I think there was no great harm done because both pictures were deemed Just a Face with a Caption, so I think the first one was not picked by consensus either. I take it that it's only forbidden to change an approved image that was chosen here in image pickin'. If nothing else, it started this discussion.
My exact thought. I wouldn't have started the discussion if I hadn't noticed a change, and we wouldn't be taking about HIM.
Image Source. Please update whenever an image is changed.Nothing done that can't be worked out. GIS for 15 didn't turn up anything that was better quality that I can see, so I'm good with 20.
I found a good image of HIM at Deviant Art through Googling. However, I'm not very familiar with the site and the rules. Only I noticed some people don't like it when the art is used elsewhere. I cannot comment and ask the person as I don't have an account there and don't plan to start one.
This is the picture, btw. Link◊ If anyone has an account there or if you think it's worth the trouble...
If nothing comes of it, I think I like the other picture (HIM sitting, red background) well enough to give it my vote.
The first picture with the creepy smile was better, but the lines are really not neat, and it didn't look good when I tried to resize it either — I didn't think it was good enough to be uploaded.
We need permission from the artist, but I doubt s/he would say no. I'm sure Willbur could ask.
Just for comparison (both are at 300):
Much better

Image Source. Please update whenever an image is changed.I think it can be a little smaller. It's a very simple drawing style, and I think it kind of looks bloated that large.
Check out my fanfiction! We don't need permission anymore per the latest version of About Images And Copyright, but it's always a good idea.

Yeah that fits the bill more indeed.
250?
Image Source. Please update whenever an image is changed.I think even 200 might work, though 250 isn't bad.
Check out my fanfiction!200 would work fine.
200

Don't you mean fabulous~, Willbyr?
*ahem* Latest version is good image, good quality, and good size.
That was the amazing part. Things just keep going.Last version is beautiful. Gets my vote.
...if you don’t love you’re dead, and if you do, they’ll kill you for it.I hate being negative on this, but the fan art image is giving me an Uncanny Valley effect for the show's art style. It's almost, but not quite, the style of Gendy Tartakovsky. And that's just making it feel wrong and slightly creepy for the wrong reasons, even when scaled down it's noticeable.
If we're using fan art, there's quite a lot that does actually use their own style rather than nearly copying the show's, like this one.
I think #38 is great.
I don't actually think #42 looks much like a villain. A little, due to design, but more like someone who isn't a villain anymore.

Check out my fanfiction!I like #38 a lot. Though I'm not extremely familiar with the show so I don't know how it appears to true fans. :-)
I think there are enough differences between the fan art and the original style to make it not wholly creepy. The biggest differences that I see are the belt buckle and the thickness of his chest, though there's also the calves and ears (and the blush).
Suffice it to say, I'm on the 200 version of fan art HIM.
I really like the style of 42.
to the 200 version.
Any chance of getting a clear shot from this YouTube video?
We're not going to get a clear image from that. Let's just stick with what we have, which is certainly good enough.

Image Source. Please update whenever an image is changed.I vote for #38. You can clearly see his pencil mustache and goatee in that one which show he's a villain, as well as the frilly ruffles to point out the "sissy" side. In my opinion it's clearly a better picture than the first two.

I admit that Griffith might not be the "poster boy" of this trope. I would say that HIM personifies this trope perfectly... and I apologize for my behaviour.
