I support the change, even if he did it unilaterally.
Found a Youtube Channel with political stances you want to share? Hop on over to this page and add them.Looks like a whole fanwork lacking permission so not entirely sure we can use the new one anyway, switch it back.

I didn't even notice, but he also put a redlink and non-namespaced links in the caption.
I somewhat prefer the new image, if only because the description makes me think that this is a genre page and thus a multi-character image preferable. That said, a collage would be even better in that case.
"For a successful technology, reality must take precedence over public relations, for Nature cannot be fooled." - Richard FeynmanI think a good collage would work better than anything.
Isn't the giant Madoka at the top of the page a huge spoiler anyway? I'd prefer a collage.
I didn't even recognise her.
I think the switch is good. I don't particularly like the caption, though.

Check out my fanfiction!I support the change.
Um, are we missing the point I made regarding it being a whole work?
Can we find out who the artist is to ask permission?
Yeah, doing a Tineye search shows it probably got taken from Safebooru but is more accurately sourced from an artist on Pixiv. Being totally unacquainted with either, it'll be for someone else to find out how to contact the artist.

We don't explicitly need permission for fanart, though, and if it's from Pixiv, it's most likely someone Japanese, so contacting may be difficult.

Check out my fanfiction!Hm, I'll see what someone more sure about what we're allowed to do with artwork says because I'm not seeing much defining a difference between fanart and original works and if there's a language barrier we can't get over then I'd have figured we'd just default to no permission.
Just thought I'll mention that I can do English/Japanese translation, if the Pixiv artist needs to be contacted.
A genius, a philosopher, an abstract thinkerThanks, but isn't that what Google Translate is for, seriously?
Google Translate for conversations = terrible idea. :P
Regarding the Dark Magician Girl suggestions, I would prefer images with multiple girls, and if we're going with a single character, Sakura (original image) fits better.

A genius, a philosopher, an abstract thinkerHow's this for a collage:
Clockwise, the works are Cardcaptor Sakura, Angel Moxie, Balala the Fairies, and Final Fantasy XI (actually Fantastic Fraulein Mumor)
Good try Will but, unless all images are uniform and have a centralized format then I don't really like using collages here much, especially chop-tile collages.
However an image of multiple characters would probably be best, like Sep said, as this would cover more ground, but I think it should be of a "characters" image so that they are all included in the art.
(I'm not suggesting it just something like it)

I'm with Another Duck on this one; the edited-in pic is just a single panel with much more variety presented in it. Plus, it's cleaner, clearer, more concise, and catchier without having it be too much of a distraction. I also agree that the caption does need a rewrite, if it needs one.
Nice try, but I still like the original change more for the above reason: more variety within the genre.
@Synchronicity: I don't think Madoka is showing any spoilerific context here outside of having an alternate Magical Girl form. Yes, I have seen her show; but the picture itself is very hush-hush about the climatic details that allowed it to happen, which should be okay. I also don't believe the picture steals any of the spectacle away from said form's debut either. She's just here in the picture in comparison to that.
I don't think having to contact the original artist is a major issue either because I believe this to be a case of Fair Use as a means for demonstration (Comment type). Still, if you feel the need to contact the original artist, I'm not stopping any of you.
These two may literally be more bark than bite, but they are no less tenacious than everyone else. You just confirmed what I just said, a variety pic!
Maybe I did, but I like the fact that there are characters from more than one show in the one I'm agreeing with. Your suggestion isn't terrible at all, quite the opposite. It'll make an excellent fall back point if we can't get the other one through consensus. Problem is that I'm not seeing much "magic" as the trope would have people think. It's just a bunch of flying girls clenching onto close-combat weapons for the most part (two swords, a spear from what it looks like to most viewers, and a hammer). Hayate and her Book are the only magical beings of note there.

These two may literally be more bark than bite, but they are no less tenacious than everyone else.Well, like I said, I wasn't suggesting that image at all... Just any single image with multiple characters (preferably ones from different works/genres if possible), that way we wouldn't be forced to resort to some sloppy, cut-and-paste collage made from GIS results.
Like I said, 1.2 was fine the first time.

Hey, I'm just trying to be sensical here too. It's nice that while consensus is pending, we all seem have an idea of what we want this image to be and have essentially agreed upon it; but we also need to keep in mind how well the trope's definition can be readily seen in the subject matter with my previous four C's in mind: Clean, Clear, Concise, and Catchy. So far, I believe 1.2 is winning. However, we all appreciate the effort and input that's being put into this.

On the 15th of January, Erylia Starheart changed the page image, completely unilaterally as far as I can tell.
