointing.

Game is effectively a prettier Versus with SK 2's tag system added. But since it only shows the tutorial level you can't really get a clear idea of the gameplay. Story seems interesting enough but knowing that the twins (by far the worst characters introduced on Versus) have prominent roles it hurts my interest a little.

The dance number at the end while entertaining is hurt by the CG models hitting the uncanny valley, they should've stick with traditional animation.

All in all, a very underwhelming debut of the game.

[up][up][up]I think your reaction is what leads credence to the idea that the non-3DS titles don't take themselves as seriously when it comes to story. I mean, there's obviously serious moments of plot that happen, but for the most part it sounds like they didn't try as hard to make it more than an Excuse Plot. I've heard that the main problem with it is an overuse of I Am Not Left-Handed and The Battle Didn't Count, which makes it seem like Shinovi Versus is trying to hard to make you Remember the New Guy? and view the new girls as credible threats to the Hanzo students and Crimson girls.

...I still want the game anyway.

[up][up]Oh so that was you? I don't know what the Trope Pantheon is exactly (I've seen it on a few other work pages), but good job nonetheless. The descriptions were fairly amusing.

[up]A video I'll have to watch later. I'm not expecting much but it being a step-up from Shinovi Versus though.

I didn't think the twins were as popular as the other girls in their team, but I'm not surprised that they're getting some attention considering their dead sister is returning and she apparently had a massive effect on their lives.
