Does Not Illustrate: The Maze

The pic for The Maze had been removed because it wasn't displaying, from the known capital glitch. I put it back ("PNG" needed to be in all-cap), but doing so I noticed it wasn't terribly representative. It just look a generic video game forest:

Just browsing around the pictures already on-site, I found this one. (Of course, it might be used somewhere.)

I am somewhat leery on using video game images here - mazes in non-videogame media are almost always significant and we have examples of that on the page as well.

It does seem to be a video game-centric trope, though.

Don't ask me why that is, since mazes are clearly more prevalent than video games are.

[up]I find the maze a little indistinct.

[up][up] Great example, but hard to see the maze. Since this trope is very easy to illustrate, I have a feeling that this well have a crowner.

Ok, made a cropped version for the future crowner.

[1] I think this Maze from Alice in Wonderland is pretty cool.

[up][up], [up] Those are pretty good. This may be too big to resize well.

Hm... all these examples look like they are underground mazes. The trope seems pretty exclusive towards outdoor and hedge mazes. And I agree that it's ridiculous to focus this on video games, since mazes are Older Than Feudalism. Think of the Minotaur's labyrinth. And this should be in more indexes than just Video Game Settings. This should probably go to TRS.

[up] I think it's clear that several of those examples are outdoors by the coloring and sky. However, I agree with you about sending this off to the repair shop.

I'm getting the creeping feeling that we have a big problem. There's a trope called Hedge Maze. Then there's this trope, The Maze. I'm thinking that The Maze ought be more general, and Video Game Maze should be made a separate sub trope. But that's for the TRS right? Yikes!

Added Alice to Hedge Maze. It's pretty much perfect for that page and we generaly avoid having images of subtropes on supertropes.(Assuming Hedge Maze is a subtrope of The Maze)

You can easily have equally good images, but it'd be hard to find a better one.

Why not just find a basic maze puzzle somewhere and just use that? Nice and simple.

[up]The second one is very similar to the hedge maze one. Which is makes it a good image.

I prefer 16.2 over 16.1. 16.1 seems more like a fork in the road from that angle.

[up] You can sort of see two other places where the path branches on the right. (This seems to be the problem with finding a picture of a subterranean maze - it's kind of hard to distinguish from any ordinary passageway.)

Especially if it looks like a series of catacombs or tunnels and not an actual maze. I believe there is a difference.

I'm down with 16.2 as long as it looks good at wiki size.

If its too small I can crop it and resize it.
