The first one works best.
Check out my fanfiction!I like the second one. The single person standing on the rooftop adds a lot, and to me it does a better job of illustrating that The End often is something other than a physical cataclysm.

...if you don’t love you’re dead, and if you do, they’ll kill you for it.Agree, it's more an "After the End/Apocalypse Wow" sort of thing rather than "Earth-Shattering Kaboom, everyone dies".

Here's the second one at 350...too dark/muddied?

I think that looks fine, since the images for After the End and Crapsack World have similar tone and image quality, and noone is complaining about it yet...
That's kinda why I didn't like it. Too much After the End.
Check out my fanfiction!Well, to be fair, After the End does take place after after this trope, so there are bound to be similarities. Probably needs to have more focus on the End Of The World "process", though.
Some other suggestions:
Considering the close relationship between the tropes, I think it's a good idea to highlight the difference. Having images that may be confused for the other won't help the page as much if you start to wonder which trope it is.
Second or fourth are good.
Check out my fanfiction!Motion redacted. Action previously taken.

The pic on Earth-Shattering Kaboom is good as is, but if it doesn't have an Image Links page, go ahead and whip one up if you're feeling up to it.
Here's 8.4 slightly cropped and downsized...I think it's pretty good, although saving it as a PNG might've made it TOO bright. I'll re-do it as a high-KB JPG and see how it looks.
EDIT: Okay, here's the PNG and JPG respectively...I can't tell a difference between them on my laptop, does anyone see enough of a difference to make a difference?

You'd only notice a difference if you stare for a while and carefully compare them.
That said, the right one is totally better.
Check out my fanfiction!Looks good to go for me!

Giving a bulleted reply list:
- Current shows Earth-Shattering Kaboom. Generally, a page pic should not illustrate a subtrope, as it misleads people into adding examples into the supertrope.
- 1.1 is very similar to 2012's page image.
- 1.2 (and also 5) seems like an After the End scenario to me.
- 1.3 is Giant Wall of Watery Doom to me.
- 8.1 seems like a generic giant spider scenario to me - or After the End.
- 8.2 makes me think of Vesuvius and Pompeij first and foremost.
- 8.3 is a low-key Apocalypse How.
- 8.4 is OK. I can't spot a difference between the two versions in 11.
x3 I like the second one as well
True, True...
Adding my vote for the 11.2 version of 8.4 because I agree with most of what Septimus Heap said.
Absent-minded professor and Neverwinter Nights DMx7: Reminds me more of While Rome Burns, due to the girl just standing there taking it in.
please call me "XionKuriyama" or some variation, thanks! | What is the good deed that you can do right now?Clock is set. Crowner?
Certainly.
Nuts...I forgot to set up the crowner on this one. I've added two options; if there's any others in the thread you like, go ahead and add them. I've hit the snooze on the clock.
I think it's safe to go ahead and call this one. The new pic's up, the links are added, and the page is tagged. Caption or no?
"Welcome to the...."
You guys fill in the blank: "beginning of the end", "the end the rest of your lives", "the Jungle", "the land of opportunity", "the future". Whatever.
That sounds like a caption for Crapsack World rather than this trope, though.
Maybe something like "Those searing flames will bring an end to mankind,"

Becky: Who are you? The Mysterious Stranger: An angel. Huck: What's your name? The Mysterious Stranger: Satan.
Crown Description:
Nominations for replacement images:
The current page image shows a planet exploding, which illustrates Earth-Shattering Kaboom rather than this trope. Since this trope is more about an end to civilization rather than the total destruction of the planet, I suppose the scale of the image can be reduced slightly. Several suggestions:
