I'm a fan of both and well...I don't think it would work very well. The two series are vastly different. Mostly in tone. The Tales of goes for a more light hearted, adventure series while Final Fantasy tries to dark mysterious, with the exception of V which was a bit like a Tales game in tone.
I'm not sure what they would do with the battle system either because the ATB and Tale's fighting game style combat are just as different.
PM box is Closed, Indefinitely Friend Code: 3368-4181-6850Light-hearted? Well, to an extent, I suppose, but the Tales series can get pretty bleak when it wants to. Tales of the Abyss comes to mind.
I have a message from another time...If I'm correct, wasn't Tales of the Abyss one of the least well-received titles in the series?
Either way, now that Final Fantasy XV is using an Action RPG battle system, maybe they could use a fusion of that and classic Tales gameplay for a potential crossover.

I don't know the sales numbers, but everyone seems to love Abyss nowadays. It's one of the series' "classics" that the new ones can't hold a candle to, you little whippersnapper. Why, back in my day—
Anyway, I wouldn't say either of the series is more serious or more light-hearted. I would say though that the Tales series is more character-focused, while the Final Fantasy series is more plot-focused.
Abyss didn't sell too well, but that may have been the double-whammy of Legendia not being great (not awful, just not great) and a complete lack of advertising.
Actually, Legendia is the one that wasn't received well. You may have the two mixed up.

Not Three Laws compliant.Abyss sold well in Japan. The 3DS port didn't, because it didn't have anything other than a few more Mystic artes and cut-ins compared to the original version. But the Japanese in general adore the game.
"If you aren't him, then you apparently got your brain from the same discount retailer, so..." - FighteerI'd imagine before Yuri put his foot up everyone's ass in the popularity polls, it was the most popular Tales game.
I may be exaggerating though, but it did have Jade, so there must have been some good word of mouth.
One Strip! One Strip! They're really not that similar. I don't think a crossover would work very well.
As for the characters who would be playable, I can only pick characters from Final Fantasy because the only experience I've had with Tales is Yuri, Estelle, and Flynn appearing in Project × Zone, who I would expect to appear in a Tales of/ Final Fantasy crossover. So I'll just have to make an assumption list/ wishlist for Final Fantasy heroes.
- Warrior of Light
- Cecil Harvey and Kain Highwind
- Cloud Strife and Tifa (C'mon, were you expecting the Easter Bunny?)
- Squall
- Zidane and Vivi
- Tidus and Yuna
- Lightning (By virtue of being a Creator's Pet)
- Noctis, and any other characters (Mostly to promote the latest title)
If any other hero you want to see added, just say it. Though I think someone else should make a list of Tales Series representatives.
I haven't gotten into either series very much. But the very premise of each series gives me the impression that they are very similar.
So, I was wondering if Namco and Square Enix teamed up to make a crossover game between the two franchises. Have some characters from each game in the franchise team up to fight villains and monsters.
What do you think of the idea? Who would you like to see involved?
