Game of Thrones Fanfiction Thread!

Apparently GRRM dislikes fanfiction so FF.net used to barely have any. With the TV show, there was an inevitable explosion.

Anyone got any great fics to recommend? Any ship, any character.

I'm a huge San San shipper (not always in a romantic sense) but I'm super picky about their characterizations. For that reason, Into the Wood is my favorite San San fic. It's not actually romantic, but more like a road trip co-written by GRRM and Angela Carter.

We haven't even finished Season 3 yet, but it's worth mentioning the obligatory Continuation Fic The North Remembers. It's already a given that key events in it that feature won't happen in the TV show due to characters getting the chopping block (ie Jeyne Westerling and Willas Tyrell), but damn it's such an incredibly good conclusion to the saga.

I FINALLY finished reading it. It's quite an undertaking! Sometimes it feels a wee bit predictable, but I think that's more because I've spent too long on fansite forums .

I wanted to throw a couple more in. If it's not obvious, one of my favorite characters is Sansa.

Vows / Pride and Pack series. Sansa marries Tywin instead of Tyrion. I know it sounds squicky but it actually works incredibly well. I was hooked when Tywin realizes how banged up Sansa is from Joff's Kingsguard. As it's an insult by proxy, he returns to the feast hall with a regiment of Lannister guards. Badassery ensues. The strongest point is the characterizations; it's fascinating to see Sansa develop her political skills without the pervy tutelage of Littlefinger.

The Stag and the Dragon. A great one-shot. Stannis allows King's Landing to fall, but Daenerys captures his queen and heirs. If the thought of Dany becoming a mad queen doesn't bother you, it's awesome.

And Cover Me With the Night. A more fitting title would be "burn ALL the ships!" but it's a cool read with 6 A Us. Essentially, Sansa's life is a song, but not the one she imagines.

Question — I'm really new to editing wikis and whatnot. There are two separate fanfic rec pages for ASOIAF and Game of Thrones. Since a lot of them overlap or could fit in either universe, should the pages have a link to the other one?

There is a crossover with Touhou that a pal of mine is writing named Game of Touhou, in which the Touhou characters are brought to the Game of Thrones universe, in the sense, they're born in there. Actually the events happen in a region neighbor to Westeros named Noros. The fic itself is well-written and I'm posting here to make some marketing.

I'm undertaking a HUGE-ASS Game Of Thrones AU where Cat follows through on her promise to the Seven that she'll love Jon Snow, and I'm basically going to prod at all the religious/honorable facets of breaking vows in general, as opposed to the less-intelligent people who say she's just angsting about "OMG I'M A BAD MOTHER." Then there's my small cast of OCs from Essos who fuck with stereotypes (mostly by being constantly mistaken for Dornish/Rhoynish, and not being OMG EXOTICCCCCC), help Sansa not get quite as broken, and one of them ends up being a head of the dragon due to a self-fulfilling prophecy.

Then I'm just fleshing out all the Celtic-influenced lore of Westeros. Once I'm done making sure that the plot divergence/mashing all makes sense, that is.

I'm trying to figure out how to do a Pacific Rim/Game of Thrones crossover. So far all that I've come up with is that the Targaryens had Kaiju instead of Dragons, the Jaegers were built for King Robert's rebellion, and I picked out a few of the Jaeger pilot teams.

Rob and Ned- Duh.

Lyanna and Brandon- Duh.

Robb and Jon- Only in practice.

Renly and Loras- Double duh.

Bronn and Tyrion- Take command of "The Roaring Sun" at the Battle of King's Landing when Joffrey hides and The Hound deserts everyone. "And for once, Tyrion Lannister was taller than any king."

Tywin and Keven

S'about it so faaaaar. >.>

So will it be Dany or the Walkers to be the one who brings destruction and ruin to this world?

Also...Westeros Jaegers. Hot damn this needs to happen. So would the Ned/Robert Jaeger be Winter Fury? Renly/Loras...Flowering Stag? Highgarden Storm? Tywin/Keven - Castamere Tempest? And maybe Jaime drifts with Cersei, but is also compatible with Brienne? While Arya learns to solo-pilot?

The only Solo Pilot would be Gregor Clegane. Both because he is literally too large for anyone else to fit in the cockpit, and because he is too deranged to drift with anyone.

