The new pic looks more like a Wave-Motion Gun than a Death Ray. This trope deals more with small-scale things.
"For a successful technology, reality must take precedence over public relations, for Nature cannot be fooled." - Richard FeynmanThe current is Wave-Motion Gun. It's normally a weapon used from orbit to level planet defences. And everything else in range.

New theme music also a boxThe Tripods are good. The Necron, not so much...too much gun, not enough ray.
Girl Genius time? Girl Genius time. [1]◊ [2]◊ [3]◊
And a retro pic for good measure. [4]◊

Becky: Who are you? The Mysterious Stranger: An angel. Huck: What's your name? The Mysterious Stranger: Satan.
8 is excellent, followed by 7.1.
That was the amazing part. Things just keep going.7.1, unless someone can convince me that 8.1 illustrates this trope more than Wave-Motion Gun.
"For a successful technology, reality must take precedence over public relations, for Nature cannot be fooled." - Richard Feynman^ It's just not. WMG is a giant energy beam, often fired from a large space ship of some kind.

Becky: Who are you? The Mysterious Stranger: An angel. Huck: What's your name? The Mysterious Stranger: Satan.Judging by the latter's description, especially the "capable of blowing away an enemy ship (in the "blow a battleship in half" sense)", it doesn't look too small at all.
"For a successful technology, reality must take precedence over public relations, for Nature cannot be fooled." - Richard FeynmanMy complaint about the GG pics is the same as with the lone Necron.
Here's some examples from the Mars Attacks cards: 1◊, 2◊, 3◊, 4◊
There's overlap with that trope about weapons skeletonizing their targets, but that's a common depiction of the death ray effect so I don't think we need to worry about that.

Are you referring to X-Ray Sparks like what happens when a Dalek kills someone? The picture on Disintegrator Ray looks similar to that.
Image Source. Please update whenever an image is changed.Yeah, I may have been overlapping that in my head. Actually, looking at the trope description for Disintegrator Ray makes me think that its pic would be better here. What I was really trying to find in the first place was a pic of someone being vaporized by a phaser in Star Trek, but that would be a better pic for Disintegrator Ray...if someone could get a clean screencap of Terrell phasering himself in Wrath of Khan or Kruge killing his lackey in Search for Spock, that'd be perfect for that page.

Thread that chose the current image on Disintegrator Ray, for reference.
Rhymes with "Protracted."I vote for 7.1
I think the Girl Genius pics work while the Necrons do not because Death Ray often carries Mad Scientist connotations, which Girl Genius, and especially Gil's Slasher Smile pic, definitely has.
Just showing the gun is only part of the trope; it's pretty much pointless to pic a Death Ray without something dying.
EDIT: Hoooooold up...Eddie put the pic of the tripods on the page almost two weeks ago. Lemme check with him and make sure if he looked at any of the other suggestions or not.

I've sourced that image, at least.
"For a successful technology, reality must take precedence over public relations, for Nature cannot be fooled." - Richard FeynmanHe seems to be content with the pic, so I'm good to put most of the other suggestions in an Image Links page and be done.
Hearing no objections, that's what I've done. Locking up.
Hi,it's me again.
Some time ago this◊ was on the page, should it be changed back,or is the present one enough of an improvement?
