Because real people do typically swear and such. And if you drop the F-bomb, that's an M-rated.
Nous restons ici.Because some stories that fit the original work thematically fall naturally under an M-rating. Especially for works that have a more adult audience.
However, most characters do not. Adding swearing to such characters breaks the "voice" they have in the original work.

Because sex!
At the risk of getting banned, basically what she said
You can be banned just because of saying you like sex?
That is entirely dependent on the work in question. It's also frequently untrue. There are a lot of characters out there that could, or even should swear, but do not. The fact they don't has nothing to do with their unique voice and everything to do with the work in question's rating. (Most cop series, for example, would have the characters be substantially unaltered if they dropped a swear on occasion.)
Nous restons ici.I'm not sure if you can or not, but after the huge crackdown on hentai last year (which given the background of the incident, was actually somewhat justified), I'm not taking any chances talking about M-rated things outside The Nunnery.

I agree with the bile fascination. Sometimes it's so wrong...but I have to keep reading...
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3u8p-tnJWGoBecause sometimes sex can be added well to a fan-fic, as long as the author can both A: Write a good sex scene and B: Know enough to keep the whole thing from going lemony. A good love scene, exercised at the prime cathartic moment, is a powerful thing indeed.
I'm used to reading lemons...although, if the mood is right...
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3u8p-tnJWGoBecause in my experience, M fics have better action scenes, and the lessened content restrictions allow for a more thorough exploration of themes that would otherwise be glossed over, ignored, or otherwise danced around in a fic with a lower rating.
This isn't universal, and good god are there some badass T fics, but IMO the M rating has slightly better odds than one in ten.
Most of what they said- although I think the chances of finding a good one are lower than that.
Also sex (*blushes*)
I'm a little sick.
I don't know if it's just "M-rated" fan fiction, but putting a darker spin on things can some times be very entertaining. However, shameless smut and violence without any semblance of plot is disgraceful.
Akira Toriyama (April 5 1955 - March 1, 2024).In theory, because mature subjects can be discussed and Fridge Horror can reach its full potential. However, it's actually Bile Fascination.
RISEYou know, I always wondered how to determine whether a fic merits a Mature Adults rating rather than a Mature rating.
Fiat iustitia, et pereat mundus.MA is full frontal, M is violence.
Nous restons ici.I usually find myself staying away from the M rating either because nearly all M rated fics I encounter have their plots revolve around sex. Otherwise, they tend to try to be too edgy when it turns out being gloomy for no reason besides just for the sake of it. I have read some good M rated fics, I can't deny that, but for the most part, they tend to lack unless done right.
I've only really written one fanfic... but you can find it here http://www.fanfiction.net/s/8476612/1/After-the-Fall... That seems quite oversimplifying.
Fiat iustitia, et pereat mundus. You ask a short question, you get a short answer. However, that is actually a decent rule of thumb on the issue in North America.
Nous restons ici.Does that standard apply to literature (like most fanfiction)?

Fiat iustitia, et pereat mundus.Literature is not actually, and has never been to my knowledge, subject to a ratings system in the United States. The fact that many fanfiction sites do so is actually deeply outside the norm, particularly since it's usually expected that books targeted at a particular age group are permitted more leeway than anything involving pictures or moving pictures.

Nous restons ici. Here's the thing about sex scenes.
On paper, there are many fine intricacies that can develop a character. Subtle differences in the way they do things, from how they fight, to how they talk, to how they shag, can speak volumes for their character. A well-written sex scene can contribute to the characters of both participants in unique ways.
In practice, most sex scenes aren't well written. Most sex scenes consist of, "And then they have lots of sex. Writing sex is awesome!" More often than not, it's just gratuitous. This is especially true of fan fiction, where it's frequently not only gratuitous, but out-of-character as well. "This nebbish bookworm who faints whenever men talk to her is a BDSM DOMINATRIX in bed because...I like dominatrixes. They're hot."
Or, "He's a sensitive guy who cries because it's his first time." "...we're talking about Vegeta?!" "Shut up, I like sensitive guys."

My Tumblr. Currently liveblogging Haruhi Suzumiya and revisiting Danganronpa V3.Yeah, but that's a general Sturgeon's Law thing.
I do it out because of me being curious. We all do it, don't judge me!