Jaime...I don't know about him drifting with Cersei, because there'd be no way they could find out. 'Cause the Jaegers would be the weapons of the rebellion, and Jaime would be of the Kingsguard. After the rebellion, the Kingsguard all share one Jaeger (yes, like a Megazord). I like the idea of Jaime and Cersei drifting, and I definitely thought about it. But I don't know how I'd make it work in the context.

Also, those names are really good. Heh heh. Flowering Stag. Heh heh.

Three words: Kingsguard. Warging. Kaiju.

Ooh, ooh, and instead of unleashing Wildfire on King's Landing, the Mad King was going to open the rift wide enough to let out ALL THE KAIJU.

Oh, and King Robert had a new Jaeger made to be piloted by The King and his Hand called "The King's Justice." I dunno, I feel like I'm terrible with names. >.>

Without a shadow of doubt, Sean Bean Saves Westeros deserves a mention.

You see... Game of Thrones just wrapped up filming the end of Season One. Sean Bean hung around the set so he could visit with his buddies. Then... he's given this armor, and then he's suddenly transported into Westeros... BOOK Westeros... the same day poor Ned lost his head.

Sean Bean takes Lord Ned's place.

It is the most wonderfully awesome and hilarious Real-Person Fic / Crossover I've ever read. It deserves your immediate reading.

So I got an idea for a fanfic, based on a dream that I had the other day.

It takes place at Season 3 ep 9. The key difference is that Arya and the Hound arrives at the wedding several hours earlier. So Arya enjoys reunion with Catelyn and Robb, but they want to have the Hound dead. Then they change their minds, saying that no weddings should involve bloodshed so that can be waited after the ceremony.

It's good that they decided to put off dealing with the Hound, because when drinking outside with Stark bannermen, the Hound recognizes the Rain of Castemere playing inside the Hall and subsequently the betrayal. He screamsrallies the Stark bannermen and puts up a fight.

Then after remembering that Arya is still inside the hall, with the help of few surviving bannermen, the Hound storms into the Hall and grabs Arya. Catelyn and Arya both screams at him to save Robb as well, so (VERY begrudgingly) he grabs Robb too and runs out of the place, taking a couple of crossbow bolts.

Once outside, ultimately the Starks bannermen are being overtaken. Then, the remainder of them sacrifice their lives so that Robb and Arya can escape. Oh, and Arya releases Grey Wind, which evens the odds slightly bit.

So, basically the crew now consists of Arya, the Hound, Robb, and Grey Wind. I'm even considering having Brienne and Podrick join the crew. It would be like, the most badass crew the Westeros have ever seen. And Podrick.

The problem here is that once the four of them are on the run, I'm not quite sure where I can go with this. Anybody got any ideas?

Join Beric Dondarrion and raise hell?

They could flee north to White Harbor to seek shelter with Wyman Manderly, who is incredibly loyal to the Starks and his son died at the Red Wedding, who could provide them a ship to flee to Essos, Braavos, or join Stannis with the few men he has left, and if you go by book canon he also knows where Rickon is.

I know that trying to do Robert's Rebellion (or an AU version of it) is fairly common, but I was wondering what other historical events from Westeros would/have made/make good fanfics. Has anyone here, for instance, ever come across, or tried to write, a War of the Ninepenny Kings fic? It strikes me as a fairly obvious one.

I mentioned it like a month ago in the Star Wars fanfic thread, might as well mention it here, too. I kinda have a bit of an idea to do a Star A So Ia F AU fic.

Like, the story starts with Qui-Gon Jinn the Jedi Knight and his squire Obi-Wan Kenobi going to High Garden to negotiate a peace summit because of a trade blockade. Later on they have to go to the free cities where they meet the young Anakin Sand, a prodigy chariot racer. When they take him to Kings Landing to become a Jedi Knight he gets to name his own house and chooses the title Skywalker. Also, R 2 D 2 is a dwarf.

I admit that I'm not too big on crossovers, so I'm probably not the guy you want to critique this project.

This is technically fanfiction for the game, but it's based on the show so...

Well I found a fanfic where Ned was demonized for “not respecting women enough.” So whatever you write, it will probably be better than that.
