Ugh, back in Detroit, you couldn't have a picture without a dead guy in the background. Freaking photobombers.
"Why does everything have to loop back to YGO?" -Guy who ruined YGO*sets up his computer equipment* Alright, let's watch the fun unfold now, shall we?
Oh yeah, while we're here, I should probably post the rules and stuff...
Besides general RP rules, there are a few things to know for this. Duels are conducted by having a third person using an RNG to determine what cards each player draws. Draws are sent via PM, and whoever is G Ming each duel also keeps track of facedowns.
For duels against NP Cs, I will GM the duels for plot duels, usually to suckerpunch the great and holy Random Number God and hand out perfect draws like candy. Otherwise, I'll GM the plot duels because I'll be the one that knows the NPC deck. For random NP Cs, you guys can GM the duel yourself.
Other than that, the general rule of "Don't be a dick" applies. I'd like to keep swearing to a minimum, too- a curse here and there is fine, but there are better ways to show off how angry, immature, and/or crazy your character is than a Cluster F-Bomb, and they're generally much more fun.
Also, once I have access to a real computer, I'll post the start up, though signups will still be open for quite a while. I'll also get around to setting up the trope page.
Hey look!. Yu-Gi-Oh meets wrasslin'!What do you use to store decks and draw and stuff? A lot of programs let you export decks ao maybe we can each make our own and share them so we don't have to each make like ten decks. I use Lackey myself, but everything is just a CSV file anyway.
I just find an RNG and have it roll up a number between 1 and 40 (or whatever # of cards there are total in the deck), then match it up and do that... but I'm lazy XD
EDIT: and it's up! https://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/posts.php?discussion=13763541710A63764200&page=1#1
EDIT 2: And here's the trope page! https://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Roleplay/YuGiOhDuelAcademySaga

Hey look!. Yu-Gi-Oh meets wrasslin'!Huh. I seem to be the only one not using an Archetype.
This clearly means I'm destined to be the main character.
Okay, I made a couple of deck edits
2 Compulsory Evacuation Device -> 2 Judgement of Thunder
1 Stardust Dragon -> 1 Number 91: Thunder Spark Dragon
In the sidedeck
3 Mind Crush -> 2 Dust Tornado + 1 Stardust Dragon
Anywho, how much does stuff from the shows exist? I wanna make Jimbo a big fan of the Sparrow you see...

Curse the ill fortune that led you to me.Hey, so are our characters and the new Academy's tropes on the tropes page yet?
If not, I could work on that. Well, as soon as I am done cleaning up my house.
I haven't added anything from this RP yet... and it's still pretty sparse on the last two.
Hey look!. Yu-Gi-Oh meets wrasslin'!So, I sign up for this RP with a Gladiator Beast deck, and then the banlist the comes out a month later boosts probably one of the better Glad Beasts up from Limited to Semi-Limted.
Irony!
Yeah, Black Whirlwind too. I totally didn't see this coming!
"Why does everything have to loop back to YGO?" -Guy who ruined YGOObligatory "my char got accepted so here I am in the thread" post.
And thus begins the first duel! Does anyone with a good timezone for Evi and Coro want to gm?
Hey look!. Yu-Gi-Oh meets wrasslin'!Psyga, I'd just like to say I really like your deck. Oh, Krika said he does too.
"Why does everything have to loop back to YGO?" -Guy who ruined YGOYou're welcome.
@SI: I could probably do that thing during the weekend, but I'm busy during the week.
Though I have a suggestion. Can we set up like, an Invisible Castle campaign, PM a randomized and numbered list of cards to each duelist with their deck (plus a copy to the GM, doy), and then whoever's around can just roll numbers using that campaign name? That way there's no way to cheat, anyone can be the roller, and it goes by faster? Plus, since you know the number but not the card, you can quickly tell if it's an already-used card and reroll.
I don't know what Invisible Castle is...

Okay. Sounds good.
Hey look!. Yu-Gi-Oh meets wrasslin'!Yeah, so you just put in the campaign name when you roll, and it gives you a number like this. And then you can look at the history of the campaign, like this.
Okay, I'm just afraid that if anyone could look at rolls, then what about the opposing duelist? They could check what cards their opponent has.

