Lets hope Flanderization doesn't kick in.

That tends to happen with characters like Hajime.

I like how, somehow, Hajime's mom was chill with her moving out without real reason. It's a small detail that might be missed given Hajime's antics this episode.

I think she probably has a different opinion about what weird is. I mean, she did raise Hajime.

Also, Hajime apparently told her mom about what's going on. And her mom seems fine.

So....no more Rubics cubes? Does that count as a Wham Episode?

Purple Emo boy as the voice of reason....

I'm hoping they end up cooperating with the MESS against...whatever the joker lady is. She's probably like JJ's ex-wife or something at this rate

Felt like a Take That! to the fanbase: "Well, compared to our Gatchaman predecessors, we're pathetic enough."[lol]

Interesting to see that humans are just a bunch of rocks or ants at best to Mess-chan, well this new information sent Pai Pai to "What I'm fighting for!!!" mode [lol],

Well next episode finally we will see another Gatchaman against the creepy lady and also those crowds?. Real nice episode.

Episode 3. In which Hajime gets a Companion Cube.

Okay, she basically befriended it last episode, but still. And I'm not sure I buy the treating people as rocks bit. About the same level as "Haruhi Suzumiya is God" theory. But using the same parable, I think it's more about the Rubiks not really seeing humans as living, rather than something as lowly as ants or rocks. Maybe boulders would be a better word?

So, a single power-outage resulted in all milk in the whole country being spoilt to the point of causing sickness and/or death? That kind of feels like drinking milk a day over the expiration date and falling getting ill because of it. Also, put a note on the machines saying the milk is bad. Far easier and faster. Rather than disconnecting the machine, which may or may not have refrigeration so that it gets even worse...

Seems like the people in school are used to Hajime.

I did like the small comment she made about not relying entirely on the Internet, because batteries. Head in clouds, feet on ground. She's really tall.

Social media superheroics...I can dig it.

@kiukiuclk: The red haired lady is this series's version of Berg Katze, the original series villain. Also, that Take That! was to themselves, not the fanbase.

I was confused/intrigued by the "Compared to our Gatchaman predecessors" line. I've never seen the original show, but is this a sequel or flat out reboot?

Rui's outfits are cute.

It's a comment to the fact that this isn't Pai's first team, and the little panda guy has already done this before in other worlds.

At this point, I'm just waiting for GALAX's control to be subverted or yoinked from Rui's hands.

So Galactor is International Rescue as subsidised by Facebook in this version? Interesting take, particularly given that the premise implies a certain degree of New Media Are Evil.

I mean, I know we've got some sinister hints about GALAX, and our murderous shapeshifting buddy Berg is traditionally Leader X's Number Two, but Rui and his company have been presented remarkably sympathetically so far.

What's precedent ever done for us?

Yeah, I never saw the original series either. A cursory look, and the impression I got from the first few episodes was that it was an early Sentai series. Checking that page....yup.

It was mentioned up thread that there was a bunch of They Changed It, Now It Sucks! from the fanbase, although it seems to be mostly from the announcements, I have no idea what the reaction has been to the airing show. They probably knew that would happen, but I like what they did with it. I think using the name actually worked well, as it allowed them to establish the basic framework quickly, rather than introducing a random team and then just tearing it down for the social networking plot that seems to be starting.

In the opening it looks like Berg is trying to seduce Rui (I'm sure it's symbolic and not what actually happens) so I'm thinking he's going to manipulate the boy and hijack GALAX for some nefarious purpose.

So Katse is going around impersonating people to cause Accidents and incidents...which probably get reported on Galax.

I did like the small comment she made about not relying entirely on the Internet, because batteries. Head in clouds, feet on ground. She's really tall.

Indeed. She really has a unique perspective. Characters like her usually have nothing going on in their heads, but she clearly knows what she's doing at all times.

...But I still want to know what the point of Rui dressing like a girl is? It seems to be a disguise thing in-universe, but it feels like they just wanted a random cross-dressing pretty boy.

Whatever the case, I don't hate this, but I've seen only one episode of the original series (where Jun loses her shoe, which is also her costumes boot) so I can only judge it on its own merits and not in comparison to its predecessor.

That would normally be okay, but a sequel needs to be as good as what came before in addition to standing on its own wouldn't you say?

It's a comment to the fact that this isn't Pai's first team, and the little panda guy has already done this before in other worlds.

Although honestly this was already implied by the fact that their seats are numbered in the meeting room. Hajime is the 101st Gatchaman, on this particular team anyway. Basically they have a long history.

In the first episode, didn't they mention Gatchaman as a mysterious thing that there had been sightings of recently, along with ghosts and UFO's. If nothing else, Hajime seemed to have heard of them before becoming one. They seem to be treating the previous series as the actual past.

I never saw the original Gatchaman and I never want to, but this is good. I can't understand why it has relatively "meh" ratings on certain sites. I really like every character except creepy evil redhead.

There are so many factors...the Mess, who apparently just wanted to be friends (the moral is, if it's cute in the broadest sense of the word, it cannot be bad). The creepy, transforming redhead with too many teeth...Galax, whose leader's name is the first three letters of mine...those eyeball things who may be good? And of course the Gatchaman, with JJ and Pai being very mysterious on their own.

Rui's a guy? How could you tell?

Oh, and like the milk would even be bad.

I didn't realize GALAX=Galactor until I read this thread. Ugh.

Then again, I barely saw the original either...just a few episodes from my childhood when it was on Cartoon Network as "G-Force".

When you say male voice, do you mean the Voice actress(obviously female) is using male speech patterns?

Cause that sure sounds like a girl to me.
