Good luck getting people to care.
I'm personally indifferent to the subject, but the aquisition is definitely going to make consumer confidence in it crash, burn, and die screaming. It already has for the most part. I don't see it lasting very long on the shelf after the first few initial releases.

"It's liberating, realizing you never need to be competent." — UltimatepheerI care enough about the Rift to see it reach the market and observe how it performs.
I got nothing against progress, but I feel like this OC business is a lot like 3D television: overly expensive, unwieldy and not quite what the consumers want.
I've got to second that. I mean it's sort of neat I suppose but I can't imagine it going anywhere
Oh really when?Eh, it won't any time soon, but it's another stepping stone to the idea of a Holodeck. I wouldn't use it, considering my idea of a game has a hell of a lot of buttons involved.
A GTX 970/ AMD 290, i5, 8 GB of RAM, compatible HDMI 1.3 video output, 3 USB 3.0 and 1 USB 2.0 port as well as Windows 7 Service Pack 1 or later is needed as well.
I think I've got everything but the graphics card and USB ports sorted, (well, I was acutely aware of my 860M's limitations on purchase day). I suppose Nvidia was talking to these guys on what was needed for VR?
My father is a lot more excited about Oculus Rift than I am. Well, here's hoping his hopes don't get sunk by this bit of news (He genuinely believes that VR can run on his i3's integrated graphics)...

I have disagreed with her a lot, but comparing her to republicans and propagandists of dictatorships is really low. - An idiotWorse for UK residents. 499 GBP plus 30 GBP shipping. That's $774 in USD.
It's a bundle that comes with a Xbone controller and two games.
According to Lucky Palmer, the Oculus Rift is obscenely low priced.
Obscenely low priced, huh? This is what my friend in Norway saw◊ when he tried to place his pre-order.
To be fair, we thought someone forgot to put the decimal in initially. He did try to make his order just after it went up. Though, when I saw the price, I saw $599.

We are all made of star stuff. Very, very weird star stuff. The funny thing is those prices aren't even complete. The Oculus Rift requires a rather powerful PC - at least an nvidia geforce 970 (or equivalent) card or higher. The refresh rate (75 hertz minimum) on the device requires one to be able to maintain a 90 FPS frame rate. Getting a Rift and using it isn't cheap.
I actually wonder how many developers are going to work to provide for a peripheral where the barrier to entry is so high. That's not even counting how some developers already aren't fond of PC gaming in general because they see the platform are fire with piracy. And then lets not even go into devs who still think a 30 FPS lock on PC is acceptable, when the rifts wants 90. Especially in an era where AAA game production is the most expensive it's ever been, and game devs are cutting corners to cut costs, and games can sell millions of copies and still be called disappointing sales-wise. Will companies want to sink money into developing Rift support? I got my doubts.
I find the price for the device itself reasonable, considering what it is. its dual screens have higher resolutions than most 1080p tvs. Add all the other stuff it needs to do, 600$ is reasonable a price. Consider how much a smartphone costs without contracts, and it's got only one screen.
That said the Rift is a cool device, I do hope that success or failure it proves a stepping stone to better things for media and VR.

Anyone else notice this is the same price the PS 3 used to go for when it first debuted? "$599 U.S. dollars."
Personally, I'd prefer if the 'net was a little friendlier, but you know the GIFT...I dunno, adjusting for inflation, $599 today is equivalent to $516.71 in 2006 (when the PS 3 was released)...so, slightly(?) better I guess.
Insert witty 'n clever quip here. Now they just need to remake Steel Battalion and its huge-ass controller to bundle with it.
Aside from the seasickness feeling it's nothing really unexpected.

I can't believe this thread has languished for so long, but let me bring up some important things since March 2017 is proving to be a really important month for the Rift:
-The Rift and Touch controllers had their prices cut by $100 each, and extra camera sensors are now $20 cheaper. Kind of a kick in the 'nads to people like myself who pre-ordered Touch at the original $199 and only had them for three months with major tracking issues, but hey, if it gets more people into VR, so be it. Crack is Cheaper when you're looking at a $598 minimum price tag on top of a competent gaming PC.
-About the aforementioned tracking issues, they're fixed as of 1.12. Good riddance, too, because the Fandom Rivalry with HTC Vive trolls being all smug about it was getting pretty obnoxious. VR's a niche as it is, don't need that console wars mentality dividing everyone.
However, opposing-corner camera tracking still has some noticeable downsides. Stepping up to three or even four sensors is a considerable improvement if you're aiming for Vive-style room-scale.
-Robo Recall is now out, free to all Oculus Touch owners, moddable to include new weapons, enemies, and even better movement options, and it is generally the way to feel like a Badass in what amounts to Bulletstorm WITH ROBOTS!!!
No, seriously, if I wanted to sell someone on VR, I'd just fire this game right up and let them have at it.
Bunch of new announcements today:
Oculus Quest 2
Adventure with R2-D2 and C-3PO in Star Wars: Tales from the Galaxy's Edge
Burn heretics as Adepta Sororitas in Warhammer 40000 Battle Sister
Run from dinosaurs in Jurassic World Aftermath
A new Battle Royale Game, Population One
An sci-fi expansion to Pistol Whip, Pistol Whip 2089
A multiplayer mode for Beat Saber
VR versions of Myst and Sniper Elite
So anything catch your eye?

Working on cleaning up List of Shows That Need SummaryI still have Jim Sterling sexually harassing characters while using "privilege goggles" in my head but no desire in making a purchase. VR makes me queasy and many of the game trailers you've shown are reliant on licenses.

This is so that people can discuss the revolutionarynote device in general instead of hijacking a topic catered towards a particular news relating to this device.