Also, the following is the basic plot of the last two R Ps that is public knowledge. Your characters should have heard more or less most of it, depending on if they pay attention to recent events and such.
Okay, so the first year, the major players were Cyrus Cain, River Finn (Cyrus’s best friend, adopted brother, and bodyguard), Blake O’Grady (Cyrus’s rival and a Mafioso), Scott Harold (budding Duelist), Angela Rath (now Angela Loatheless, a new student who was a late starter), and Barnaby Loatheless (the new, inexperienced History professor).
Now, the two major things happening were: The Cultist Invasion and the staff reshuffle.
First, the Cultist Invasion. A few months in, the Cult of Set invaded Duel Academy. The Cultists worshipped the dark entity Set, who, at the time, inhabited the body of a five-year-old boy. The remaining Cultists practiced a form of Shadow Game that allowed them to transfer a curse that afflicted all of them, along with many others, including Cyrus Cain and Scott Harold. The curse caused particularly bad luck to strike the bearer; subjects with particularly heavy burdens experienced extreme afflictions; Scott Harold’s narcolepsy resulted from the curse, and Cyrus Cain’s extremely traumatic childhood is believed to be mostly in part to his unusually large portion of the curse. When the Cultists’ ship landed, River rushed in and was captured. After many clashes between the islanders and the Cultists, a final assault was launched on the Cultist ship, led by Cyrus and Blake. River escaped and defeated their leader, before entering a Shadow Game with Set himself. He took Set into his own body and shut off the pacemaker his cybernetic implants allowed him, causing heart failure between his extensive use of the Cyberdark cards and the bulk of his absorbed curse. When he died, Set and the curse died with him. Currently, there is a monument to him in the courtyard of the Grand Hall. Scott Harold and Blake O’Grady also played major parts in the final assault on the Cultists.
Next, the staff reshuffle. Shortly after River’s death, several things came to light; Barnaby Loatheless was, without a doubt, worthy of being a Dorm Head of Duel Academy, and was officially granted a permanent position as such. The then-headmaster, Lloyd P. Asplud, was entirely unfit for his position as headmaster and ambassador, and was stripped of both titles and banished from the island. Cyrus Cain promptly took up the mantle of Headmaster, as was his right as head of state. Angela Rath was lost and had no future, and a serious liability as she had apparently become romantically involved with Professor Loatheless. Cyrus, in his first move as headmaster, granted her a position as the professor’s teaching assistant and a place to stay on the island. The old Obelisk Male Dorm Head was among the Cultists and had perished, presumably at the hands of either O’Grady or Finn; his body was never recovered, but his position was filled by Professor Armstrong, whose position was filled with Professor Saturday, who had been called to the island as a contingency for Professor Loatheless. Finally, a young boy who had been a captive of the Cultists and showed signs of extreme abuse was given to Loatheless and Rath to raise; it appears his mother died in childbirth, and his father led the Cult and had died when their ship sank.
Over the next year and a half, there was little news of the island; Cyrus sent home all students after the invasion, and received no inbound ships or flights except Jaden Yuki and crew, who rarely interacted with him. The staff were all extremely tight-lipped about the events of the year; however, it has been theorizes and rumored that Headmaster Cain attempted suicide at least once, and was found by Nurse Flannigan multiple times in a delirious, inebriated fashion. The young boy did begin to learn, however, and took the name “River”, not knowing the full meaning of the name.
Then, the next year, the doors of Duel Academy were opened again. This year, the major events are as follows: The Deadroot Rampage and the Origins Tournament events. The big names this year were Cain, of course, and his adoptive sibling Raito “Rai-chan” Cain, who boasted similar cybernetics to River Finn. The rest of the staff was similarly involved. Among the students were Scott Harold, Jerry Parker (Scrounge), Giery Talon (Nick the Swing, fell to myself after he left), Tsuki Sazarame (Inquitus), Ryu Al-Kajima (des), Anna O’Grady (darksidevoid, and the aforementioned Blake’s younger sister), Michael Lane (tachikaze), Sean Abue (Evi), and Jonathan “Johnny” Watcher (NPC). Milton Harold was also heavily involved (NPC and Scott’s cousin.)
First, the Deadroot Rampage: Professor Loatheless apparently came under the influence of the Wicked Deadroot, and the Wicked God exerted massive power to take complete control over his host. As the patron of destruction, Deadroot quickly began to search for weak Duel Spirits to feed upon, of which there were plenty after the Curse of Set was lifted and no longer drove Spirits from the island. However, he was soon discovered by Angela Rath, who was able to easily contain, defeat, and seal the evil spirit. Professor Loatheless was freed from Deadroot entirely, and it is rumored that Deadroot was sealed beneath the island.
Next, the Origins Tournament events: in an attempt to show that Duel Academy was still home to the best of the best, Cyrus organized a showing to be held at the Origins Tournament in Japan. As you know, the OT is one of the biggest events outside the World Championship, and four students were going to compete in a total of four exhibition duels between rounds. The four students that won the honor were Tsuki Sazarame, Anna O’Grady, Michael Lane, and Scott Harold. They were to be chaperoned by Professor Barnaby Loatheless. They arrived in Japan without incident.
However, at the same time, Giery Talon and Sean Abue forged an alliance to right what they saw as a grave wrong, when lower ranked students than them won entry into the tournament. However, Sean appeared to have later allied instead with Al-Kajima and Parker to form what later became known as The Pack. Regardless, Milton Harold secured passage for The Pack to Japan, while Talon flew separately by his own wealth.
As all the students arrived in Japan, there were reports of strange sounds and widespread reports of, basically, the heebie-jeebies on a massive scale. It is widely believed that somehow, Shadow Games were conducted between students beneath the tournament stadium. After all the commotion ended, Milton Harold stole the firearm Professor Loatheless had and shot Anna O’Grady, before fleeing back to Duel Academy. Anna secured transportation, presumably from her brother, and gave chase to Harold with the other students.
At this time, all electronics failed on the island for a time; records show a power outage. What is known widely is that Milton Harold ended up dead of unknown causes. There are many reports that sound consistent with Shadow Games, but on an impossible scale.
The next eight years have little to note. Barnaby proposed to Angela soon into their third year on the island, and she accepted. Young River showed no signs of possession, and all three Loathelesses were thoroughly screened by many independent entities for signs of possession; none were found. Nurse Flannigan became Doctor Flannigan after completing her studies entirely, and stayed as the school physician. Cyrus became much more psychologically healthy. The school prospered. And, most importantly for the world at large, the cards sealed underneath Duel Academy- which supposedly include two Wicked Gods, all three Sacred Beasts, various cards housing individual evil spirits such as Giery Talon’s Darklord Asmodeus, and rumors of pieces of Exodia, Meklords, and Malefic cards; all show no signs of coming loose any time soon.
The above isn't quite exhaustive. There are certain events I omitted because they wouldn't have left the island, and the truth of what happened after Milton shot Anna is far more complicated and known only to less than twenty people, all of whom have never spoken of it. Hopefully, though, most of this won't come up... but it's nice to have background, no?
