I think we can all agree that anime adapted from books generally have the best writing in the business - stuff like Shin Sekai Yori, Tatami Galaxy, Shiki, Legend of Galactic Heroes, Eccentric Family? All novel adaptions.
What I've found is that LN adaptations are particularly likely to be formulaic dreck, but that few that aren't are likely to be very good

Even in cases where the L Ns were surprisingly good, the anime adaption tried to turn it into formulaic dreck
I remember seeing a Terra Formars OVA(?) earlier this season. Is that an earlier adaption or are they related, because it was baaaaad. I mean, really, really bad.
Never watched a Gundam series. Hopefuly this will be a decent time to get a look at it.

The only proper reason to watch Terra Formars is for the hilarious racism.
What's precedent ever done for us?The fights are pretty good too.
I've got new mythological machinery, and very handsome supernatural scenery. Goodfae: a mafia web serialI will give it a chance because Hamasaki is directing and the man's sense of visual style is impeccable even in his worst work, but I will take that into consideration.
I'll hide your name inside a word and paint your eyes with false perception.Watched the trailer for it. Now how many time did NASA actually show up?
Here I go...
Definitely on my watch-list
- Cross Ange
- Gundam Build Fighters Try
- Gundam Reconguista in G
- Psycho-Pass 2
- Log Horizon 2
- Chaika- Avenging Battlenote
- WIXOSS- selector spread version
- Mushishi 2
- Fate/Unlimted Blade Works: First time seeing the main story adapted. This is gonna be fun.
Thinking about watching....
- Amagi Brilliant Park: It's Kyo Ani, and I can't seem to stop watching the studio's shows lately. Eh, whatever.
- Daitoshokan No Hitsujikai
- Danna Ga Nani O Itteiru Ka Wakaranai Ken
- Denki Gai No Honyasan
- Hi sCoool SeHa Girl
- Inou Battle Wa Nichijoukei No Naka De: I forgot to ask, is this Trigger's first adaptation of an existing work? Let me wish the team best wishes!
- Magic Kaitou: I wondering if I should watch this. It's in the same verse as Detective Conan, after all. And I haven't seen or read it in such a long time. Oh, I'm totally gonna flip out should I finally decide to move forward.
- Rage of Bahamut Genesis
- Shirabako
- Sora no Method
- Ushinawareta Mirai O Motomete
- Yuuki Yuuna wa Yuusha De Aru
- Parasyte
- Terra Formars
As always, this list will probably change. By getting bigger, more than likely.
Part of the problem with Light Novels is that they are an inherently serial medium. There's always a drive to find the next "hook" with every volume, and there's very little room for error unless the author is extraordinarily successful. The result is that most works spend their early volumes locked into a "girl-of-the-arc" format, only really hitting their stride after they've built up a fanbase loyal enough to tolerate any risks with the writing. Unfortunately for adaption-watchers, that point usually doesn't arrive until after the first two cours.
Of course, the other part of it is simply Sturgeon's Law and the fact that L Ns are both easy to adopt into anime and profitable enough to justify a low-cost adaption as advertising.
We're really doing this now? ...Eh, whatever. My list:
Actually excited for:
- Cross Ange: The pilot suits are ridiculous and ugly, but everything else appeals to me
- selector spread WIXOSS: I liked infected
- Sora No Method: Anime original, writer I like, looks yuri-ish. Yep, this appeals to me
Not excited about, but will give a look:
- Amagi Brilliant Park: What I read of the manga was unimpressive, but I think the premise has potential, and it's not going to be a straight adaptation
- Donten Ni Warau: What I've heard about it sounds okay, but I haven't heard much *shrug*
- Garo Honoo No Kokuin: Looks okay, and Garo is supposed to be one of the better toku franchises
- Grisaia No Kajitsu: The VN is supposed to be great, but nothing is pointing to the anime turning out well
- Gundam Reconguista In G: This'd be higher but everyone keeps talking about how the director is terrible
- Ore Twintail Ni Narimasu: Didn't like what I read of the LN, but I think it'll fare better as an anime
- Rage Of Bahamut Genesis: PV is impressive, and being based on a story-light game should give the writer plenty of room, but who knows
- Shirobako: Anime edutainment! Cute girls! ...And PA Works, who've yet to make anything I like
- Yuuki Yuuna Wa Yuusha De Aru: Promotional materials look good, but the staff is worrying
Morbid curiousity:
- Girl Friend Beta: I'm just curious as to what this'll be
- Inou Battle Wa Nichijoukei No Naka De: First I thought it had potential. Then the first PV looked like crap. Then the second looked like crap, but had good animation
Will look at if it gets good reviews and I'm short on stuff I like:
- Daitoshokan No Hitsujikai: Initially I was kind of interested in it, but then it turned out that it's using an art style that makes the characters look Off-Model when they're on model
- Fate Stay Night: Not terribly interested in UBW
- Gugure Kokkurisan: Pretty boys don't particularly appeal to me, and I didn't terribly enjoy the PV
- Madan No Ou To Vanadis: My initial impression was that it might be an aversion of the usual LN crap, but most of what I heard from other people suggested otherwise
- Parasyte: The manga is a classic, but I already read it
- Ushinawareta Mirai O Motomete: It sounded interesting, but then they released the key visual and it looked awful
Would be subject to change as we get more information, but I'm posting it now
Wait, MAPPA is doing Garo? Okay, now I know I'll at least give it a try.
All in all, i'm not particularly interested in the 'new' stuff in the upcoming season, buuut in terms of continuations for stuff that's already proven to be worth the time of day, it'll be pretty great I feel.
Watch List:
- Psycho-Pass 2
- Parasyte
- Fate/Stay Night
- Mushishi 2, if I manage to catch up

I'm really only interested in Fate/Stay Night since it's the follow up to Fate/Zero and the two Gundam series. Everything else is up in the air until Random Curiosity puts out their reviews for me to go through and gauge interest from. As is usual for me.

Only watching WIXOSS, Log Horizon, and Psycho-pass.
New PV for Cross Ange:
Sunrise being their usual self it seems.
Yet another Nu gundam ripoff.
First Jehutay and Anubis, then Nu 13, now in Cross Ange
Japan sure does love it.
Watch SymphogearCare to elaborate?
The wing fins on that one blue mech have been copied from the Nu Gundam time and time again in Japanese media.
Watch Symphogear@244: Looks more like Code Geass than ever. I approve.
Join my forum game!Like I said, Sunrise is still suffering from whatever symptoms CG left them with.
Really? Character interactions didn't seem very CG-ish to me. I'd go with the Mai franchise if we're sticking to Sunrise comparisons

Eh, LN adaptations don't tend to be any worse than manga adaptations.
