Uh, why DIDN'T you put this in the existing thread?
Same as usual.... Wing it.Well a Mod had to open this, so that means somebody's approved.
Anyways, on to the topic... what this new attempt probably means is that somebody's heavily lobbying the group who keep reviving it, but you'd think even the backers would've gotten the message by now.
I'm tempted to say the typical "ITS TEH BIG BAD EVIL CORPORATE INTERESTS!!!11", but for some reason I'm getting the vibe that this issue is continuing for some other reason.
This is the old thread. I do not know if that should be continued or if we should go with this.
Albeit, this seems to be specifically about SOPA, not just Copyrights and such.
I can sorta agree about this thread's creation. I mean, we need more focus on the idiocy behind this bill.
Same as usual.... Wing it.It will subside with time. All new technologies have this. People flipped out over the VCR.
My Tumblr. Currently liveblogging Haruhi Suzumiya and revisiting Danganronpa V3.Hell, it was worse with the VCR, as some company or other sued to just try to get it (actually think they were suing against Betamax) outlawed altogether or something. To my knowledge, no-one sued for the suspension of the internet altogether.
I think even the super-rich recording artists who act like five-year-olds over being slightly less super-rich due to piracy might have standards against that. Or at least the ones who care.
And I heard some artists don't get anything from digital purchase, because their publishers made it count as "advertising" on their contracts. I've got nothing official about that however, so of course this should be taken with a pinch of grains of salt.

"And as long as a sack of shit is not a good thing to be, chivalry will never die."Anything is possible at this point. And it's not unheard of that the red tape bars any money from reaching the ones who actually did the work. I've heard that in Japan, Lantis treats their artists exactly that.
Anyhow, I think this thread is better named as SOPA Revengeance
Same as usual.... Wing it.Reblogged this on my Tumblr, a lot of links to follow up on and fight this stuff.
Hell Hasn't Earned My TearsI've heard that's also a reason artists like to do Anime Theme Songs — they actually get paid.
Keep Rolling Oneh, the beauty of senate obstructionism would likely stop the TPP. At least, i would certainly hope so.
I seriously doubt that this will get passed. You remember last time when The Other Wiki blacked out their site in protest? That got people's attention. I'm sure that politicians care more about the common good and happiness rather than money from 1%er recording artists...oh wait...
Given the rate of revolving-door jobs for politicians leaving office, expect them to have at least ten cushy jobs lined up with the people that lobbied them.

But none that are as cushy as their spot as a politic.
Actually, there are lots of post-political jobs as lobbyists or executives they can pick up that probably pay more and remove the worry of getting voted out next term.
Share it so that people can get into this conversation, 'cause we're not the only ones who think like this.Okay I'm gonna state some facts. So let me start by saying. I Fricking Hate SOPA!!! Now that I've established that I'm not a straw man let begin with the facts.
- The whole bill is not getting revived (even the Government isn't that stupid) Only the part abut making steaming cover and copyrighed videos a felony (So far. the bill might go From Bad to Worse Here).
- The proposal has been voted down twice now (I'm not sure if the ACTA defeat counts or not).
- Even if the bill would get passed. How will it be enforced? We have Closets with more space than our prisons, and unless the police absolutely think New Media Are Evil, there is no way that they would arrest someone just for streaming a video.
- The white house petition has around 13% of the signature needed last I checked.
tl;Dr It's very unlikely that the bill will be enforced, but that dosen't men that it will have negative impact. It might be a first step towards the Police States of America. Also sites like Youtube would ether move overseas or shutdown in response.

Who's bright idea is it to treat people who upload a video of a baby dancing to a barely audible song in the same regards as murderers and terrorists?

"I say to you that the VCR is to the American film producer and the American public as the Boston strangler is to the woman home alone."

Welp, there goes my faith in humanity.
Link. Here We Go Again!.
It's just baffling to me that some people are just so determined to see this borderline first-amendment-violating piece of legislation go through. Absolutely everybody else in the entire country, besides maybe the super-rich recording artists who act like five-year-olds over being slightly less super-rich due to piracy, thinks this is a horrible idea.
