The road goes ever on. -TolkienOne does not simply make this meme Cyberpunk, my friend.
Sorry. I had to.

Hm. I take it you've read the Silmarillion? There's at least an element of genetic manipulation in the creation of orcs and trolls from elves and Ents, respectively. Although, correct me if I'm wrong, these ideas hadn't yet entered the SF mainstream when Tolkien wrote his works, no?
Dopants: He meant what he said and he said what he meant, a Ninety is faithful 100%.Wrong forum, I think.
Project progress: The Adroan (102k words), The Pigeon Witch, (40k). Done but in need of reworking: Yume Hime, (50k)Yeah, and think how awesome a cyberpunk/post-apocalyptic LOTR would be!

The road goes ever on. -TolkienProblem with that kind of thing is, why not nuke Mordor?
Dopants: He meant what he said and he said what he meant, a Ninety is faithful 100%.Because nuclear holocaust and massive damage to the rest of the world was a real life concern, and would be in science fiction as well.
Who says that Sauron is vulnerable to nukes?
I was thinking, "because Sauron would nuke our heroes. Prolonged war." Just hope I don't make my Aragorn expy too angsty. His name is actually Aneirin Einarsson (has a similar meaning to Aragorn and three of the same letters as Aragorn's other name Elessar) and in his backstory, his mother married the half-elven lord.

The road goes ever on. -TolkienThing is, if Sauron had nukes he would use them, regardless.
He's evil, after all.

Yeah, in that case it would be acceptable...only it mightn't work.
The road goes ever on. -TolkienHow do the Valar factor in?
Dopants: He meant what he said and he said what he meant, a Ninety is faithful 100%.Maybe as Maybe Magic, Maybe Mundane helper figures occasionally?
The road goes ever on. -TolkienMaybe the Ring could be the activation key for Sauron's nukes.
"Steel wins battles. Gold wins wars."
You clever thing you.
@Jimmy: That reminds me of a game I got to play when I went to school camp involving orienteering and destroying a nuclear reactor.

The road goes ever on. -TolkienOrienteering is vital when destroying a nuclear reactor. Without it you won't even know where the reactor is.
"Steel wins battles. Gold wins wars."LOL. We had to do it in teams.

http://denverskeptics.wordpress.com/2009/04/18/lotr-as-science-fiction/ The possible ideas from this one blog post are endless, IMO. The consequences and reasons for creating elves, hobbits, orcs and dwarves (I could see creating those for industrial purposes, but why would Elves be created?) What are everyone thoughts on this interpretation?
