Good stuff, though I've always thought of COC as mostly a Sludge band with the odd Stoner influence. Still, this one at least counts as Stoner Metal.

I've heard more purist doomheads say it's not doom or stoner, I've heard others say it's fluffy and light doom that just barely fits the genre, and others that lump it with Occult rock. I still think it qualifies as stoner.
"No will to break."I'd say they're Stoner, just not REALLY HEAVY Stoner. Stoner's a pretty broad spectrum, after all. Also, I consider the whole "Occult Rock" thing to be just another hair-splitting subgenre describing bands who play a very 70s Hard Rock and sometimes Psychedelic Rock-influenced take on Stoner Metal, not a separate genre... Opinions vary on that, I guess.

Jex Thoth and Witch Mountain are also great.
Monster Magnet's seeming a bit more melodic but that's cool. And damn can they write nice lyrics.
"No will to break."
Hahaha yeah me and my dad are big Magnet fans. You're right about the lyrics too! "I need a fistful of medication just to keep it in my pants, UH HUH HUUUUH".
Wyndorf's many shouts of "Uh huh huh", "HEY" and "WAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAH" are my favourite thing about the band.
Also, loving Jex Thoth! Thanks.
No one can criticize The Magnet in my presence in my presence... No one. Their awesome is beyond mortal criticism...
Also, seconding the Jex Thoth recommendation, pretty sick...

Hmm, wouldn't call it great, but still pretty good stuff.
How about a little Fu Manchu.
The last two are both win, in somewhat different ways, of course. Have some Clutch, as a gesture of gratitude...
Clutch - "The Yeti": Dig those fuzztone leads, and the wah-wah pedal abuse...

Makes me sad I only discovered the genre a year ago. It's everything I love about psychedelic, hard rock, thick crunchy riffs, and absurdist lyrics in long jams.
"No will to break."Yes indeedy. Good music all around...
If at first ya don't succeed, try a bit more, then give up or cheat... ;) -Myself Nothing can stop me now! -Piggy by Nine Inch NailsThese guys started out as post-hardcore, then became just rock... and now the new album has quite a huge stoner influence!
Good band, though IMO there's no such thing as just "Rock" (or just "Alternative" or "Indie", for that matter)- pretty much every band can be classified somewhat more specifically than that...
If at first ya don't succeed, try a bit more, then give up or cheat... ;) -Myself Nothing can stop me now! -Piggy by Nine Inch NailsHa well I guess they were a mix of pop-punk, southern rock and metal, then got a lot more stonery :D
Kinda similar to Clutch then, in career trajectory if not actual sound (Clutch started out as Hardcore Punk / Southern Rock, then went Stoner / Funk Metal / Blues Rock starting on album no. 2)....
If at first ya don't succeed, try a bit more, then give up or cheat... ;) -Myself Nothing can stop me now! -Piggy by Nine Inch NailsI remember the lyricist of Clutch mentioning in an interview that he was a huge Thomas Ligotti fan. Generally that bodes well for me.
I'll hide your name inside a word and paint your eyes with false perception.Ah man, that guy. His work's really hard to actually get, but the short stories I have read are really good. Bleak, but in a genre like cosmic horror that's to be expected, if not embraced.
"No will to break."& : I did not know this, but it's not too surprising. It ups the awesome somewhat for me, though...
Anyone else here like Brimstone Coven, JOY, Earthless or The Sword? Great modern Stoner bands, IMO.

I mean there are traces of psychedelia, but that comes with the territory when you're playing Sabbath-influenced metal, and the rest of the songs on the album don't contain as much of it, if at all. Never really got into them, either way. They're a bit similar to Warning, who are another hyped doom band I'm not a fan of.

For we shall slay evil with logic...Speaking of hyped doom bands, checked out Electric Wizard after being bugged to listen. It's... actually pretty great. Heavy as hell, but it works. Helps their riffs are pretty creative and you can do a lot with the amount of distortion they have going on.
"No will to break."Yeah I gave them a listen the other day and quite enjoyed it.
"Come My Fanatics...." is okay, but I don't ever feel like listening to them. Maybe if I were more of a weed user it would have been different.
For we shall slay evil with logic...I was raised on stoner rock, courtesy of my dad. I'm pretty much at the tip of the iceberg compared to him, however. Has Sasquatch been mentioned yet?
INSIDE OF YOU THERE ARE TWO WOLVES. BOTH OF THEM WANT YOU TO SHOOT ELVIS.Don't think so. Good band, though. And your dad's a bit cooler than mine, apparently (not that mine's completely uncool, he does like Rush, Black Sabbath, Led Zeppelin, The Who, Pink Floyd, The Police and an assload of other stuff I like...)
Electric Wizard are perhaps one of the heaviest bands in existence that can still be called Stoner with some degree of accuracy, though they also count as straight Doom and have some Sludge influence from time to time... Great band, though.

Here's a rather psychedelic offering from COC. They have heavier songs, but this one is just brilliantly trippy.
